I know, I was almost impressed!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/03/2019 16:36

Not sure, I actually trusted him to be able to do it on his own and didn't look over his shoulder. I might sorely regret it. Grin

It was eight or ten minutes ago.

I voted Leave. I like Europe but I despise the way the EU is run. I would still want to Leave. However, I had no idea about the mess that would be made of the process.

I live in the North-East. The North-East has been ignored by this government since 2010. They have not cared what has happened to us. Many people here voted Leave because they are fed up with being ignored and seeing their area left to decay. The old mining villages have never had any regeneration. You can buy houses in many of them for £20,000 upwards. They have high unemployment rates. Our local councils have had their budgets slashed by multi-millions (£80+million in our council over 4 years and another £20million + of cuts coming) whilst those in the south-east have had theirs increased.
Brexit has exposed how pathetic and weak our political system and its leaders really are.

It's now down again, for maintenance.

indistinct · 21/03/2019 16:37

Getting back on track ...
Readers may be interested in the equivalent no deal petition:
petition.parliament.uk/petitions/229963
It's still open even though it's been discussed in parliament and it's still getting support (slower than the revoke petition though).

Langrish · 21/03/2019 16:39

Keep trying ShesaBelter you’ll get there in the end, just sheer volume of traffic.

RomanticFatigue · 21/03/2019 16:40

I despise the way the EU is run

Because Britain is doing such a stirling job of running itself right now!

OverwateredCheeseplant · 21/03/2019 16:40

I keep trying to sign but it keeps crashing.

indistinct · 21/03/2019 16:40

@LuluJakey1
Live in NE as well; ironically what little regeneration funding that made it to badly hit post-mining places like Ashington was from the EU.

indistinct · 21/03/2019 16:41

Pressed submit accidently - take a look at www.northumberland.gov.uk/News/2016/Apr/Northumberland-received-over-108m-in-European-fund.aspx

lonelyplanetmum · 21/03/2019 16:41

Andrea Loathsome has said

"Should it reach 17.4 million respondents then I'm sure there would be a very clear case for taking action," she added.

So that's a concession that if enough people aren't happy action could be taken. So everybody take some action!

SoloD · 21/03/2019 16:41

@indistinct
Thanks will check that out, tax is one of my interests.

I was actually referring to average wages
www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/this-is-the-average-full-time-wage-in-ireland-795670.html
€46k in Ireland compared to £35k in the UK, I have seen figures which put the difference wider

What a shame LuLuJakey1. The North East has been neglected but not by the EU. It has poured millions into the North East.

SoloD · 21/03/2019 16:44

Hi @LuluJakey1

Would be interested to hear more about how you see the problems of how the EU is run?

Regarding the NE, totally agree with you, some issue in a number of regions. But this is more of a UK issue. The EU actually sends grants to help and funds regeneration. The UK government has not committed to replace these funds so your region may well be worse off after Brexit.

Sorry Katerina, cross posted.

Missmarplesknitting · 21/03/2019 16:46

God, how on earth can we self rule? Look at the sh*tshow running the BREXIT process.

I'll sign as soon as the site is back up.

The UK needs to steer this ship around the iceberg.

indistinct · 21/03/2019 16:47

@SoloD - interesting, I suspect all those multinational head offices bring some high quality jobs enabling Irish workers to out-earn their UK (and presumably EU) counterparts substantially.

FriendOrFaux · 21/03/2019 16:50

The comments on both those linked articles are interesting, to say the least. Looks like many people remain unconvinced by the bountiful EU.

OVienna · 21/03/2019 16:55

@lonelyplanet - I'm worried if it goes that high, they'll cry bots.

MockerstheFeManist · 21/03/2019 17:22

Any British Citizen or UK Resident with an email address and a post code can sign.

Even babies.

FishesaPlenty · 21/03/2019 17:25

€46k in Ireland compared to £35k in the UK, I have seen figures which put the difference wider

What difference? And where does the £35k figure come from?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/03/2019 17:25

What post code? Does it have to be a British one?

How about British citizens living abroad?

MockerstheFeManist · 21/03/2019 17:31

If you are an expat then you vote in UK election in the last UK constituency where you lived, where you remain registered to vote.

So that post code.

TheElementsSong · 21/03/2019 17:32

How about British citizens living abroad?

IIRC you have to tick a box saying you are either a UK resident or a UK citizen. So British people living abroad can sign - in fact I think I saw this posted wayyyyy upthread by a Leaver getting their excuses in early (implying that the popularity of the petition was due to the x million emigrant Brits) - I have to say it was a refreshing change from the usual excuses.
