This morning Jeremy Hunt declared that, 'With vision on both sides we can find a way through that has the support of Parliament and also works for the EU'

Of course this is 18th February 2019 and the UK has yet to demostrate they understand the problem, much less have the vision to solve it. And we leave the EU next month.

It needs to be stressed at this point: DON'T FORGET TO FOCUS ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS

Everything else is a tactic to make you close your eyes and miss what is really going on. Everything. Brexit looks increasingly like a hypnotist making their subject do ever increasing acts of ridiculousness on stage. Except I do not know if the public or the politicians are that poor sod. It is the magician who uses tricks of slight of hand to make you look the wrong way, whilst they makes all the big moves out of your vision.

There are so many stories that are coming out to try and make you miss what the government are failing to do. Stay focused. We can't ignore all these stories, but understand whether they are really important to the end game too.

A labour split, a march on the 23rd March, talk of a PV, the Brady amendment, the Malthouse Compromise, Cooper-Boles halting no deal?

No we need more than that.

The time for fantasies are gone. Its time to face reality and be pragmatic. The only thing that matters is the approaching cliff. Which we will go over not on the 29th March but in the next couple of weeks. We might not realise the ground disappearing beneath our feet at first. Our momentum as we go forward will carry for a short while before gravity kicks in.

But we can not defy the laws of physics and suddenly be able to fly because we develop magic superhuman powers of vision.

And no one will come to save us either.

Our national humilation will be total, if we don't acknowledge what is coming and stop.

I certainly won't vote Tory and would have to hold my nose to vote Labour, but the seven can still vote for those other Labour policies which they agree with - of which I imagine were many.

Hasenstein · 18/02/2019 13:56

As confirmed to me recently by a local Tory member (actually closer to UKIP - "I'm a big Brexit man, me") who refers to our black local Conservative MP Sam Gyimah as "Sambo".

Hasenstein · 18/02/2019 13:57

^
That was wrt BCF's comment:

"imo, many Tory politicians & party members are racist, despite the cover of a few black Tory MPs"

I'm disabled and so either fills me with terror if I'm being candidly honest

DW has MS, and relies on me. Neither of us has any love for the Tories, but being in the EU was a leash - albeit a long one.

Once we are out of the EU, that's gone. And I trust Labour no more than I trust Tories.

.................The 'Independent' Group isn’t just an attack on Jeremy's policies For the Many, Not the Few. It's a direct attack on the Labour Party.
Chuka's vision for a coalition with Tories and Lib Dems is not the solution
A radical Labour government is. We'll keep fighting for that.

A radical Labour government?
Hmm

Just in from bollocks central.

{Get a UK EORI number to trade within the EU

UK businesses trading with the EU will need a UK EORI number to continue trading if the UK leaves the EU with no deal.

1:48pm, 18 February 2019: Guidance has been updated to clarify that Northern Ireland businesses should also apply for an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number unless they only trade across the Northern Ireland–Ireland land border.}

So you take it over the border then across to the rest of the EU.
What sort of plan is that?

QueenOfThorns · 18/02/2019 14:10

Ann Coffey’s constituency is next to the one I live in. I’ve been looking at local FB groups this morning, and opinion seems to be mixed as to whether she’s done the right thing in standing up for her principles, or is a traitor to the Labour Party. As she has been a good MP, there’s real concern that this will split the Labour vote and let the Tories in.
Just one Beleaver upset at her opposition to Brexit (in an area that voted to remain!).
I’ve got to admit, it’s a tricky one and I don’t see how it’ll help avoid Brexit Sad

dreichuplands · 18/02/2019 14:10

A centrist coalition is probably doomed to failure as an idea but if you believe something is right and the alternative is very wrong it cannot be a bad idea to try.
Before we left the UK for a while I was asked to stand as a prospective lib dem councillor, I hate drawing public attention to myself and was never going to get more than one man and his dog to vote for me but I did stand because it is important that people are more than just words.

poster Corbyn has always been a Brexiter, since - like the hard right - EU rules restrict a few things he wants to do.

During the ref campaign, many Labour Remainers reported how Corbyn deliberately interfered with their efforts and hindered Remain
His appearances were chosen to be where they were least useful

Then the day after the ref result, he demanded that May invoke A50 immediately

Then he punished Remain MPs who voted against 3-line whips on Brexit, but not Leave MPs - e.g. the recent amendments that failed

Loletta · 18/02/2019 14:14

You also had MP's saying he was 'tirelessly' going up and down the country working for remain, the fact that he wouldnt share a stage with Cameron was absolutely fine with me

poster Only his fans claimed he was "working tirelessly" for Remain
Labour Remainers said that was bollocks - he was interfering with their activities and resources

DGRossetti · 18/02/2019 14:22

Corbyn has always been a Brexiter, since - like the hard right - EU rules restrict a few things he wants to do.

So was Thatcher - although I guess she was smarter ....

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 14:23

That's Remainers not in his fan club

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 14:23

Only his fans claimed

Dont think Angela Eagle was a Corbyn fan, that was a quote from her

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 14:29

DG Thatcher wasn't a Brexiter until the Social Chapter was passed - and until she was ousted by MPs who were mostly pro-EU
Before this, she made many statements about the EU that now would bring cried of "Remoaner traitor" because she saw it - especially the SM - as good for business.

I remember her right from when she became party leader in the mid-70s and then as PM smashing her way to a better deal with her "cement handbag".
However, no advocacy then of leaving.

Brexit only became more than a fringe party issue after her ousting - it became the revenge of the right

prettybird · 18/02/2019 14:29

"4 Senior Cabinet Ministers - Rudd, Gauke, Clarke and Mundell - have been meeting May in Downing Street in an attempt to persuade her to take No Deal off the table". according to Sky News.

2 comments about Fluffy. He is not and has never been a "Senior" Cabinet minister. As Secretary of State for Scotland, he doesn't even get to attend all Cabinet meetings Hmm

And second, he is such an arse-licker that he might threaten (as he has done before) but he won't resign Hmm

I can see Rudd resigning though. Not sure about Gauke and Clarke.

TheElementsSong · 18/02/2019 14:31

Sky Sources say Japanese car manufacturer Honda is preparing to close its Swindon plant with the loss of 3,500 jobs

I just saw that on Twitter mother and was coming to post it - apparently the closure isn’t until 2022, so that will give Leavers the excuse to say “it’s not because of Brexit” Hmm

poster A few misguided people tried to explain away what he did, but that minimising was for the sake of party unity

However, there were also a few articles right after the ref, detailling his sabotage
and the conclusion was that he - in particular his staff - did all they could to hinder work by genuine Labour Remainers

If you have any doubts, go back to what he was saying many years ago, before he dreamed of becoming leader.
There was a clip going round a few days ago of him savaging the whole idea of the EU as a bosses' club

He has always been a fervent Brexiter - he just had to hide it when he became leader of a mostly Remain party,
with his young supporters being among the most fervent Remainers

DGRossetti · 18/02/2019 14:37

DG Thatcher wasn't a Brexiter until the Social Chapter was passed - and until she was ousted by MPs who were mostly pro-EU

She was deeply Eurosceptic for her entire Premiership - and before. Despite that, she realised it was best for Britain (hence campaigning for it). I never thought I would be defending Thatcher - but by and large she rarely allowed her ideology to trump what was best for Britain. The AIDS campaign being another example.

I think part of our generations problem is we spent so long excoriating Thatcher and telling ourselves she was the worst thing in the history of ever, we rather swallowed some Kool-Aid and missed what followed on Sad .
