This morning Jeremy Hunt declared that, 'With vision on both sides we can find a way through that has the support of Parliament and also works for the EU'

Of course this is 18th February 2019 and the UK has yet to demostrate they understand the problem, much less have the vision to solve it. And we leave the EU next month.

It needs to be stressed at this point: DON'T FORGET TO FOCUS ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS

Everything else is a tactic to make you close your eyes and miss what is really going on. Everything. Brexit looks increasingly like a hypnotist making their subject do ever increasing acts of ridiculousness on stage. Except I do not know if the public or the politicians are that poor sod. It is the magician who uses tricks of slight of hand to make you look the wrong way, whilst they makes all the big moves out of your vision.

There are so many stories that are coming out to try and make you miss what the government are failing to do. Stay focused. We can't ignore all these stories, but understand whether they are really important to the end game too.

A labour split, a march on the 23rd March, talk of a PV, the Brady amendment, the Malthouse Compromise, Cooper-Boles halting no deal?

No we need more than that.

The time for fantasies are gone. Its time to face reality and be pragmatic. The only thing that matters is the approaching cliff. Which we will go over not on the 29th March but in the next couple of weeks. We might not realise the ground disappearing beneath our feet at first. Our momentum as we go forward will carry for a short while before gravity kicks in.

But we can not defy the laws of physics and suddenly be able to fly because we develop magic superhuman powers of vision.

And no one will come to save us either.

Our national humilation will be total, if we don't acknowledge what is coming and stop.

They have left the party. In so doing they have lost the ability to change the labour party. Too few, too late to make a difference. I don't blame them ( even admire them if I didn't think they are doing the wrong thing for the right reasons) for speaking out about the problems in the labour party. I just think they are twats for thinking they will get many more MPs follow them. Tribal politics in HoC much more powerful then they think. Remember the sdp?

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 18/02/2019 13:17

PMK

Referring back to the last thread - in my experience Ian Murray is a really good MP. Will be interesting to see if he takes action.

BiglyBadgers · 18/02/2019 13:18

I find it really really hard to believe that Labour is any more anti-semitic and sexist than the Tory party.

It's not. The Tory party is horrendously anti-Semitic and racist.

The problem is that people just don't expect better from the Tories. They're like that racist granddad who says something offensive and people just shrug, roll their eyes and say "but that's grandpa Jo for you."

PestyMachtubernahme · 18/02/2019 13:20

Why are MPs being so noticeably called law makers in the press today?

GeistohneGrenzen · 18/02/2019 13:23

PMK

67chevvyimpala · 18/02/2019 13:23

Completely disagree sos

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 13:24

peregrina If they'd joined the Tory party, I'd agree that would be wildly delusional about sexism there - they didn't because they don't endorse the Tory party either

imo, many Tory politicians & party members are racist, despite the cover of a few black Tory MPs
However, not anti-semitic to any noticeable extent
Labour is the reverse

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 13:27

If I was Corbyn, now would be the time to fully back the PV campaign it would essentially render the 7 useless.

I think its on the thread thats about this that 1 poster hoped the breakaway group would back sex based rights of women and not gender, unlikely as any deviation from the current viewpoint will be cast as intolerance.

I dont see how they can claim to be against the new 'direction' of the LP but still be happy to stand on their current Labour ticket so doesnt seem to be about their 'values' but about making more anti Corbyn noise so it gets a meh off me

If there starts to be a run on Tory MP's joining them then I will start to take notice but if more blairite MP's, and I use that term this time as a descriptor not an insult, join up then in my mind this will just be Chicken Coup 2 - Chukka's Revenge Grin

borntobequiet · 18/02/2019 13:28

Lawmakers is the American usage (or "legislators"). It seems to be creeping in on this side of the pond, which is useful as in my experience many people have no idea that the main business of Parliament is to do with legislation.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 13:28

I agree with bigly that those who vote Tory do so either ignoring - or supoorting - the racism there
So no shock at all when it happens

However, most Tory voters still assume the party is competent and the "Party of Business"
(a lot of people don't analyse at all, just go on media articles and feelz)

So it will be interesting to see how many voters rate that as more important than the nationalism etc and hence how many would abandon them if Brexit crashes the economy

BiglyBadgers · 18/02/2019 13:29

I think when you have conservative MPs flirting with organisations like Turning Point, the Trump supporting student group with a lead figure that said Hitler wouldn't have been so bad if he'd just stayed in Germany, well that suggests a certain amount of anti-Semitism lurking about the place to me.

Grinchly · 18/02/2019 13:30

SosNo the seven are not 'twats' Hmm
I felt angry reading that.
They're acting out of principle. Even if it's too little too late to avoid Brexit catastrophe.
What happened to your positive thinking schtick?
It is at least something positive and hopeful.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 13:33

MPs stand for election both on their record and on their own personalised election literature

Those 7 MPs won't have put e.g. "support anti-semitism, sexist bullying and Brexit" on their leaflets

Corbyn has continued to change the party in ways many people find repulsive
His lack of effective opposition, his incompetence as leader and his pushing Brexit as much as May, were probably the final straws.

Peregrina · 18/02/2019 13:36

I think at a local level a lot of Tories are disillusioned. However, when it comes to a GE they revert to their sheep like voting patterns.

As for being positive - I was encouraged by the young people protesting about climate change. My generation, the baby boomers, have made a mess, so it's time we gave way.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 13:37

Tories plan to crown Boris Johnson PM in exchange for supporting Theresa May's Brexit deal

So they could console themselves by rolling back the welfare state, more privatisations and making profits that way

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tories-plot-crown-boris-johnson-14009295

A Tory leadership contest would take place over the summer with the ERG campaigning for their champion Johnson

Tonsilss · 18/02/2019 13:37

.

OlennasWimple · 18/02/2019 13:39

What is Luciana Berger expected to do? Remain in a party that allows her to be hounded?

What are MPs who think that Berger has been treated appalling supposed to do? Tut at how terrible it is, but continue to be part of an organisation that allows Jewish women to be treated like this?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 13:41

his pushing Brexit

Has he though BCF?

I agree hes done close to fuck all on it, but as for actively pushing for it? I mean Labours 6 rules of brexit havent changed since the beginning, I agreed with the initial fence floatiness because it kept the focus on the Tories but he's definately floated past it being useful IMO

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 13:48

Email from the LP

Our country is in crisis and needs a Labour Government.

Our opponents are the Tories, not each other, and it's disappointing that a small group of MPs have felt unable to continue to work together for the Labour policies that inspired millions at the last election and saw us increase our vote by the largest share since 1945.

Labour won people over on a programme for the many not the few – redistributing wealth and power, taking vital resources into public ownership, investing in every region and nation, and tackling climate change.

The Conservative Government is bungling Brexit, while Labour has set out a credible alternative, keeping all options on the table, including a public vote to stop a disastrous 'no deal' Brexit.

When millions are facing the misery of Universal Credit, rising crime, homelessness and poverty, now more than ever is the time to bring people together to build a better future for us all. For those millions the only solution is a Labour Government that will invest in and transform our country.

That's why we must be united – not for ourselves but to deliver a Labour Government.

Sostenueto · 18/02/2019 13:48

grinchly as much as I want brexit not to be for the life of me I can't see what advantage these 7 MPs leaving the labour party will help to stop brexit. Yes they stood up for what they believe, which apart from wanting to remain in EU is a bit hard to work out apart from all of them disliking JC and the racism etc. They all got voted for on a labour party manifesto. Now they don't agree with it. I can understand they are peeved JC isn't supporting a PV yet ( as I was) but how on earth what these 7 are doing going to change anything?
They haven't come up with an alternative manifesto, name or have funds ( yet) to campaign and quite honestly, they believe in democracy, and we who want another referendum despite the first outcome believe people can change their minds so they should willingly put themselves up for another bi- election in the name of democracy to see if their constituents agree with their continuing as MPs. If as one of them said this morning their leave constituency is now 60% remain they should have no problem being re elected.

DGRossetti · 18/02/2019 13:49

That's why we must be united – not for ourselves but to deliver a Labour Government.

I'd still rather Remain with the Tories than Leave with Labour.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 13:51

I'd still rather Remain with the Tories than Leave with Labour.

I'm disabled and so either fills me with terror if I'm being candidly honest

Sostenueto · 18/02/2019 13:53

I'd rather not vote for any if them.

67chevvyimpala · 18/02/2019 13:55

God help me dg me too

Sostenueto · 18/02/2019 13:55

And won't.
