...We are not running down the clock.

Definitely not running down the clock.

Wouldn't do a thing like that.

Running down the clock.

Definitely not.

Sorry, can't talk. Too busy explaining that we are not running down the clock

....Absolutely NOT running down the clock.

Do you disagree with me that David Davis has betrayed Leave voters?

Bit of an unfair question, no ? Really, it only makes sense to ask if he has betrayed some Leave voters. Because by definition, the only thing he was capable for doing under instruction from the sacred referendum was "Leave the EU". So there must be some Leave voters who are entirely satisfied with his performance.

StepLadders007 · 12/02/2019 13:39

Was the problem that David Davis was a person in charge who simply didn't want to leave

I think I've got you now.

I said "the people in charge simply didn't want to leave"

and then you wittered on about David Davis.

David Davis was a bumbling idiot, right from the off, one would suggest he was put in the role" on purpose" he was that bad.

bellinisurge · 12/02/2019 13:44

Who should have in that role @StepLadders007 .
Did DD betray the sacred dream with his shitness. And Raab. And Johnson. And .....
Surely Gove has been infected with the Remainer virus so it can't be him.
Paranoid?

PerkingFaintly · 12/02/2019 13:45

Paahahaha!

Bravo!

David Davis campaigned for Brexit, won Brexit, was put in charge of making Brexit happen, fucked it up and ran away – and still you try to make the fault of "someone else".

Nice one!

PerkingFaintly · 12/02/2019 13:47

Yes, DGRosetti, to be fair, I was only thinking of the majority of Leave voters, rather than the elite few who stand to benefit financially from No Deal...

StepLadders007 · 12/02/2019 13:48

Who should have in that role

With hindsight, The Mog.

Are there any points to be made here or are we just shooting the shit.

PerkingFaintly · 12/02/2019 13:51

As time winds on and various Brexiteers show what they're made of, it's getting harder and harder for Leavers to keep up the "It's all the EU's fault. It's all Remainers' fault."

But you have to give them marks for trying.Grin

StepLadders007 · 12/02/2019 13:53

I'm still happy we're leaving.

jasjas1973 · 12/02/2019 15:37

@StepLadders007

The reason we are in this mess is because the Govt is acting on the ill informed and xenophobic views of their constituents instead of what they consider is in the nation's interests.

Ministers, together with civil service advisors are the experts, if you are correct and they don't really want to leave, then perhaps we should listen to them?

I may have needed a hip operation, i did not go to my local pub, give them a print out of the human skeleton, 10mins on google and seek their opinions via a vote - i took the advice of a Orthopedic surgeon.

MillytantForceit · 12/02/2019 15:45

The people voted for a cheese submarine.

Some say a potentially submersible vehicle that is generally yellow in appearance will be good enough.

Others say the people they voted for a cheese submarine and a cheese submarine it must be.

Some others are saying a cheese submarine is a bad idea, what with it being a submarine made of cheese and all. Such people are traitors, the enemies of the people who must all be killed, come the cheesy submariney revolution.

Does anyone think she is running down the clock to No Deal? I do.

+1

The question is why ? Because it's hard to shake the feeling the quickest way back into the EU is via the chaos of no-deal.

Once the forces of chaos have been unleashed, by definition they cannot be predicted or controlled - no matter what laws and guns you think you have on your side.

bellinisurge · 12/02/2019 16:36

She's doing it because as ghastly as WA is, No Deal is a million times worse.

Havanananana · 12/02/2019 16:46

As others have pointed out, the UK is a representative democracy. MPs are elected to act what they believe to be the best interests of their constituents and the country as a whole - they are not delegates.

MPs are also limited in what they can deliver. They are not operating in a vacuum - there are numerous outside forces that can affect the consequences of any decision. Just because the crew of the Titanic decide by a democratic majority that the iceberg should move, it doesn't mean that is what is going to happen.

Littlespace · 12/02/2019 17:25

Reasons the Titanic hit the iceberg and sank with huge loss of life.

  1. Belief that the Titanic was unsinkable.
  2. Bad design or design flaws
  3. Lack of risk assessment by White Star Line
  4. Ignoring multiple warnings of ice ahead directly in its path
  5. Arrogance of Captain ignoring other officers & warnings
  6. Going too fast
  7. No plan for risky situations / evacuation plan
  8. Poor communication
  9. Delay in admitting things were going wrong
  10. Panic
  11. Not enough lifeboats especially for the third class passengers
Quietrebel · 12/02/2019 17:57

Well, didn't Boris predict brexit would be a titanic success??

MrsTerryPratcett · 12/02/2019 18:07

Dictatorships tend to be really responsive to the Will of The People because they have to be. They have no mandate and therefore must interpret the people's will constantly or risk being ousted.

Representative democracies are the least swayed by the Will of The People because the representatives have a mandate. Hence why we have no death penalty, even though popular votes would have been for it many times.

TM decided to destroy her mandate with a GE, because just like DC, she doesn't know what the people will vote for.

We should have representatives upholding our best interests. What we have is a bunch of self-serving career politicians who are waiting to see who will blink first in this enormous and stupid game of Chicken. JC won't say anything because he thinks he can swoop in and pretend none of this was his fault. The hard Brexiteers are hiding behind the Will of The People even though they all know it will be an unmitigated disaster if we leave with no deal. And the soft as shite Remain and soft Leavers, who are hoping someone else will stand up and ruin their career but save the people of the UK.

And then there's the EU, who, despite many flaws appear to actually give a small crap about the principles of the EU, the people of NI and the people of the remaining 27. But they're the baddies?

bellinisurge · 12/02/2019 18:25

My dh was recalling the "are we the baddies" sketch Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/02/2019 18:35

With hindsight, The Mog.

How do you think things would be different now if Mogg has been in charge.

PerkingFaintly · 12/02/2019 18:41

Oh!

I thought that poster meant Mog the cat... Grin

DangermousesSidekick · 12/02/2019 18:44

I'm still happy we're leaving.

Do me a favour, and just remember you said that. No sneakily blaming remainers, the EU, or next door neighbour's dog if it all goes the way of "Project Fear".

PerkingFaintly · 12/02/2019 18:54

Actually, after treating myself to that Mog Christmas vid again, I still think she means Mog the cat.Grin

Littlespace · 12/02/2019 19:07

Titanic -

Captain Smith - Teresa May
Captain of SS California Jeremy Corbin
(ship nearby that failed to respond)

Bruce Ismay, chairman of the White Star Line - David Cameron
White Star Line Tory Party / ERG
Thomas Lord (ship design) Nigel Farage
The shipbuilders Voters
1st class passengers The Mega Rich like JRM
2nd class passengers English
3rd class passengers The Irish & Scottish

The only person both inquiries heaped scorn on was the captain of SS Californian, the ship that had stood by about 8 miles off, its crew watching the emergency flares being fired by Titanic, without doing anything about it until it was too late. “Such conduct,” said Senator Smith (of the Inquiry), “places upon the commander of the Californian a grave responsibility.”

Littlespace · 12/02/2019 19:14

Although if Mays deal does goes through after the clock has been wound down it will just be a sad, slow and steady decline.

Titanic is the No Deal scenario.

twofingerstoEverything · 12/02/2019 19:24

Stepladder This is from the MP's Code of Conduct:
MPs have a general duty to act in the interests of the nation as a whole as well as their constituents. This does NOT say: "must do whatever their constituents want..."

"We Are Not Running Down The Clock"
