Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

@FixTheBone - is it absolutely impossible for you to get a three day buffer in? It's probably too late to start it incrementally now for that large a number but if 3 days is really too much, how about 24 hours. Just to get some breathing space in for yourselves. So you can take care of yourselves without having to face the shops.

I hope you didn't vote for this.

Cloudtree · 11/02/2019 16:16

If things were so bad that the country was completely without food for three weeks (for example) who would want to survive it?? Really?? Confused Erm, I would! This is about planning for short term disruptions. By short term I mean up to a month. I would certainly be doing everything possible to keep things normal.

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 16:29

I could easily survive if the shops were empty for three weeks. Because I'm a prepper.
Three weeks of no food in the shops isn't chaos. It's a bit shit but it isn't chaos.

FriarTuck · 11/02/2019 16:35

If half the country is going to starve to death after 3 weeks then I vote we leave with no deal - I can last for ages on my stores & then I can knock down the neighbours' houses and create a serious allotment to keep me going longer still. Not to mention the peace and quiet. Bliss I tell you, sheer bliss! Bring on the starvation!!!
Fixthebone - could you not fit a small box with a few tins or packets in the corner of each room? Or on the top of a wardrobe or kitchen cupboard? Even a row of tins on top of the cupboards would be a start.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/02/2019 17:05

Bought some tinned rhubarb today in case fruit is on short supply. The tins are just about big enough to make a small crumble or I suppose you could serve with custard.

IDoN0tCare · 11/02/2019 17:09

tinned rhubarb

You can get tinned rhubarb?! Shock How did I live for so many decades and not know this! Rhubarb crumble. drool 🤤

Duckshead · 11/02/2019 17:09

Fixthebone how do you feed 7 children and yourself with so little to fall back on? What happens if you're ill or it snows?

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/02/2019 17:24

I am intrigued fix the bone. Do you shop everyday? I suppose it depends on the size of home one lives in and how full it is of 9 people's stuff.

Places suggested on other threads:
Under the bed (already full of books)
Behind the sofa (toys)
Top of wardrobe (next size clothes and Christmas presents)
Behind books on bookshelves. (If I get desperate)
Beside furniture. (Packets and spaghetti Packs would fit but only if not going to cause mold.
Under stairs. (Full already)
In loft or garage. ( Already really really full but squeezed in some detergent)
Under sofa, dining table, desk.
Under units if kickboards come off. (If not damp)
Light things go on top of cupboards.

No unusual stockpiling for us, I've only just done my quarterly huge restock of the store cupboard which I do regardless and buy,

15 x beaked beans
15 x tinned tomatoes
15 x Passata
20 x tuna
10 x double backs wok noodles
15 x beans (various types)
4 1kg bags pasta shapes
4 500g packs spaghetti
4 tubes tomato purée
4 tubes garlic purée
5 boxes cornflakes
5 boxes coco pops (shocking I know!)
2 x 2kg bags oats
2 x 2kg bags rice
5 x various tinned fruits
5 x tinned custard
4 x peanut butter
2 x Jam
2 x honey
2 x Nutella (cheaper version of)
1kg flour
1kg sugar
12 bottles of wine
12 bottles of flavoured fizzy water
4 large
Bottles dc squash
6 x UHT milk

Then whatever we need to top up soup/pasta sauce/pesto etc for very quick meals.

There are 6 of us, one with a complicated eating pattern.
I grew up in poverty where we didn't always get meals so I have a phobia of running out of food.

The freezer is always full of portioned meat and fish and frozen peas/sweet corn/chips/mash and a drawer dedicated to bread.

The fridge always has cheese and plenty of fresh veg and milk and I buy 30 eggs a week.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/02/2019 18:03

IDo I must admit I've only discovered it recently. It's 90p Alan in our local Asda Smile

NopeNi · 11/02/2019 18:06

SEVEN children, and no way to store any food for them for a week or two? Wow. Definitely worth just all curling up and dying then.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/02/2019 18:09

Titsalina I'm a little intrigued by beaked beans. Tell me more Grin

oopslateagain · 11/02/2019 18:12

Baked beans with extra protein, of course. Grin

PerverseConverse · 11/02/2019 18:54

IDoN0tCare I discovered tinned rhubarb about a year ago. It's sold in quite large tins and is perfect for a crumble for 5 of us. Chuck in some apples to make it go further. Or tinned strawberries. Because it's tinned in syrup it doesn't need any sugar added when cooking. It's about 80p a tin compared to £2-3 a pack of fresh. It's the way forward. Tinned strawberries and rhubarb combined is very sweet. I'd recommended rinsing to get rid of some of the syrup.

Howdoidothis4eva · 11/02/2019 19:11

@SpunBodgeSquarepants, I can beat that, lol, I have about 200 rolls of toilet paper.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 11/02/2019 19:59

@howdoidothis4eva where do you keep them all?!

OP posts:
BlackeyedGruesome · 11/02/2019 19:59

Only got 52 loo rolls and the pack that is open.

GummyGoddess · 11/02/2019 20:36

@IDoN0tCare re bread machine - FB marketplace usually seems to have them on there really cheaply.

PerverseConverse · 11/02/2019 20:44

I thought I was doing well with my 20 loo rolls!!

AutumnCrow · 11/02/2019 20:51

Morrisons have those large stacking strong cardboard fruit/veg boxes by the tills, empty, and you can help yourself. I've filled and stacked those in a corner of the kitchen. Lots of tins, packets, long life stuff.

MadameJosephine · 11/02/2019 21:13

This is mine. I’ve got the following stashed in DD’s fitted wardrobes

Weetabix
Oats
Breakfast biscuits
Cereal bars
Chocolate digestives
Wholewheat Pasta
Brown Rice
Instant noodles
Pasta and sauce
Savoury rice
Packets of soya mince
Loads of tinned soups
Loads of tins of beans/curry beans/bbq beans/beans and sausages/ravioli/spaghetti
Tinned meals like stew/curry
Jars of pasta sauce
Tinned pies
Tinned fruit
Dried fruit
Bread mixes
Powdered milk
Multivitamins

There’s only me and 6yo DD and I reckon we could last at least a month, maybe even two. I think it’s a sensible thing to do anyway, I was housebound with a chest infection before Christmas and struggled to get shopping and you never know when you could have a financial crisis and need to rely on your reserves

MadameJosephine · 11/02/2019 21:14

Oh and there’s cat food in there too for the curious cat in the photo Grin

Whatthefoxgoingon · 11/02/2019 21:21

Your cat seems to be making his/her considered selection there Grin

HeronLanyon · 11/02/2019 21:48

Re rhubarb I have only tried one tinned variety andnit wasn’t good. Just today bought and stewed and froze 5 big bags with chopped ginger.
Renprepping more generally I live in small flat but have bought storage cubes which are on top of my kitchen cabinets and don’t look too bad. Have 6 full of stuff. Around 3/4 weeks good and households plus longer supplies of things like spices and olives and capers ie tasty things which I fear may be problematic for some time. Really feel it is all ludicrous and sensible at the same time but have done it. What a mess this country is in !

littleblackno · 11/02/2019 22:03

@madamejosephine I think we should all stockpile cats.
I have an ottoman bed and the bottom is full of tins/ packets. Probably enough for a month maybe a little more. I also have 2 freezers and enough toilet rolls to keep the street stocked!
