Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

We have a breadmaker, can't always be arsed doing it but it's soooo nice. Got extra flour in as part of stockpile.

FreezerBird · 11/02/2019 11:14

We've built up a stock of (probably quite boring) staples and the last week or so I've turned my mind to more treat type stuff in case it does all get very boring - so I bought a load of jelly! Takes up little space, is made with just boiling water, and makes me regress to five-year-old at a birthday party feelings. Good call, I thought.

We looked at the stash the other day and DH said "I think we've got nearly the amount of food which my mum keeps in all the time" which made us both chuckle and at least means we don't need to worry about mil and fil should there be problems.

I need to double check what fuel we've got for cooking - but we live fairly rurally and keeping the camping supplies/candles stocked up is just routine bad weather preparedness for us.

WellTidy · 11/02/2019 11:18

I am not mentioning my "Brexit shelf" to anyone, as the very few people who I did tell (DH and DS1, I am looking at you) were very vocal in making fun. But I have:

Coffee, hot chocolate and tea
Squash, juice, tonic and diet coke
Flour, bread flour, yeast and sugar
Biscuits and sweets
Tinned tuna salmon, soups, tomatoes, kidney beans, curry sauces
Tomato puree, garlic puree
Rice, pasta, lentils, posher Smash
Crackers, crisps, Pringles and popping corn
Condiments
Jams, honey, marmite
Custard, rice puds
Laundry stuff
Household cleaning stuff
Sanpro
Over thoe counter medication
Loo rolls, nappies and wipes
Spices, stock cubes, seasoning, herbs etc

Also a 6 foot tall full freezer with meat, fish, bread etc. (Yet to buy frozen veg, including chopped onions though.) I've stewed apples, and frozen blackberries as I figure I can then make a crumble. Butter seems to freeze ok. Also stocked up on everything that DS2 (diagnosed with Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) will eat that can freeze.

Considering getting UHT milk even though none of us like it - what are everyone's thoughts on milk being in high demand/short supply?

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 11/02/2019 12:08

Not sure about milk as a lot of it has British milk on the container iirc

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 12:11

Doesn't matter if it has "Annie's farm about two minutes from the supermarket " on it. If you don't want to be near supermarkets full of angry people, get some freezer friendly and/ or shelf stable stuff in if that is a key part of your diet.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 11/02/2019 12:17

I rarely go to the supermarket anyway l get it mostly online also so could get it then. We always have about 6l of the uht stuff in anyway

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 12:18

And the supermarket is going to deliver what to you?

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 11/02/2019 12:24

Hopefully the supermarket will deliver my shopping like it always does. Amazon delivers our shopping also. If not there is only 2 of us and I’m sure we will manage with not much or no milk or Amazon will have some powdered stuff

PerverseConverse · 11/02/2019 12:37

@bellinisurge unicorn milk, obviously Grin

IDoN0tCare · 11/02/2019 12:39
Grin
WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 11/02/2019 12:40

We have 6 litres of uht milk anyway which is probably more than most on this thread so we won’t need any unicorn milk getting in

PerverseConverse · 11/02/2019 12:48

If push came to shove I could up my breastmilk supply. According to my ds there's lots of milk in my right breast. Not sure how good my left one is as think they are tired after 4 years (self weaning is a slow progress 😩).

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 12:56

I love the "hopefully". That's rather the point.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 11/02/2019 12:59

Well if they don’t deliver we have at least 3 months supply of stuff and a big veg plot, how many months supplies do you suggest people get in then

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 13:00

I have consistently said 3 days . Do more if you want. Don't do less.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 11/02/2019 13:03

Well not a problem then is it. 3 days is hardly anything

PerverseConverse · 11/02/2019 13:05

I'm not sure how much I've actually got. 2 weeks maybe. 3 once I've got decent UHT milk supplies. I made a ciabatta from a mix yesterday and turned out well so might get more mixes. My forays into flour, yeast and water haven't gone well. I've ordered Paul Hollywood's Bread book from the library and will keep trying. I've ordered a few packs of crackers today. The children get free school lunches but who knows if they will continue.

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 13:07

You would think not@WhentheDealGoesDown1 , but the haranguing I've had on here for suggesting it is eye popping.
As a general prepper I do more but I recognise that most people have neither the money , the space nor the inclination to do anything.
I don't know everyone's circumstances so there is no point me urging people to do more. That is their call once they have a 3 day buffer in.

Reads BlackeyedGruesome’s list, gets new pen and paper, digs down sides of sofa for more money

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/02/2019 13:37

we normally run quite high stocks anyway due to illness, single parenthood, being without water after mains went, disabled children, etc

I make sure that I have at least one of everything in stock and enough for about three days anyway, so increased to about a week or two. some I have months in, if for example there has been a recent offer, but not usually across the board. I

I have alwasy stockked up on tinned beans and tomatoes during ramadan when offers are on in shops.

now I am just filling in the gaps.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/02/2019 13:41

I do not care, mine has been copied from other peoples lists, everyone likes different stuff. I am not going to stock up tinned potatoes, yet, but will find something else to replace them. I have just used up the potatoes I bought on holiday, in august. They were fine.

Duckshead · 11/02/2019 15:53

Anyone else keep adding more and more into their shop? I'm worried that the Tesco delivery driver is going to rumble me, I've decided to tell him/her that I'm doing a big cook up for the church fundraiser! Grin

FixTheBone · 11/02/2019 16:02

No point in stockpiling for us. We have 7 children and one single undercounter fridge and freezer and one tin cupboard.

Stockipiling as much as we physically can might feed us for a an extra day, but if things are genuinely that bad, who'd want to survive anyway....?
