Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

This is if we No Deal: I think a bit of immediate panic buying - cue Brexiteers saying it would all be fine if it wasn't for silly panic buying - followed by a slow burn of patchiness of stuff- cue Brexiteers saying it's all brilliant just the odd bump - followed by price rises.
If we WA or similar, I predict some steady price rises but nothing too bumpy.

37.1 million people in imminent danger of either starving to death or suffering from malnutrition.

And people are proud of hoarding food Hmm

bellinisurge · 10/02/2019 20:14

@SpanielEars070 , this is an entirely self inflicted issue. Blaming the people who are going to be at the sharp end of it is victim blaming.

And I am a very old rubbish Catholic, trying to guilt trip me over people starving in other countries doesn't really work. I know all that but I am responsible for feeding my daughter not vague "other people " or "the government ". It's me. And if I can't guarantee that there will be food in our shops it's my job to do what I can to feed her by getting a buffer of food in.

PerverseConverse · 10/02/2019 20:28

Well said @bellinisurge.
@IDoN0tCare I keep getting the odd thing for my mum too and have added it to her cupboard. Treats mainly as she won't think of those, and UHT milk. Thankfully she listens when I suggest she adds a few extra things in the supermarket like her favourite biscuits made in Germany, tinned fruit, lentils and stock cubes. Thanks to whoever it was suggesting it she got herself a couple of tins of meat in sauce from M&S the other day so she can make herself some pies.

IDoN0tCare · 10/02/2019 20:37

And people are proud of hoarding food

So, what are YOU doing about it! I assume you only buy second hand clothes/items and buy the lowest priced and blandest foods, so you can send your money to them.
Have you been on holiday in the last few years? Adding to global warming and in turn that increases drought in those countries.
More than one child? Shame on you for adding to the over population of the world. The money you’re spending on your child that you insisted on having could have kept numerous children alive in poor countries.
Naturally you don’t buy gifts for family and friends, because that would buy so much for the poor.

Shall I continue?

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 10/02/2019 20:44

I added Brexit box 2 last week. To my very healthy stocks.

I have not got anywhere near enough loo roll.

IDoN0tCare · 10/02/2019 20:50

I have not got anywhere near enough loo roll.

Ahh cobblers! I’ve just realised I forgot to buy extra, on my shop today.

ChakiraChakra · 10/02/2019 20:56

I mean come on here, first aid kits, matches, sleeping bags? Surely our duvets aren't going to combust? It's beyond ridiculous and I think it's targeting the simple and easily led. If there's going to be a shortage, it won't be in long life milk or even fresh milk.

If people panic buy the shops empty. Completely. Regardless of if the UK produces enough of it or not.

Sleeping bags and hot water bottles - I've only seen one mention of those and it's somebody just not getting rid of what they've already got, and they explained why - fuel could get expensive. Exactly how is just delaying getting rid of a thing you might find useful for a bit longer, ridiculous Confused

Everybody has said that if (hopefully) there's nothing doing, then they'll just use up the stuff, no worries.

37.1 million people in imminent danger of either starving to death or suffering from malnutrition.

Cool. So tell me how not "hoarding food" bit by bit in the UK (that will be used over the next few month regardless) will help those 37.1m people. Because on the contrary, I can tell you a lot of people "hoarding" are planning to donate some of their stash to foodbanks if they're not needed, which will directly help people who are in food poverty.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 10/02/2019 21:24

I'm up to 40 loo rolls now guys.

There'd be no need to worry about milk if we as a society didn't start panic buying and emptying shelves as a response to shortages of anything. But we do. As history shows us that there will be general panic buying if there's disruption to the supply chain, one can't assume people will show any restraint in the face of foods we're actually self-sufficient in.

oopslateagain · 10/02/2019 21:48

Here's mine. All things we eat/use normally, with the addition of dried milk and extra bottled water. Also a (very) small stockpile of prescription meds. Good for about a month's worth of Brexit shortages, bad weather and/or the Zombie Apocalypse.

bellinisurge · 10/02/2019 21:56

@Uptheapplesandpears , which is why it is a good idea to get in alternatives to fresh dairy now. Calmly and proportionately. So that when the people who still think it's all nonsense finally twig and start panicking, you can wait until things calm down, still have the dairy or equivalent that you enjoy but be able to wait it out.
The number of people who love hopping onto these threads, slagging people off and then hopping off is starting to reduce. But they are still around. And they will be the panicking idiots. Not people getting a buffer of food in.

Uptheapplesandpears · 10/02/2019 21:59

I don't really like milk but yeah, agree it's worth a thought if you do.

PurplePepperEater · 10/02/2019 22:03

Ok I thought I was doing well but these pictures are making me realise I need to get a bit more serious

PerverseConverse · 10/02/2019 22:36

Am envious of all these storage spaces! Mine is in 2 plastic boxes under the sideboard (food) and in bathroom cabinets (Toiletries), the airing cupboard (loo roll) and the boiler cupboard (detergents which will be moved to somewhere else as too warm in there). Oh and the chocolate and crisp stash in my bed drawer of course Smile

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/02/2019 23:07

DH has realised I'm stockpiling. He said tonight that he's made sure we have an extra gas bottle for the camping stove. We are very old and can remember the strikes in the 70s that left us without electricity. I love the fact that he's done it without trying to worry me.

Thank you for this thread. I need to add some painkillers, candles and matches and I definitely need to add some more tinned veg.

IDoN0tCare · 10/02/2019 23:23

JiltedJohnsJulie I’m not sure if you’re talking about general strikes or the NI strikes, that brought the country to a standstill, I was 6yrs old, during the NI strikes of 74, but still remember the fear in my mother’s voice, when she was talking about the local butcher sneaking food to his regular customers. He took a big risk.

I think some people have no idea how mercenary and criminal their neighbours and friends can become in bad times. For me, it is the very real fear of the troubles starting up again, because of Brexit.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 11/02/2019 09:38

So I now have a small box dedicated solely to bread flours /mixes and yeast - enough to make 15 loaves. Anyone else have a bread machine?

Thanks to lots of lovely advice on here, I have a bread maker machine. I can and have done it the old fashioned way but I luvs me new Panasonic bought in part with some unused anniversary vouchers. Yes, I have yeast and flour.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 11/02/2019 09:54

@oopslateagain I got stockpile envy over here, I'd love to have space for shelves for my stuff, but as I'm in a two bed flat my stuff is just in boxes under the table at the moment!!

IDoN0tCare · 11/02/2019 10:06

It’s something I’ve been considering. I’m a kitchen gadget geek. 🤓 Can you just make big loaves or can they be different sizes?

I think your stockpile is brilliant, SpunBodgeSquarepants. You’ve obviously put a lot of thought into it. I love seeing other people’s supplies, because I get so many ideas from them. I wouldn’t have thought of half the stuff, if it hadn5 been for Mumsnet.

Cloudtree · 11/02/2019 10:08

Mine is quite a big machine but the loaves aren't big. They're the size of a half standard loaf.

IDoN0tCare · 11/02/2019 10:11

They're the size of a half standard loaf.

That sounds perfect. I end up with bread going off, because my little girl doesn’t eat bread, other than for packed lunch. Thank you.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 11/02/2019 10:24

Well I’ve got 90 toilet rolls and considering getting another 90 as the ones I use are discontinued in the shops but Amazon stocks them. We always have months of stuff in anyway as I buy loads when I get offers on them. I keep the overflow upstairs in the spare room
