Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

We normally run a well-stocked cupboard anyway as I like to have stuff in and to take advantage of special offers. So this just feels like the next step.

Same here! Always had an eye for offers, and careful meal-planning and batch-cooking. So for us it's like normal life, but turned up to 11, sort of thing.

DH is fully on board - in fact, his team at work are also stockpiling work stuff - scientific supplies, of which many are imported, and (being specialist items) are already freaking expensive to begin with, so pre-empting any price rises is seen as only sensible.

FranklinTheCat · 28/02/2019 15:01

Now if I start stockpiling banoffee curd, he might well get on board...

DP is not unintelligent but I think it's a mixture of ignorance (about the fragility of the supply chain) and denial. He's not having a go or anything, just raising his eyebrows, laughing when he sees me scrutinising tins in Marks, etc. He also had to be told not to eat the stash and to buy his cereal bars anyway so is skating on thin ice...

AutumnCrow · 28/02/2019 15:06

I have a DP though we don't live together. I pretty much do what I like; he's the same.

He is sole carer for his son with ASD, so he has to keep a well-managed store cupboard anyway as his DS has a lot of sensory and psychological issues around food and drink, and around things like the 'right' shampoo and loo roll. Long story short, DP is very on board with stocking up.

It's very worrying for him, in this context.

Brilliant stuff Grin

BadlyAgedMemes · 28/02/2019 15:46

Do you find your DPs/DHs are on board with your stockpiling?

My (working for the Home Office) DH, who is usually the least panicky person, is on board. I don't know how much of it is him humouring me, and he's not really getting too involved, but he generally seems to think it's reasonable, that the government can't be trusted to sort out a piss up in a brewery, and isn't raiding my stash. As a thank you for his co-operation, I've stacked up on some beef jerky and pork scratchings.

SparklySneakers · 28/02/2019 15:58

Loving the Aibu thread borntobequiet. It's a hoot and a brexit bingo bunfest.

I got my treat stash out earlier just to admire it and ask the small one what we should add to it. He's very excited about when he can eat some.

I bought a lot of cheese today and must crack on with freezing some. Pre-sliced good until 9/5/19. Packages mild cheddar ok until April or May (can't remember which but plenty of time).

Cloudtree · 28/02/2019 16:21

Discussing brexit with clients today. Chief exec and HR Director of large organisation. Both have stockpiled..

NoWordForFluffy · 28/02/2019 17:28

DH is on board good and proper here. He helps me hide the stash in various places! Grin

SparklySneakers · 28/02/2019 21:29

We've just been called crazies on the Aibu thread Grin Might be a new one for the bingo card.

I'm quite stunned by just how many posters don't think there'll be any issues/deny the possibility of issues/have taken no steps to prepare for no deal. Part of me hopes it all goes tits up (briefly without last damage or any deaths) just to prove our point. I sincerely hope it doesn't but the bitchy side of me really hopes they have a severe "fuck. What the fuck have we done to our country" moment when there are shortages and issues and they are queuing for milk and fighting over bread whilst us "smug" preppers sit at home with our cups of tea and chocolate biscuit stash as our homemade bread bakes in the oven.

whilst us "smug" preppers sit at home with our cups of tea and chocolate biscuit stash as our homemade bread bakes in the oven.

But that’ll be all OUR FAULT, because we caused a food shortage by our panic buying. Oh yes, apparently stocking up over the last few weeks/months is panic buying. Still trying to work out how that works. 😁

SparklySneakers · 28/02/2019 21:45

These threads have kept me amused today. You do have to be careful that those 8 tins of beans you bought in January don't cause shortages you know. My asda, Tesco, Waitrose and co-op are all out of stock still fully stocked now. Selfish bastards, preppers. Smug know it alls because they read government guidance and read beyond the daily Fail. Crazy the lot of them.

Grin
TheElementsSong · 28/02/2019 22:19

Strangely, I'm not bothered at being called "crazy" by some angry, defensive randoms whose best contribution they can come up with is a bunch of unoriginal insults, empty slogans and tired tropes that have been so comprehensively and repeatedly disproved, that we made a Bingo list out of them long ago.

FranklinTheCat · 28/02/2019 22:21

Well, if there's a shortage of Organix cereal bars, that may just be my fault as Sainsburys just keep putting them on special offer Blush.

But it's ok, because there is government advice out there [really?] and "individuals and businesses are making their own judgements...about the likelihood of no deal Brexit....and that will influence their judgements about the extent to which they need to make personal preparations".

What a fucking shambles.

IDoN0tCare · 28/02/2019 22:31

I think it’s hilarious how they get so het up about other people getting prepared for the worst, while hoping for the best. What possible harm does it do to be organised? It gives me a sense of security and has almost become a hobby. My kitchen has never been as well organised and I have a lovely tidy garage, with toilet rolls, toiletries, etc. If I have a notion for something sweet I can get it at any time and just replace it on my next shop.

I suppose if certain posters can’t tell the difference between careful shopping to build up a stock and panic buying, we can’t really be surprised that they don’t understand what the experts are saying.

LightAsTheBreeze · 28/02/2019 22:31

I must admit if I see a bargain, I do buy a lot of it, its a lot easier to get it online though as someone else has to carry it to the door or Tesco bring it into the kitchen. I get the Andrex in packs of 45 from Amazon as they sell the ones I like. If Brexit shortages happen I will probably just do several different online shops with different supermarkets and see what comes.

IDoN0tCare · 28/02/2019 22:36

I did have a chuckle when a friend insisted that it wouldn’t be a problem, because if they couldn’t get what they wanted in Tesco, they’d just go to Asda. I like their optimism, but did ask point out to them that it seems like a lot of hassle, when they could buy it now. 🤷‍♀️

MintyCedric · 28/02/2019 22:51

I've stacked up on some beef jerky and pork scratchings.

Thank you for the reminder Grin!

LightAsTheBreeze · 28/02/2019 22:54

Well I just posted on this thread when I was meant to be on the family bringing food one, I must be on this one somewhere for it to come up on threads I'm on. At least its the same subject thoughGrin

BlackeyedGruesome · 28/02/2019 23:41

Chocolate biscuits are calling from the stash. Trying.to.resist!

I have done a weekly shop and buried my worksurface I need to put it away somewhere.

Added wraps with a long date, Tomato purée to the hoard and topped up other stuff we have eaten over the holidays. The cupboard I'd looking bare, but getting restocked tomorrow.

SparklySneakers · 01/03/2019 19:11

Anyone keep a list of their stash and keep it up to date?
I did one a couple of weeks ago on lined A4 but ran out of space so thinking of printing one out. I need a way of keeping track.

TheElementsSong · 01/03/2019 19:28

Yep, I have a spreadsheet Grin

SparklySneakers · 01/03/2019 19:47

Think I need one.
I keep reading things on here and the Brexit cupboard and meaning to add them then forget what they were 😩
I might upload my list for checking by the preppier pros to see if I've missed anything obvious.

Cloudtree · 01/03/2019 20:45

I had a spreadsheet and ditched it for a small notebook with a double page spread for each letter and then I just use a tally. Far less likely to go wrong than the spreadsheet.

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/03/2019 00:06

I think I need a spread sheet as I have several places that food is stored and I can not work out how many of each thing I have got without going through several lists. there is a cupboard, (usual kitchen cupboard) under the cupboard, on top of the cupboard, 6small storage spaces and one large storage space. which gets complicated as I have mixed up things in each space. each one has lots of different sorts of food if possible. (eg tin of carrots, sweetcorn, peas, and chopped tomatoes with a pack of rice, some dried fruit, a box of cereal etc)

I was thinking of starting a thread of lists, so we can check each others for ideas! because I am sure I have forgotten something crucial
