Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

Trade issues, smuggling, crime, electricity... All mentioned as being an issue for NI.

I'm relieved to have found this thread. I bought some emergency beans a few weeks ago and was laughed at in work. Then I heard lots of high up staff chatting about their stash (people I have lots of respect for and are generally quite sensible) and have been debating whether to start stock piling.

Went out earlier and bought extra beans, pasta, noodles, tinned tomatoes, cous cous and loo roll and DH thinks I've lost the plot. Not a major haul bit it would give is a week or two Confused

ChakiraChakra · 26/02/2019 23:45

Well we're not hoarding RedToothBrushes so there's nothing for you to worry about here. Move along now.

bellinisurge · 27/02/2019 06:14

@RedToothBrush , in defence of anchovies and choosing them, I would say that having something you particularly like in a meal to cheer you up is a good idea. Not having to go to the shops if things are tricky there in order to get the thing you really fancy is a sensible move. Having a bit of a rueful laugh about having them with like minded people is also a good idea.
I really dislike macaroni but like penne. Having one not the other gives me a sense of personalisation and choice that means get start to feel thin on the ground if things get bumpy. I love corned beef and angel delight (not together Grin) - remind me of my late Mum's kitchen- and have them for the same reason. I'd rather have some choice and Brexit is trying to take that away from me. It's trying to force other choices on me. Some I'm ok with, some not.
In short. If you want blooming anchovies, have them.

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/02/2019 07:09

Tins of anchovies are tiny and fit on top of other things. Easy to pop into the cupboard.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2019 07:28

Some people's anchovies are another persons chocolates Wink

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/02/2019 07:43

who says there is not chocolate stashed as well?

bellinisurge · 27/02/2019 07:51

I like both anchovies and chocolate Grin

Cloudtree · 27/02/2019 07:52

Anchovies are the sort of thing that last for years. This thread is about ensuring that you have the things you use. Therefore if you use anchovies it makes sense to have some available.

We are forward purchasing. If you don't want to then don't. We don't care. Your loss when you at the very least have to pay a lot more for the things you use.

IDoN0tCare · 27/02/2019 08:05

Then I heard lots of high up staff chatting about their stash (people I have lots of respect for and are generally quite sensible) and have been debating whether to start stock piling

You see, that’s what I’m finding Emergencycake. It’s my clients who are high up in their careers or run their own businesses that are stocking up on stuff. They’re not the paranoid or panicking type.

As for RedToothBrush’s furious rant. 🙄She/he should have a wee lie down because I’ve stocked up on Olives and capers too. 😁

PrawnOfCreation · 27/02/2019 08:06

Anchovies for me are about having a little extra. I can make pizza flatbreads for pennies, but add a few anchovies and BAM flavour town.

MadAboutWands · 27/02/2019 08:14

I agree about olives, capers or anchovies.
Mainly because
1- i like them. And they will make meals more enjoyable, whatever is available.
2- im using them and I’ve only stocked up on things i know I will use (so canned potatoes for me)
3- my other reason to stockpile atm is cost. I’d rather buy things now than in 3 or 6 months time if prices indeed go up by 20% or 45%. (I’m pretty confident they won’t go down)

I’m still feeling unsure about my stockpile though. What we use the most are fresh vegetables. The thing that will be harder to find. My (little) freezer is full. And it still feels like not enough. I’m not sure what else I can get to help there. (We have the usual beans and lentils etc... already)

Whatthefoxgoingon · 27/02/2019 08:23

Anchovies
Olives
Capers
Tinned tomatoes
Parmesan
Dried parsley
Pasta
Garlic purée

You have pasta puttanesca. A very decent store cupboard meal. I’ve stored plenty of anchovies.

SalliSunbeem · 27/02/2019 08:31

I can't believe people fall for the remainers propaganda.

MadAboutWands · 27/02/2019 09:03

Garlic!! Excellent idea. There is some in about all the meals we make!

ChakiraChakra · 27/02/2019 09:06

I can't believe people bury their heads to increasingly overwhelming evidence. Shrugs

Right now, we don't have the means to get fresh fruit and veg into the country in 30 days time, and that's only one of the many logistical nightmares.

We have about 7 out of 60 trade agreements with alternative providers, in place.

But it's no skin off my nose if a stranger on t'interweb who voted for and still supports this gets to feel first hand the problems its going to cause.

PrawnOfCreation · 27/02/2019 09:49

Iceland has tubes of stuff like garlic, ginger, chilli, parsley etc for cooking. £1.80 for two at the moment. Very tasty, long life and cheaper than I've seen elsewhere.

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/02/2019 09:55

Thanks prawn.

TheElementsSong · 27/02/2019 09:57

Oh, I missed a drive-by empty-slogan-spritzer. Shame.

Never mind, it's a good opportunity to appeal, once again, to any undecided lurkers (unlikely I know!) - if you're convinced to sink back into a pink fluffy cloud of indecision simply by reading a one-sentence empty slogan, go right ahead. If on the other hand, you really did click on this thread in a spirit of genuine inquiry, then feel free to wonder why there is a particular demographic of poster who can only communicate in empty slogans, and never comes back to address the points under discussion, and perhaps wonder what their agenda is (never mind how they might have voted).

SparklySneakers · 27/02/2019 10:04

My mum is still aghast at how there's nothing in place and can't understand how the government haven't got it sorted. I think she still thinks it surely must be ok and nothing bad will happen.
She's seeing my idiot of a sister today. My leave voting, Britain first post sharing, it'll all be ok but shit I'm really worried now and wish I hadn't voted leave sister. I have no sympathy for her whatsoever.
In other news, I really must stop eating so many kitkats. Maybe I should binge eat fruit instead while we can still buy it.

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/02/2019 10:13

Eat fruit. Kit-kats keep.

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/02/2019 10:15

Propaganda needs an entry into the dictionary elements.

bellinisurge · 27/02/2019 10:27

@RedToothBrush has been doing sterling work on Westminstenders thread. If they hate anchovies, I can see that repeated references to anchovies would be annoying Grin. You get a pass from me @RedToothBrush because of your heroics on the other thread.
The whole point of getting a buffer of food in is doing what works for you. If anchovies don't work for you, don't get 'em.
