Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

I once had to make up a packet of peppercorn sauce with a Tassimo milk pod...bit of an expensive option though!

ChakiraChakra · 25/02/2019 00:07

Brilliant 😂

FriarTuck · 25/02/2019 07:50

you can slice some butter as if it were cheese, freeze the slices separately, then rewrap it, so you can defrost it in bits.
What a fantastic idea! (And handy if your freezer is chocka because you can slide the slices in where you couldn't fit a whole block)

WellTidy · 25/02/2019 09:37

Those that freeze butter, do you find that it remains as stable after it has been defrosted as butter that has never been froze and defrosted please?

I have frozen stewed apple and stewed rhubarb and have about 2lb of blackberries that I foraged last summer. We can have those with custard or I can make a crumble with the frozen butter.

In a throwback to the early 80s, I have also bought some flan bases, quick setting jelly in sachets (it used to be branded Quick-Jel) and some tinned mandarin segments. And some Carnation evaporated milk to have with.

Focussing on desserts is important, you see.

Cloudtree · 25/02/2019 09:40

I can't tell the difference between butter than has been frozen and butter that hasn't.

HeronLanyon · 25/02/2019 09:41

I’ve always found frozen butter behaves impeccably when defrosted - for spreading and cooking. Frozen hard cheese becomes a bit more flakey - seems the fat dries out a bit? - but still perfectly good for slicing/grating. Parmesan has good long dates generally so I’m have some stashed in fridge. Frozen milk no probs at all.

IDoN0tCare · 25/02/2019 09:42

Cheese is far better if grated before being frozen.

HeronLanyon · 25/02/2019 09:45

I also have picked blackberries frozen and gonna do a bag of bananas - they seem to keep well for months and frozen into smoothie are lovely. Final freezer push is frozen fresh spinach portions. However I really am running out of space ! I think I could survive for a few months with what I have but less if I didn’t have cooker and freezer (not that I am envisaging power disruption - if that happens I think cooked food might be the least of our worries).

WellTidy · 25/02/2019 10:02

Thanks all for the feedback on butter.

MaccaPacca81 · 25/02/2019 10:06

@HeronLanyon

I have 3 blocks of frozen butter, 4ltr of UHT, 1 jar of coconut oil, 2ltr of veg oil, 1ltr of my fav olive oil, 2 bottles of my favourite balsamic vinegar (I'm such a twat!). I'm not allowed to keep anything oily anywhere near the new carpets so they are in the kitchen cupboards!

I've also got big bags of frozen chopped onions, peppers, spinach etc

Loo rolls yet to sort out, sanitary products yet to sort out.

If anyone is wondering about the bags of Huel, its a complete food replacement. Each bag is about a weeks worth of food for one person. This isnt specific to prepping, I just have it for brekkie before I run out the door for work,

HeronLanyon · 25/02/2019 10:13

Grin you looked somorganised I hesitated to ask (but then did). Excellent !!

Cloudtree · 25/02/2019 10:26

My cleaner has just been telling me about milk soup as a long life alternative to porridge. Basically heated milk with pasta and sugar sprinkled on top. I guess a bit like rice pudding but with pasta. Apparently its very popular in Poland, very cheap and very filling.

She also recommended semolina with worcestershire sauce which I think I might give a miss!

When I'm home during her visits not much cleaning gets done at the moment. We spend the whole time discussing stockpiles and vegetable gardens! Grin

IDoN0tCare · 25/02/2019 10:32

HeronLanyon how do you freeze the bananas? Still I their skin or sliced?

IDoN0tCare · 25/02/2019 10:34

MaccaPacca81 Fo you mind if I ask where you got the Huel and how much it is?

borntobequiet · 25/02/2019 10:35

www.greatbritishpuddings.com/sweet-puddings-recipes/macaroni-pudding
You can add a tablespoon of eg marsala wine if you want!

Cloudtree · 25/02/2019 10:37

Yes I bet that macaroni pudding is the same thing. Might give it a go. I'd never considered sweet pasta.

Huel has to be bought from their website. You can get discount codes though for your first order.

IDoN0tCare · 25/02/2019 10:46

Thank you Cloudtree.

HeronLanyon · 25/02/2019 10:46

idonotcare thanks for the grated cheese top although
Mine is now frozen in smallish chunks.
Re bananas cut into say 5ths not in skin. Ie biggish chunks. Freeze on tray first separated. Then into bag with as much air out as possible. Only good really for baking/smoothies etc. I do this anyway with brown overripe ones rather than throw them.

MaccaPacca81 · 25/02/2019 12:50

@IDoN0tCare Just to add, you can eat real food for less. I believe it works out to around £1.50 per meal.

AutumnCrow · 25/02/2019 14:31

I bought a load of tins of anchovies at Lidl at the weekend, 53p each tin and very nice quality. I can't imagine them ever getting cheaper.

ChakiraChakra · 25/02/2019 16:40

Your stash is safe from me Autumn crow Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2019 17:25

I love anchovies! I need an urgent visit.

MintyCedric · 25/02/2019 18:22

I have also bought some flan bases, quick setting jelly in sachets (it used to be branded Quick-Jel) and some tinned mandarin segments.

Brilliant idea! I was eyeing up my tinned fruit stash last night and wondering what the chances were of me getting any of it past DD!

AutumnCrow · 25/02/2019 18:36

Anchovies are brilliant on pizzas. I make my own pizza sauce thingy (marinara) out of our homegrown tomatoes and freeze it.

bellinisurge · 25/02/2019 19:07

I love anchovies too. Pasta puttanesca; pizza- all big favourites
