Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

Long term lurker here, been reading these threads for a few weeks now, never considered prepping before this shitshow so thank you for all your helpful comments over the last few weeks! My partner thinks I am crazy and all will be well other than a small delay at the beginning of April and that if SHTF we can just bulk buy flour, eggs and sugar and live off pancakes for a week or two Hmm (I just bought that pancake mix that someone posted that just uses water so thanks for that!)

Have a few Brexit boxes of essentials and treats stored out in a outdoor cupboard out of sight. Only issue is trying to get my daughter's asthma steroids built up on such short notice, inhalers are easier but they only give out a months steroids at a time. It is insane that I am having to stress over this!

LightAsTheBreeze · 15/02/2019 10:41

Is the water going off then, I must say I thought we were leaving the EU, not under terrorist attack, though I suppose that could happen anytime, best to be prepared.

We always have those purification tablets anyway as DH uses them but I think they are a bit chloriney, or maybe just the ones he has are.

LightAsTheBreeze · 15/02/2019 10:56

Just looked at the water thing and it is the chemicals that will run out so the water will be turned off. we have 3 waterbutts anyway so hopefully it will rain and we have enough clothes to last months so could go for weeks without doing a wash.

PreppaPig · 15/02/2019 10:58

As I said, problems with the water supply are unlikely, but possible, therefore I'd rather be prepared by having some bottled water in the house.

If it all kicks off, I don't want to be out among the rioting hordes with the army distributing bottled water. Better to keep your head down indoors.

If you have any suitable containers or bottles you can fill them from the tap now, but I'd rotate and refresh them often.

This is why it's important to have some "ready to eat" food as well as your dried pasta, rice etc, incase there are water shortages.

But again as I said, it's unlikely so don't go getting stressed about it. A few bottles of water in the house makes sense if you are prepping.

Just been to our local Morrisons in a town with lots of E European and Indian subcontinent immigrants (Leave voting town, surprise surprise). Loads of 3 for £2 offers on tinned pulses. And 2for £1 offer on dried pulses. As well as lots of goodies in the Polish section.

Dinsey70 · 15/02/2019 12:53

@PrawnOfCreation

We're just to our second bag. First one lasted us about 8 months. Soooooo easy to use, don't over mix it will still give fluffy pancakes.

JurassicGirl · 15/02/2019 13:48

I've added to mine over the last week, it's all stored in small cardboard boxes either stacked on top of the kitchen cupboards or tucked away in the garage. Because of this it's tricky to know exactly what I've got.

I started off doing the '3 days supply' which was a great start but then started doing things like buying 8 tins of coconut milk & 20kg of dog food!

We've tried some new meals (using long life items) over the last month & have been pretty successful so stocking up on those.

I bought a tin of brussel sprouts in B&M but haven't had the courage to open them yet Grin DH can't wait lol.

JurassicGirl · 15/02/2019 13:55

Re: water, when we wrre on holiday & had to buy all our water we got through about 5L a day (2 adults & 3 children) That covered cooking & drinking but we did also drink juice & lemonade.

I'm thinking about buying two or three 5L next month.

IDoN0tCare · 15/02/2019 13:56

I bought a tin of brussel sprouts in B&M

TINNED BRUSSEL SPROUTS!!! Shock

I love fresh sprouts, but frozen ones give me terrible wind. I can’t imagine the effect tinned ones would have on my bowels!! Blush

AutumnCrow · 15/02/2019 13:59

I bought some pearl barley yesterday to practice making rissoles out of scraps (meat and vegetables, basically, mixed with pearl barley).

I loved them as a child and teenager for some reason.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2019 14:01
Envy
OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2019 14:01

that was to the tinned brussels sprouts. I love pearl barley.

bellinisurge · 15/02/2019 14:05

I would fry up tinned Brussels sprouts with bacon. Because everything is better with bacon. If you aren't a vegetarian.
I have been doing my mum's old trick of pouring away bacon fat if frying bacon and saving it in a jar to keep in the fridge. Bacony deliciousness.

JurassicGirl · 15/02/2019 14:06

IDoN0tCare Shock - that was the face I pulled in the shop lol

I love fresh & don't mind frozen (pretty good in curry) but not sure what to do with these.

I'll report back when I've tried them Grin

JurassicGirl · 15/02/2019 14:07

I am vegetarian Bellini Grin

bellinisurge · 15/02/2019 14:11

Do you eat dairy, @JurassicGirl ? Because colcalnnon - greens and mashed potatoes mashed more with butter - is also an option.

bellinisurge · 15/02/2019 14:27

I would probably experiment with nut or oat milk colcannon if dairy wasn't an option. Just an idea.

JurassicGirl · 15/02/2019 14:37

I'm dairy free too Bellini but vitalite works great with mash.

Colcannon is a good idea, it's made think of bubble & squeak too. The kids like bubble & squeak with sausages & baked beans.

I've been buying extras for a few months now after reading many articles about where in the EU our food comes from, the likely delays at the border and price increases. Its made me build a pantry in my cupboard that I've wanted to do for years, if nothing happens then great I won't have to buy anything for months, but if this no deal has food shortages I'm happy to be able to feed us and our children.

When I wrote a list of the items in each room we use every day plus food it's surprising how much we rely on. Nappies, wipes, formula and baby paracetamol were at the top of my list those are items I do not want to run out of plus will likely go up in price so I bought a few months worth. Fruit and vegetables are the biggest threat as it goes off easily so I've filled a freezer with those plus tinned versions too, we love our fruit and vegetables. I am very worried about being able to get my daughters medications though. I would rather advance purchase now a few months worth of everything we use while shelves are still full than wait until mid March when everyone suddenly starts panic buying.

IDoN0tCare · 15/02/2019 16:07

I'll report back when I've tried them Grin good luck. 🤞 Please don5 eat them over a candle lite dinner. We might never hear from you again. 💨 🕯 💥

Dinsey70 · 15/02/2019 16:22

I have
about 90 toilet rolls
Rice
6 boxes of cereal
Pasta
16 tins of Heinz Beans
10 tins various soups
4 tins custard
4 tins rice pudding
About 24 tins of chopped tomatoes (we use a couple of tins a week at least)
About 6 tins sweetcorn
6 jars coffee
6 jars decaf coffee
1 bag sugar
Bread flour and dried yeast
Couple of packets of 'instant' bread mix
2 Fray Bentos pies
3 tins meatballs in sauce
4 tins peas
2 tins mushy peas
2 tins potato
2 tins macaroni chees
2 tins heinz spaghetti
4 jars hot dogs
2 jars curry sauce
6 Jars Pasta Sauce
3 packs supernoodles
3 packs instant mac and cheese things
Porridge
Squash
18ltrs UHT (yuck)
Paracetamol and Ibuprofen
2 tub things of washing pods
and a full fridge freezer.

I've tried to just get the tinned/dry version of food we eat anyway. Plus dried herbs and spices to add in more flavour.

I live in a village with limited public transport so if there are fuel problems (although if rationed I should still be able to get some as I'm an essential worker) the local Co-op will struggle as it did last winter.

We are the house of illness this week so it has been nice to not have to worry about getting food in.

Dinsey70 · 15/02/2019 16:24

Plan is eat fresh version, then frozen, then tinned/dried.

Then we go hunting Grin

BlackeyedGruesome · 15/02/2019 17:21

I am wondering whether we will be reviving the dig for victory mentality. I hope to plant beans and potatoes at my mum's and let them get on with it. If the worst comes to the worst and we can not drive up there, her neighbours can have some payback for looking out for her when she was at home.

Her house really needs modernising to live in longer term. It is freezing cold most of the year.

bellinisurge · 15/02/2019 17:49

Hot water bottles , electric blanket, wool blankets - that kind of thing for your mum. Not a Brexit thing, a general thing.
Will the Council replace her boiler? Mine did for my Mum.

SparklySneakers · 15/02/2019 18:35

I've tested out the little pots of ready made angel delight today and they are a hit with me and the smallest one so will get more of those.
Waitrose have emailed me another £20 voucher so I'll be making good use of that Smile I need another plastic box and lid as the two I have are full. Toiletries are in the bathrooms. Need more food storage.
