Westminstenders: Waiting for Sanity

We could be waiting a long time, but that's what we have to wait for as that's what the EU is waiting for.

The EU has requested we expand on our plans for 'alternative arrangements' with regard to the backstop.

We need to do so before the next HoC vote on 14th Feb. The EU see no point in shifting their position before than. And the UK will struggle to provide the info the EU want before then. So there is now some doubt as to whether the vote will go ahead as planned.

About a third of the Cabinet now believe that Brexit will have to be delayed due to legislation not being ready for exit date. However we don't have power over this and we might still exit without it.

There is no Brexit related business next week in the HoC to prevent pesky amendments. The recess has been cancelled but MPs have been told its OK to go on their ski holidays so it's just a PR stunt.

Meanwhile No Deal is in full effect as businesses trigger their exit strategy in the absence of certainty. No Deal is reality for many even if we do have a last minute deal...

We are all about to get poorer. As that's what we voted for.

{I'm keeping all of them indoors as I kill anything as soon as it leaves the house grin or maybe it just chooses to stop living...either way I have flourishing greenery indoors and multiple sticks ex bushes/roses/wisteria in the garden hmm}

It's not you Lonely, it's May's 'hostile environment'.

Quietrebel · 03/02/2019 09:02

The UK will be in a worse position than Puerto Rico.

Yes indeed... what I'm really praying for is that we don't end up like Pinochet's Chile.

Cedilla · 03/02/2019 09:03

Bye hun!

Cedilla · 03/02/2019 09:04

(That was to the delightful Maryjoyce obvs)

Mistigri · 03/02/2019 09:05

What would a run on the banks look like today though?

Same as it's always looked like.

People rely on electronic payment methods and hold minimal cash because they are confident that their money is safe held in the form of zeros and ones in a bank computer system.

Take away that confidence and they will want to hold cash.

@Maryjoyce seeing as you voted for no deal apparently knowing and accepting whatever that may look like, it's only fair that you promise not to prepare in any way and if there are food/medication shortages, stand aside and let those who desperately don't want this have first dibs.

Seeing as you don't give a shit about those of us who are worried about the actual lives of our family members who are in precarious situations, I will reciprocate and not give a shit about anyone who at this late stage still think we should continue along this path.

I actually think if there is a second PV (unlikely) with no deal on the ballot, there should be a disclaimer that anyone selecting this option relinquishes any right to any help required due to the subsequent fallout.

If those agitating for it are so sure it will be fine, they shouldn't have any problem with that.

Violetparis · 03/02/2019 09:07

I read the Opinium Poll with a big Labour loss as Labour leavers rejecting them after this weeks votes. If there had been a big increase to the Lib Dems I would have assumed it was a Remain vote rejection. There was a Survation poll done around the same time showing Labour one percentage point ahead of the Tories so who knows what is really going on.

1tisILeClerc · 03/02/2019 09:09

If Williamson really said that, you can add him to the 'stupid' list.
He has obviously never tried to get a whole 3 piece suite into a Ford Ka.
The Navy doesn't have RoRo ferries and any craft remotely suitable would not 'mate' with existing ramp arrangements. Tanks and other military vehicles may be happy with a beach landing, but a truck with 40 tonnes of veg won't.

Maryjoyce · 03/02/2019 09:11

Very wrong lady of sheep
We all voted for our own reasons as there was only the option to leave or remain nothing more complicated.
So we all had our own reasons behind why we choose to vote either way.
I voted to leave nothing more complicated.
I didn’t vote to leave with deals that kept us controlled by the EU paying them and getting no say.
I voted to leave the parasites.
So whether it was called no deal or not at the time I voted for no deals.
As I pointed out on the other post leave means leave
It means if not too complicated for you in the dictionary

Depart from permanently

Maryjoyce · 03/02/2019 09:11

Little. I am not preparing in any way I see no need

Maryjoyce · 03/02/2019 09:13

If your happy worrying over a load of scare stories and are happy building up your stock pile do it. Though by doing so all you do is ultimately cause the shortages anyway

Maryjoyce · 03/02/2019 09:15

Itis. You have obviously never travelled very far in the world

PostNotInHaste · 03/02/2019 09:15

Love it when people like Maryjoyce pop up as a sign that people are getting rattled by these threads. So current tactic to say RTB a journalist. Haveva lovely day out Maryjoyce, thanks for brightening up my day.

Maryjoyce · 03/02/2019 09:19

Not just said that red is a journo I’ve said many times in the past as pretty obvious she or he is.

Maryjoyce · 03/02/2019 09:20

Don’t rattle me I just see as a pointless thing to scare people if there scared more but as to me it makes no difference I’m happy we’re not far away now.
Well I hope nothing messes up the 29th leave anyway

Apileofballyhoo · 03/02/2019 09:21

Mary do you not think the concerns about food shortages are real?

1tisILeClerc · 03/02/2019 09:21

{So we all had our own reasons behind why we choose to vote either way.
I voted to leave nothing more complicated.}
So can we conclude from this that Maryjoyce lives on a small primitive desert island somewhere that has food literally hanging off the trees and bushes and so 'leaving' is as simple as wandering a couple of miles from her 'place' to find a different place.
While some very small places like this may exist, the UK is in a fantastically complicated arrangement with all other countries of the world (not just the EU) and EVERY aspect will be disrupted in some way or other.
The necessary discussions to disentangle the UK will take 5 years probably more.

Maryjoyce · 03/02/2019 09:21

If there scared already I mean

Alltheprettyseahorses · 03/02/2019 09:23

Speaking of crystal balls, why would someone vote Leave in 2016 for the specific purpose of leaving with No Deal when No Deal wasn't even a thing back then?

LonelyandTiredandLow · 03/02/2019 09:23

I'm confident Mary fully expects nothing to change, other than us leaving the host and ... well she's not thought that far ahead so no worries.
I'm not sure she realises that UK is the parasite here either. 'Subsidies' and 'largest successful trading block' are two terms that have sadly been omitted from her vocab, presumably due to her busy schedule.
I'd like to wager they have been substituted for "they need us more than we need them" and "we will be fine, we were fine in the wars"

Peregrina · 03/02/2019 09:24

I concluded that Maryjoyce voted for a pig in a poke. If there is a shortage of food, she will be saying, oh good, this is what I voted for. Shortage of medicines - oh good. Loses her job - oh good, this is what I want. Somehow I don't think we will see her on these threads if anything like that does happen.
