Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

I read about a couple who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by opening and eating a tin of chicken they'd received as a wedding gift! So 2016 steamed pud will definitely be okay.

Jens303 · 28/01/2019 18:16

Screamish - no, I wasn’t one of the naysayers.

I feel the need to challenge them personally because it’s totally unnecessary to start calling people a fuckwit & hurling personal insults. I won’t just stand buy & be bullied.

HoliestGoat · 28/01/2019 18:16

Most horrifying thought about this? That the definition of smug might change post 29 March to:

SMUG: Brexiteer observing their supermarket didn't run out of groundhog/tinned tomatoes/Californian wine on 29 March.

Of course totally omitting to notice reports of 'UK records all-time low demand for groundhog/tinned tomatoes/Californian wine due to the 3 billion tonnes of the aforementioned already safely stored in Anymom's husband's cupboard!

PerverseConverse · 28/01/2019 18:16

I've just noticed the dishwasher tablets I buy from Asda (own label) are made in the EU do I'll be getting extra of those.

@Jens303
1124 from on the original cupboard post:
"seems a bit over the top to me, most shortages are caused by people crazily stockpilling stuff like this. Are you honestly telling me the UK will starve if we have a no deal? Do we not have farmers & fishermen in this country?"

You didn't exactly sound like you're pro-preparedness, did you now?

Bullied!!Grin

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2019 18:26

Damn good strategy, I must say.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2019 18:27

noooooo!!!!!!!!!! I havent had chance to go to morrisons yet. bollocks.

I'll just have to hope for electricity and make microwave ones instead.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2019 18:28

talking about tinned puddings btw.

Jens303 · 28/01/2019 18:29

Do I sound like i’m a naysayers though? Or deserve being insulted for that?

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2019 18:29

Who are you calling a pudding, madam?

cloudtree · 28/01/2019 18:32

Looks like Iceland have at some stage stocked the simpsons tinned puddings. It comes up if you google. Might be worth popping in if there's one locally.

StoorieHoose · 28/01/2019 18:33

Yes I think your original post sounds like naysaying Jens

blibblibs · 28/01/2019 18:35

Ooh, I'm going to morrisons tomorrow for peanut butter so will look out for them, and have to go past an Iceland aswell.
They might be my barter food Grin

SalrycLuxx · 28/01/2019 18:38

Do I sound like i’m a naysayers though?

Well...yes. You essentially parroted all the Brexiteers, implied we are all idiots because “surely we produce food in the uk”, and then went on to conflate panic buying with prepping.

Or deserve being insulted for that?

Not really clear what the insult was, so can’t really answer that. But posting that (being points repeatedly countered in very clear language) on a long running thread where the useful people have to contend with a bunch of numpties engaged in drive by slogan spritzing every 5 seconds is never going to end well.

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2019 18:38

But it is a damn good strategy.

Jens303 · 28/01/2019 18:41

Being called a fuckwit was pretty offensive

Jens303 · 28/01/2019 18:44

Also slightly unsure about slogan spritzing?

There was no implying anyone is an idiot, I was under the impression we produced enough, no idea that we wouldn’t!

Scandaloso · 28/01/2019 18:46

I wish incessant moaning was rationed.

StoorieHoose · 28/01/2019 18:47

But Jens if you had read the thread you would have found that out before you posted

TheElementsSong · 28/01/2019 18:47

To get back on the rails of the actual topic, what do we think about tinned potatoes? I've always thought they were a bit slimy and weird, but I've seen it suggested that they're good for mashing up to make fishcakes.

Also, what was the brand of instant mash that was mentioned before? The DC have only had instant mash once (in a caff), they could tell it wasn't "proper" mash and didn't like it, but I hope some brands are more realistic?

Scandaloso · 28/01/2019 18:48

Elements I've never tried them myself but am planning on buying a few tins as lots of people swear by them in a curry.

Buteo · 28/01/2019 18:49

Tinned potatoes are good for bulking out a curry?

bluescreen · 28/01/2019 18:51

A pp on this or the earlier thread talked of freezing mashed potato, which had never occurred to me. Anyone else ever tried it? Seems a rather extravagant use of freezer space, but maybe not if you use the library method.

yesimthistired · 28/01/2019 18:52

I think there's better use for limited freezer space really. Unless you have a few spare ones!
