Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

Bookmarked it, thank you!

today I've finally made a start on my brexit garden again. I've discovered a random healthy celery and kale plant that have survived winter and a bit of cabbage left, I accidentally got a pack of spinach seeds wet and they'd started sprouting so have had to plant them not sure they will make it though, chitting the potatoes and planted 67 garlic using square foot gardening method. Tommorrow will be starting off some seeds inside. :)

bellinisurge · 12/02/2019 20:10

Your spinach will do just fine. Maybe a bit of protection if it gets cold but it is generally brilliant for being ignored.Grin

wildchild554 · 12/02/2019 20:18

I'm not very green fingered though and kill lots lol
still get nice harvests though

captainjackandjill · 12/02/2019 20:42

Appreciate the Socca recipe!

On another Brexit thread there was a bread that someone suggested that began with a P. You mixed together basic ingredients and then split it into four sections and pan fried. It sounded great, so I wrote the name down, but somehow managed to lose it. Does anyone remember the name or could point me to the thread, I can't remember which one it was on and my searches have been fruitless.

Epanoui · 12/02/2019 20:56

Paratha?

captainjackandjill · 12/02/2019 21:19

Thank you @Epanoui I think that's the one!Smile

I've snuck extra things into my mum's stash today: anti bacterial spray, crackers, bottled water, fruit juices, crisps, chocolate.

I think I’ve caught up with the threads. My larder and freezer are healthier than I thought but 12 bananas in the freezer might be a touch excessive so I’ll be baking banana bread at the weekend. It freezes incredibly well! Apart from the odd bits that had to go, I have plenty of chicken, sausages and mince in and space to put some batch cooking now.

The shelves, fruit and vegetables need serious work as I usually buy all those fresh. But there’s also fruit in the freezer and much rumtopf from Christmas.

Also toiletries as I’ve let them run down a bit over the last year after comments from DM about hoarding! Must not listen next time!! I do however have 40 toilet rolls from the recent Costco shop. And a pannetonne!

BlackeyedGruesome · 12/02/2019 22:54

I have added crackers and some nuts to my stash. Cream crackers dated 2020. Topped up tinned tomatoes, fruit juice and soya milk. Got AA batteries but not AAA. It was clearly a forward purchase shop. Just hope the staff of Aldi don't know where I live. Grin

Detergent and bottles of drinks in the garage.

There still seems so much to do and only a couple of weeks, one of those being half term, when they descend like locusts on my cupboard. It feels like getting ready for the big summer holidays.

wildchild554 · 13/02/2019 17:13

Must admit feel a little paranoid of the curtain twitches on my street and what they must be thinking few weeks ago 3 deliveries from 3 different supermarkets over 2 days. One the days I spotted one starring across the street whilst I took in my order. On the upside a friend picked up the 20l of milk i ordered for her and think she saw that too lol :')

AdoraBell · 13/02/2019 17:47

wild when the curtain twitchers ask, which they are probably desperate to do, tell them you are expecting dozens of visitors.

I ordered a load of canned fruit when it was on offer and the delivery guy commented that I do lots of baking. I don’t, but I said - Oh yes, and family are visiting.

SparklySneakers · 13/02/2019 18:14

I had to point out to my mum today that she is NOT to eat her stash and is to pretend it is not there. Seems she was thinking her small stash means she doesn't need to go shopping for a while 😩 I've organised her cupboard as she was convinced she couldn't fit anything else in there. There was HALF the cupboard left so she's plenty of room! I'll just keep picking her the odd thing up when I go shopping. She has always bought small everything despite it not being economical. Has taken me years to get her to buy loo roll in packs of more than 4 rolls. Toothpaste is an ongoing battle. She was part amused part horrified when I got her 420 Tetley tea bags Grin I promised my dad when he was dying that I'd look after mum and this is one way I can do it. She'll be 80 this year, fully independent but I feel better watching out for her well-being and she helps me out too. She's the only person I'll share my stash of treats with Smile

wildchild554 · 13/02/2019 18:19

@AdoraBell the delivery guys are easy as the orders are over different places and only 20l nut milk which would only last a month anyone and always say i have oa so can get a bit of help with the shopping otherwise in agony afterwards. They put it on table which is easier on my back than on the floor and i unload. But unfortunately I don't really have visitors and never more than 2 so she'd probably no i was lying lol

bellinisurge · 13/02/2019 18:44

SparklySneakers , sounds like you have a good strategy with your Mum. A bit of "this is what Dad wanted me to do" , a bit of "you can be more independent " and a sprinkling of "this saves you money" plus a dash of " it would put my mind at rest so humour me".
I'm a veteran of elderly parents and this is generally the way Smile

bluechameleon · 13/02/2019 23:18

My current priority is to make the most of the freezer. I'm trying to use up things that take up too much space or are random odds and ends. I will use the extra space created for protein and vegetables that DS1 will eat as he is the most problematic. So tonight we all ate different combinations of sausages, meatballs, beetroot rostis and pork burgers. A few more meals like that and we'll be grand!

KatyMac · 13/02/2019 23:32

I've been freezing things individually (so we take out how many we need rather than how many in the pack) then packing in boxes (so they stack better)

So if we only need 2 sausages we only use 2 sausages

Plus I think the meat trays waste a lot of space

& we are finishing all sorts of odds and sods too!

BlackeyedGruesome · 13/02/2019 23:45

Ds is getting a lot of ice-cream! Yet to sort the freezer. I want to prioritise veg but it is pretty full already. I have been considering a table top freezer for frozen veg.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/02/2019 06:00

I've got a rather obvious forward purchasing order coming on pay day. But I'm also having shoulder surgery the next day, so I'll just say I'm stocking up because of that, which will hopefully put them of the scent. If they see me again in the next 6 weeks or so I'll be in a sling, so it's not a lie exactly!

bellinisurge · 14/02/2019 06:12

Hope the shoulder surgery goes well

NoWordForFluffy · 14/02/2019 08:29

Thank you; so do I, as I'm fed up now!

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/02/2019 11:42

Good luck with surgery. Hope it goes well and fixes the problem.

Just having a rest from corralling the understairs cupboard. 8 bottles of squash stored as I remember the no CO2 induced shortages leaving us eeking out the only squash ds will drink in the hottest summer since 1976... And having just enough because I bulk buy before school holidays as well, what with not wanting to take autistic children to the supermarket if it can be at all helped.

Topped up the tinned carrots while I was shopping too, plus kids toothbrushes that were on offer. The bulk buys from last time are back to original price so I am pleased I bought quite a few last month. Saved about £20 on half price stuff.

I have also bought ds hoodies in ever increasing sizes in his favourite colour though this is an autism thing. Check out operator already knows ds is autistic so I blamed his food choices for the fifty billionty packs of the same thing.

SparklySneakers · 14/02/2019 11:47

I need to get squat and cereals. What are the dates like on cereals? I got Cheddars crackers delivered yesterday and they only have 8 weeks on them.

SparklySneakers · 14/02/2019 11:48

I bought 32 loo rolls today and walked home with them so I probably got some looks although the checkout person made no comment.

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/02/2019 11:48

Sainsbury's do basic chicken curry, probably not much meat, but bought for the sauce to get ds to eat. He has these at his dad's so I am hoping they go down ok. If not, they can go to ex to eat.

Antibac has been topped up as well. I am reducing the number of things I have not got sorted gradually. Freezer is still bothering me. Need to eat up some of the rubbish to replace with veg.
