Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

We made socca today. Pancake type thingy.

1 cup gram flour (chickpea flour)
1 cup water
salt, pepper, dash of olive oil.

Mix batter and leave to stand for at least half an hour on the counter or overnight in fridge.
Heat cast iron skillet in top of a hot oven (gas mk 7)
Add splash of olive oil to pan, tip in batter and bake for 15 mins.

Real street food stuff, tastes like collapsed Yorkshire pudding or Thai street pancakes.
Contains protein and good for GF diets.

BlackeyedGruesome · 09/02/2019 22:30

Falafel: I make with dried soaked chickpeas, chickpea flour, lots of coriander, ( frozen in freezer) onions, garlic, turmeric, cumin, dried coriander, salt.

Hummus is made from tinned chickpeas, and sesame seeds here.

Stash building has been put on hold. EDS fatigue has struck. I need to finish putting away the last lot first. 6 appointments and an extra child activity has wiped me out. Today I have been busting the washing heap. And have broken into the store goods, so need to top up next week.

I still need: domestos, prescription meds, more chopped tomatoes, tinned carrots which go in an EDS exhausted meal so will be well used. I need to sort out the bread flour so I can restock.

unexpectedgifts · 10/02/2019 09:25

@PestyMachtubernahme yum, I'm going to try this ASAP.

PerverseConverse · 10/02/2019 09:33

The children and I are making garlic ciabatta and macaroni cheese today. I've got a ciabatta bread mix and will add garlic butter once baked. I think they are more likely to enjoy the pasta dish if they've made it themselves. Middle dc is pretty restricted and her attitude to food has affected ds who turns his nose up st things now. Dc1 will eat most things luckily.

I've just done a stock take and am now worried my stash won't last that long really. It's a decent buffet but no idea about lunches.

I think there will be food longer term, so I have concentrated on extras to make boring meals less so

So only a week of so of actual food for every meal, then desserts condiments, tasty treats, a few basics just in case and fingers crossed

Who knows if I am right - I imagine carrots, potatoes, cabbage, oats and bread will still be around in reasonable quantities but a bit bland

NopeNi · 10/02/2019 10:50

I just made some of these - freezable for up to a month and lovely for breakfast!

I made those for my early start DH a while ago. He said he liked them which I took for humouring me. Turns out, he really really liked them.
Nice job NopeNi . Hope you enjoy them too.

bluechameleon · 10/02/2019 16:42

I've just come back from Aldi. Got a few bits - shelf stable tortellini, meridian cocoa and peanut butter, fruit bars and chocolate. I also bought some baby yoghurt pouches - I'll see if the children like them and if they do I'll stock up because they seem like a good option for dairy. Oh, and some pea crisps.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/02/2019 17:18

I got 16 loo rolls from Aldi to put under the bed (Brexit storage place - for now; the kids asked me why we have cheesy shapes and Kit Kats under the bed earlier! Grin ). I bought 16 for immediate use too. I'll get another pack before 29 March as well.

I picked up another Pizza Express pizza in Tesco reduced section too to put into the freezer. They're currently £2.50, so it was £1.80, which is a great price. We have a fair number of them in the freezer now. 😁

Pancakes with gram flour Pesty? You utter genius 👍 I’m sensitive to gluten so I’ll give that one a whirl.

PestyMachtubernahme · 10/02/2019 20:10

Adora for gluten free flours, check out Shipton Mill www.shipton-mill.com/flour-direct-shop/flour/non-wheat-gluten-free-flours have been to visit, am impressed by the hygiene and separation of GF and non GF. Plus they have chestnut flour Shock

DM and DSis were coeliacs, DD is one. Much as I love bread making, contamination risk is too great. So we are all a bit GF.

NoraButty · 10/02/2019 21:43

I really fancy making that Socca recipe, thanks Pesty

Brexit aside, I’m seeing the benefit in forward purchasing. Now that we’ve got a nice stacked food cupboard ive not been having to nip to the expensive village shop for ‘missing’ ingredients. Also, I’ve been paying more attention to price per unit which has gone some way to buffer the cost of buying in extra.

PerverseConverse · 11/02/2019 10:41

I can't believe I've just ordered a load of bottled water.

mystakenidentity · 11/02/2019 13:57

I can't believe I have ordered purification tablets.Usually DH is the sensible one and I catastrophise but on this occasion he volunteered to buy forward purchase 100kg of dog food.

RhubarbCrumbled · 11/02/2019 16:33

I'm a bit behind on these threads but have started my Brexit cupboard (well, shelves in the cellar and freezer!)

I'm also concerned about cash and banks not working properly. How much are people keeping around the house just in case?

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 16:35

There's a thread on this you might find interesting

Thank you @belinisurge. And for all the other marvellous advice!

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 16:57

You're welcome @RhubarbCrumbled .

AutumnCrow · 11/02/2019 18:05

I finally bought some gnocchi today, best before 12/19. I don't think it's going to see 65p a pack again any time soon.

NopeNi · 11/02/2019 18:10

Thank you Bellini!

I snuck some spinach in there, which I really don't like, but I can't tell it's there, so for me that's another food group I can now manage. Smile

DH was dubious but then loved them when he tried one, I'm going to make another batch later and freeze them again!

bellinisurge · 11/02/2019 18:13

You're welcome

wowfudge · 11/02/2019 19:18

Tesco have whole chickens for £2.70. I bought the biggest one I could see which was just over 3lbs in weight. Straight into the freezer.

BlueEyeshadow · 12/02/2019 14:41

On the subject of vegan cake, I made this egg free, dairy free and nut free chocolate cake the other day because Son2 is lactose intolerant and we'd run out of eggs. It was amazing!

Epanoui · 12/02/2019 14:42

I've made that recipe and it is really good! Made it for a birthday party where we had a guest who was allergic to everything.
