Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

I don’t drink cows milk but prefer soya- you find it with long life and uht- it doesn’t even need refrigeration when open. So purchase 10 cartons of unsweetened and store in wardrobe or cupboards

PerverseConverse · 03/02/2019 10:49

SUN CREAM. I'm going to get some as soon as it's on offer as we get through a lot and are all fair so burn easily.

I've tried the uht milk I bought from Asda (semi-skimmed) and it's a lot nicer tasting than it used to be.

Compared to crisps a pack of popping corn is very space saving. (If the kids like popcorn of course!)

PerverseConverse · 03/02/2019 11:55

We all love popcorn and have a popcorn maker too. How do you get it lovely and sweet though?

If you have a first aid kit, what is in it? I'm collecting things and so far have:
Large sterile dressing small sterile dressings
Blister plasters
Washproof plasters
Micropore tape
Calpol

I have an extensive range of drugs in my drug boxes for me but do worry about running out of lansoprazole. I'm going to email my GP and see if they'll prescribe more as currently don't last a month anyway.

@PerverseConverse - cinnamon sugar tossed around freshly popped corn? I hate sweet popcorn but my dd loves it. That's what do do. I have a jar or homemade cinnamon sugar which is basically me chucking some cinnamon in a jar of sugar.

prettybird · 03/02/2019 12:56

Perverse - you've reminded me to stock up on suncream. The stuff we like (Ultrasun) is Swiss Sad

ivykaty44 · 03/02/2019 12:58

Chinese 5 spice over popcorn - tiny amount sprinkled is tasty

Tobythecat · 03/02/2019 13:31

Even with a deal, will prices still rise?
Im wondering if its worth stocking up on things like jam, custard, nutella. Currently a nice jar of ASDA conserve is 94p. How likely is it to increase in price to something like 1.40, or is it likely to be something like £1.10?

cloudtree · 03/02/2019 13:31

I started a thread last week in the preppier topic on first aid boxes which has a good list on it.

TheMammothHunters · 03/02/2019 13:32

You can buy lanzoprazole, omeprazole and ranitidine over the counter. Might be a bit expensive but worth it for an extra stash?
I’m starting to think about treats and decided to go for Aldi one version of pringles as they’ll take up less room. I have a few packets of biscuits and a tin of chocolates but going to stock up a bit more.

mum2jakie · 03/02/2019 13:33

I'm stocking up in anticipation of food price rises regardless of what happens at the end of March. Prices certainly aren't going to go down.

Myusernameismud · 03/02/2019 13:48

You can't buy omeprazole OTC, I've tried!

Myusernameismud · 03/02/2019 13:50

I take that back, you can buy it OTC. The pharmacist at sainos is a liar!

TheMammothHunters · 03/02/2019 13:53

However the BNF doesn’t mention it can be bought OTC but it does with ranitidine.

MadauntofA · 03/02/2019 14:00

Ironically you can buy these and many more medications OTC in other European countries!

PerverseConverse · 03/02/2019 14:01

The OTC doses are not the same. Lansoprazole is sole in 15mg so I'd need 4 a day to keep me pain free. Omeprazole is sold in 10mg whereas the normal dose is 20mg. Ranitidine didn't work for me. I have a stash of it as was swapped to Lansoprazole before I'd used it all.

AutumnCrow · 03/02/2019 14:09

Yy, OTC ranitidine is very low dose. DP has it on prescription so will try to order ahead of time.

I've bought some co-codamol.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/02/2019 16:10

well, I have just aquired the long awaited dried chick peas and can now make falafal again and put one by in my forward purchasing cupboard,, bought more black turtle beans as we like those a lot, pearl barley, dried cannelinni beans as I have none of those at the moment, a couple of tins of fruit.

I am still woefully short of long life veg. going to see if I can organise the freezer a bit more next week. In the mean time I need lunch and to do a ton of washing, and pput away the food.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/02/2019 17:14

I don't know whether to use this thread or the other, so I keep getting muddled as to what I said where.

I've been having a really good sort out today. Aching in lots of places. Anyway, I asked dh to come and critique our brexit food. He's pretty senior in his work role - has his head screwed on very well, doesn't get anxious at all.

I expected him to react in a 'there there if it makes you feel better way' as I'd got the feeling he was tolderating what might be a temporary outbreak of insanity.

Instead, he made suggestions as to additions that he thought we needed. He's taking it as seriously as I am. This is both comforting and rather alarming at the same time. So additional tomatoes, couscous, pasta and treats like biscuits are going on the list.

Popcorn is a really good idea!

dh has also started making more wine Confused so brexit wake at my house everyone!

bellinisurge · 03/02/2019 17:17

I'm glad your dh is on board. That helps. As does 🍷

AutumnCrow · 03/02/2019 17:19

I'm making wine, Kitten, and DP is brewing beer. We'll go down fighting drunk, he reckons.

I'm focusing on medications as well. Skin stuff especially, in case I get a flare up.

PerverseConverse · 03/02/2019 17:20

Don't worry, any repeating of ourselves will be put down to brexit anxiety and excused or else we just won't notice as we will all be doing it!

Bonne Maman wild blueberry preserve is on my "to get" list. It's e pensive stuff so a treat anyway never mind when it's over £4 a jar after brexit

DH rolls his eyes a lot, particularly in front of the DSs but actually he is taking it seriously. He's made a few suggestions and he immediately agreed at Christmas when I suggested another freezer.

I'm feeling more comforted by the freezer stash than the cupboard stash. I know some of it could be lost if we had a prolonged power cut but the food in the freezer seems a lot less alien than the tins.

I had a big egg sort out this afternoon. We had a lot of eggs since my hens are still laying every day for some reason. So I now have 5 bags containing 8 eggs each in the freezer. 8 eggs will make a large quiche which will form the basis of 2 x lunches for 4 of us.
