Following on from the fantastic thread of the weekend, I thought we'd continue discussing our brexit cupboards and boxes here. Here's to all the preppers and their cupboards, no matter what they contain. (Keep quiet about your stash in real life).

Capricornandproud the food will keep flowing into the country until we exit the EU so plenty of time to get your store cupboard filled up for the two of you. I'm afraid I don't know anything about car insurance but I'd be surprised if anything is cheaper in Brexit Britain.

Spaghetticarbanana · 29/01/2019 21:48

The local fruit/veg/bargains warehouse has a great deal on eggs this week (I've already got 60 in my kitchen) so I might give freezing a try. I don't think I have an ice cube tray big enough for an egg... oh but I've got silicone cupcake cases!

Scandaloso · 29/01/2019 21:50

Or you can just freeze them in a freezer bag, that would take up less space. Just remember to label the bag as to how many eggs the bag contains.

BobDobbs · 29/01/2019 21:53

I'm aiming to store a month's worth of food. Mostly tins and packets because our freezer is tiny. The children are basically going to live off baked beans if the worst comes to the worst.

I have dug out my bread maker and have been stocking up on bread mix, and I'm trialling some long life milk.

Thanks for the reminder to get some cash out, although I imagine the problem will be that there isn't anything to buy.

I've seen some comments about storing water, is there any reason why the water would be cut off? We would need to store a lot and we don't have room (and dp would think I've finally flipped)

You can freeze Jamaican ginger cake, best to slice it first. Probs get more portions of that to go with custard than from a tinned sponge pudding.

Lidl do some really good tablet sweeteners. They’re in a white and red dispenser 1200 tabs for about £1.70. My husband can’t tell the difference between those and sugar in his tea. I use them in tea, coffee and porridge. Just thinking they’d take up less room than stocking up on sugar for brews.

We're spending this evening comparing the relative comfort value of various biscuits, to decide which ones become Brexit Biscuits.

Scandaloso · 29/01/2019 22:12

Hot ginger bread and custard! Forgot how much I love that combo Grin

Theworldisfullofgs · 29/01/2019 22:13

Make flapjack. Filling and gorgeous. (Oats, condensed milk, sugar, butter, golden syrup)

Seeingadistance · 29/01/2019 22:14

Yes to having cash in the house.

I'll going to get some petrol in as well. I'll fill the jerry can I have in the garage for the petrol lawnmower, and either let the grass grow or use the electric mower instead.

Scandaloso · 29/01/2019 22:16

Theworldisfullofgs I bought my flapjack ingredients today! I adore the MN flapjack recipe and thought it'd be better for me to have one of those a day rather than rage munching Double Deckers!

cloudtree · 29/01/2019 22:34

Lovely but very expensive to make when you add up the cost of those ingredients.Sad it’s sad that it’s so expensive to bake now and likely get even more so.

I'm not sure if anyone has told you

We are ENGLAND, and we grow veg, have chickens n eggs, we have plenty of cows, pigs, ducks, geese, horse (taste quite nice and was normal until around the 50/60s) sheep.

We make cars, lorry's, petrol/diesel. We even have our own power.

We have workers n farmers, and construction workers, factory workers, designers, all some if the greatest in the WORLD.

Why on god's planet do we need to worry. We even brew our own beer and wine!

All this is, is SCAREMONGERING, nothing less than.

macblank · 29/01/2019 22:50

PS...

If life is going great to be so shit suddenly in 3 months.... Why oh why, are they still trying to seek in?

Scandaloso · 29/01/2019 22:54

I think you're up past your bedtime. Off you toddle.

Scandaloso · 29/01/2019 22:55

'We are ENGLAND'

Brexit in a nutshell. English nationalism.

PerverseConverse · 29/01/2019 22:57

Well someone's been at the Brexit Kool-Aid Confused

Please don’t forget essential toiletries. No point risking a packed supermarket if you don’t have to.

Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Sanitary products
Bleach
Disinfectant
Washing powder
Dishwasher tablets (if you have one)
Tissues
Toilet paper
Soap
Shampoo

These absolute basics should be stocked in all houses.

Basic OTC medicines:

Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Aspirin
Plasters
Bandages
Cough syrup
Sore throat lozenges
Calpol (if you have small ones)
A working thermometer
Antiseptic cream/TCP
antacid tablets/liquid
Anti diarrhoea tablets eg Imodium

It’s time to check your medication stores to make check the expiration dates.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 29/01/2019 23:03

There’s an extraneous make in that last sentence...

Member745520 · 29/01/2019 23:09

Back in the 70s I'd heat up Jamaica ginger cake in the oven and then serve slices topped with tinned cream which had a spoonful of instant coffee beaten in... a favourite pudd with visiting sets of both parents and PIL Smile

PestymcPestFace · 29/01/2019 23:10

We are England UK we only grow 50% of our food.

Bottom line - would you eat grandma?

If not, start prepping.

SustainableOhYes · 29/01/2019 23:11

Jamaica ginger cake, yum.

WickedGoodDoge · 30/01/2019 06:47

Not all of us are in ENGLAND. Hmm

bellinisurge · 30/01/2019 06:59

I think the poster meant Enger-land.
And , shock horror, some of us in England aren't English.

UnnecessaryFennel · 30/01/2019 07:07

Oh bless you Mac. It's so sweet and generous of you to share your insights like that.

GoFiguire · 30/01/2019 07:28

I thought it was ING-Ger-LAN.
