Just a straw poll, I'm really not after a bunfight (although I appreciate I may get one anyway).

How did you vote in the 2016 Referendum, and what is currently your favoured option of the ones available?

You are all deluded if you think it's going to be revoked. That's not an option.

Curious to know why you think it’s not an option.

Mistigri · 25/01/2019 08:54

ECJ ruling says revoke is an option. It might not be a very likely outcome but it's clearly an "option".

1tisILeClerc · 25/01/2019 08:57

{I don’t understand why several people on here who voted remain are now saying they’d rather have WA than revoke. Why?!}

I am taking this from a European perspective:
With many pressures on the EU, it is vital that it remains as cohesive as possible with strong leadership with as few 'internal' distractions as possible.
The UK SHOULD be at the top table with France, Germany, Holland etc as together they have the financial and political stability and common purpose. As the UK has been shown to have a strong Eurosceptic element, say 45% as a wild guess it no longer represents being a good partner within the EU.
The UK leaving the EU will be nothing short of disastrous for the UK as the sunny uplands promised do not exist. However, the UK splitting the EU and causing it's breakup risks being far worse either because it would be ineffective against the USA/China/Russia or possible leading to military conflict within Europe. If this were to happen the UK would be involved in one way or another.
So, if/when the UK leaves and it becomes apparent that the sunny uplands don't exist with the EU remaining 'healthy' there is a possibility of a rescue. The EU is happy to accept the UK as an equal partner but when the UK needs a friend, the USA/China/Russia will treat it as a failed state to be plundered who will be desperate for any scraps that get sent their way.
Currently we ARE the EU, with friends and family among the 500 Million.

MissMalice · 25/01/2019 09:00

Remain - revoke. But not to just carry on as if none of this ever happened - to find out why people voted that way and what we can do with our domestic policy to make it better.

No point leaving the EU for reasons of investment in schools, NHS etc if we’ll have less money in a no deal scenario. No point leaving the EU in the hope of reducing immigration if we’re not going to be reducing it. No point leaving the EU to “regain control” of laws that are already within our control.

BlueJag · 25/01/2019 09:01

Wishing isn't going to change Brexit. The government can't revoke a legal process.

lonelyplanetmum · 25/01/2019 09:01

Remain+Revoke

It's an unbelievable clusterfuck -compared to being a leader at the table of a very successful trading bloc.

BlueJag · 25/01/2019 09:03

@Mistigri of course the do. They want us to stay. They have a vested interest.

CreakyBlinder · 25/01/2019 09:04

Remain. Revoke.

I'll never be on board with harming people to suit an ideological preference.

BlueJag · 25/01/2019 09:05

@lonelyplanetmum is leaders in the EU? When? We have always been the outsiders. France and Germany are supper clicky.

Bluntness100 · 25/01/2019 09:06

And I actually think the WA is OK

Actually it is ok. I work for a very large and critical corporation and our view and nearly that of all critical companies is it's ok. However that doesn't mean it's as good as we have it now, it's not, by a long shot, but it is acceptable.

The government can't revoke a legal process

I don't know what you mean, but legally yes, the government can revoke article 50.

1tisILeClerc · 25/01/2019 09:13

{is leaders in the EU? When? We have always been the outsiders. France and Germany are supper clicky.}
If you chose to believe Daily Fail headlines it might appear that way.
The facts over the last 40+ years will probably tell a different story.
In business the UK are very much insiders and command (ed) a good deal of respect. Some politicians, surrounded by those who don't care to look or think have destroyed so much.

Danglingmod · 25/01/2019 09:14

I'm still interested : do people genuinely think we'll get a different result if we have another referendum? I don't.

Mistigri · 25/01/2019 09:14

Legally revoke is clearly an option, and so far on this thread it's far and away the preferred one (cue the arrival of the leave rapid response team in 3,2,1 Grin).

buckingfrolicks · 25/01/2019 09:21

Remain. Revoke. Revoking would be the only thing to restore my belief in this country's sanity.

buckingfrolicks · 25/01/2019 09:23

I don't believe in referendums.

Bluntness100 · 25/01/2019 09:27

I don't believe in referendums

What do you mean? They are not like unicorns or magic, they are actually a real thing. Confused

Permanentlydisaffected · 25/01/2019 09:29

Remain

Revoke
PV
Norway
Public humiliation of DC in Trafalgar Square involving stocks and raw eggs

No deal doesn't feature in my head, it just can't be allowed to happen

MissMalice · 25/01/2019 09:29

Ooh that’s a good idea. I don’t believe in referendums either. The vote never happened. There’s nothing to revoke.

Galvantula · 25/01/2019 09:37

Remain.

Revoke. I just can't see anything good coming from this mess. The government need to go away and think about it if people really want to leave.

Triggering A50 so quickly was a mistake I think. They were never going to be in a place to leave by now.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/01/2019 09:40

I voted Remain

I want Revoke. I am very torn abut a PV, I don't think a referendum on such an important issue should ever have gone ahead. So I can't really support the idea of another one. Most people (and I include myself here) have little understanding of the intricacies of the UK economy and the role of the EU. I can't see that another vote would help.

BlueJag · 25/01/2019 10:55

I voted to Leave and ND should be an option. I see Leave wasn't on of the options

Sethis · 25/01/2019 11:04

My thoughts:

If we revoke, the leavers will be pissed off, but the economy will survive, and we will still have all the benefits of being a member of the EU.

If we crash out, the remainers will be pissed off, and the economy will be fucked, and we will lose every benefit of being part of the EU.

So given those two options, 50% of the population is going to be pissed off regardless, but surely it's better to take the option that doesn't fuck out economy in addition to that?

frumpety · 25/01/2019 11:07

ND and WA are the leave options Bluejag

Random18 · 25/01/2019 11:08

And with the WA everyone is pissed off.

frumpety · 25/01/2019 11:09

Unless you have a leave option 3 ?
