Westminstenders: Plan B is Plan A again.

The voting starts around 7pm and is expected to finish up between 8pm and 8.20pm.

May is expected to lose. The question is by how much.

We are then expecting an immediate motion of no confidence in the government by Labour to be put forward.

May is expected to make a speech to calm the markets and then go to Brussels for an utterly pointless visit.

The Labour No Confidence is expected tomorrow afternoon after PMQs. Its expected to fail.

We move no closer to a resolution and ever closer to no deal.

Half the Cabinet want to go into cross party talks. Half the Cabinet don't.

May is apparently insistent that Plan B is Plan A. Which is what you would expect her to tell the house to comply with Grieve IV. Which again is bollocks.

But Bercow could yet refuse to indulge it.

If Plan B is Plan A again, then what's Plan C?

Crisis with a Capital C.

The stalemate grows.

BBC Parliament is very interesting. They currently have commentary to explain what is going on.

I have not seen commentary on BBC Parliament before.

I am watching BBC News

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 15/01/2019 19:08

The kids are forcing me to watch the pj masks in the only big screen in the house so I rely on you Westminstenders to keep me informed!

GD12 · 15/01/2019 19:08

We're so f, really, we're f.

BackInTime · 15/01/2019 19:08

It was terrifying how many no dealers there are in the public at large. One relatively articulate man interviewed regurgitated the " No deal is better than this bad deal"

Also terrifying that so many people interviewed on tv and radio today ‘just want to get with it’ regardless of what that means just because they are weary of the whole thing.

Greensleeves · 15/01/2019 19:08

Surely this amendment is meaningless? We don't actually have the right to add a unilateral termination clause to the backstop? So if the deal were to pass with this amendment, we would have ratified an agreement that doesn't exist, and Barnier/Juncker would tell us to do one Confused

ommmward · 15/01/2019 19:09

Is amendment f the one they are voting on? And that's the one that says the backstop would expire at the end of 2021?

Can the house of commons decide that unilaterally? What will Brussels say? (I guess, if the amendment doesn't pass, it's moot...)

ommmward · 15/01/2019 19:09

X-posted with @Greensleeves :) (we are clearly equally confused!)

MissMalice · 15/01/2019 19:09

That’s my understanding too Greensleeves. Although I think there’s something about the Vienna Convention which some people think would give us a mechanism to leave without EU agreement.

Minimammoth · 15/01/2019 19:10

Popcorn thread
Well that’s all we can do now. We have let our MPs know what we think, we may even have gone on demos. But right now all we can do is watch listen and make comments as we feel.

Belindabelle · 15/01/2019 19:10

It won’t pass!

AutumnCrow · 15/01/2019 19:10

What is the point of this amendment? How can it have any teeth, given the WA text?

RedToothBrush · 15/01/2019 19:10

It 'might be her job', but that wasn't my point. It was that she was making that huge speech, which no one was listening to and was just the same as she's said repeatedly over and over like a broken record. She could have had a much shorter speech. Hansard wouldn't have cared.

bellinisurge · 15/01/2019 19:10

Isn't it (please correct me if I'm wrong) a device to claw a few votes for the WA.
And yes, it is bloody meaningless if EU hadn't agreed it but maybe they are hoping for some last minute wriggles from the EUConfused

This commentary is making the whole thing feel like some sort of sporting event

Who is the MP in the bright yellow top and blue skirt? Grin

BiglyBadgers · 15/01/2019 19:17

But I thought the backstop didn't come into effect for 2 years so if they put an end date at 2021 doesn't mean the backstop basically stops existing? In which alternative universe do they think the EU would agree that? Confused

ginpink · 15/01/2019 19:17

I'm so confused what is going on 😭

BoyMeetsWorld · 15/01/2019 19:17

currently watching with two under 11's. Their summary is "This is bad, isn't it?"

Apileofballyhoo · 15/01/2019 19:18

Who is the MP in the bright yellow top and blue skirt?

I don't know but we may as well discuss clothing as what any MP is saying because they are all so bloody useless.

MsForestier · 15/01/2019 19:18

I'm heading into a lecture on medieval history at 7.30 so will probably have to catch up later. What a night.

Sostenueto · 15/01/2019 19:18

The commentators get a 2/10 from me for effort, or rather annoyance.
