Westminstenders: May plays Sale of the Century

Theresa May is currently in the midst of a campaign to sell her deal to the public. Unfortunately she appears that there are only 649 people she needs to sell it to, and that's not going so well.

She attempted a sales pitch to potential Labour rebels and succeeded in getting them to actively decide to vote against her.

There are currently 100 backbench tories who have stated they will vote against it, which makes parliamentary maths very difficult.

There is a rising support for plan b in the form of Norway Plus. This may make Remainers less likely to vote for a deal but persuade some leavers to back May.

The ECJ A50 Court case has been heard. Judgment has not been given yet. Its due 'soon'.

Next week the Withdrawal Agreement will be debated in Parliament with the vote due at 7pm on Tuesday 11th December.

Expect a rough couple of weeks.

With any luck, that twat Yaxley-Lennon will be ignored. He's such a twat even that other twat, Faridge ,doesn't like him.

One of the biggest issue is that there has been no political outlet fir the far right. No party to represent them. They are 'hidden' in the middle of the tories/ukip/ and yes EDL.
So we have no idea how many people they represent. And the right of the far right has been hidden, which also means it hasn't been tackled.,,,

Talkinpeece · 01/12/2018 18:15

Another reason for electoral reform :-)

EtVoilaBrexit · 01/12/2018 18:27

Re the young Syrian refugee.

What i have noticed is that it wasn't the first time. He had his wrist broken because of an attack like this. And that's why he had a plaster..,
So the police and the school taking strong measures?? Nope sorry. The only words that are coming to me are swear words.
Neither if them had the will to actually tackle the issue and I actually fear for this boy and his sister. Would any backlash actually be tackled??

Talkinpeece · 01/12/2018 18:28

Apparently his assailant is the child of a well known local racist thug .....

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2018 18:34

It would be interesting to know if the racist thug belongs to a BNP type group.

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2018 18:36

On a separate note I just want to say I 💗Hilary Benn.

Probably an ignorant question- but Why is he tabling this amendment, presumably with Labour Party sanction and not Kier Starmer?

Its not really relevant TBH.
When I was a kid the NF lads from down the way in Eltham were not in any group
they were just narrow minded little gits
who still expected the "Paki" shop to sell them a newspaper on a Sunday morning

Talkinpeece · 01/12/2018 18:40

Hilary Benn is the Chair of the Brexit Select Committee so can do so in a cross party manner

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2018 18:40

If they belonged to a group that encouraged racist attacks surely there's a crime ( incitement? ) committed by the group too that could be prosecuted?

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2018 18:42

Oh thanks Talk, of course, I thought his select committee role could be something to do with it but I hadn't thought of the cross party aspect.

However surely he has the Party's approval, he isn't being a maverick or pretending to be one?

Talkinpeece · 01/12/2018 19:35

His surname gives him protection
and he knows it

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2018 19:45

It's a good amendment though. I didn't know his main rival for that select committee role was Kate Hoey! Can you imagine.

Also he had a first wife who died of cancer aged just 26. Terrible.

Europarl UK
‏*@EPinUK*

.@thatginamiller: We discovered that a vast swathe of people who would vote for no deal across the country would do so because their perception is that no deal means remaining.

Hazardswan · 01/12/2018 20:03

@Swedish I don't know if that's hilarious or just sad!

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2018 20:10

Yes of the Leavers I know, most are bored with it all, at least 1/3 of those I know seem to think let's not bother giving up EU membership.. it's just too much fuss. Their view is to just leave things as they are and 'go for no deal'. It's a kind of "I don't care if it's no deal then- whatever!"

I tried to explain to one of them who is lovely really, and she just didn't get it and was a bit ' I'm not interested in politics'.

BigChocFrenzy · 01/12/2018 20:52

swedish I'm dubious about what % of people really think No Deal means Remain
That poll I posted upthread had

Remain: 48% (-2)
Leave without deal: 52% (+2)

"Leave without deal " is pretty clear and so is Remain

mybrainhurtsalot · 01/12/2018 21:10

BigChocFrenzy, what is the provenance of that graphic? It seems to come from WestMonster and the figures don’t seem to match what is in the PDF summary I posted from the Delta Poll site.

SwedishEdith · 01/12/2018 21:17

I, obviously, don't know how many actually think that but I have overheard someone asking (v. recently) if no deal meant everything stays the same as now. Knowing the person who asked, I suspect that's not an unusual view.

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2018 21:42

I definitely know two people who think no deal means everything stays the same. With the others I'm guessing from comments they've made but from my straw pole I reckoned it's about a third.

jasjas1973 · 01/12/2018 21:53

Its understandable, If you change your mind and don't trade in your ford focus for an '74 Allegro... you still drive home in your focus - you don't end up catching the bus home.

Talkinpeece · 01/12/2018 21:56

jasjas
Hence why I use the jumping out of the plane analogy.

We will jump
a deal is a parachute
no deal means no parachute

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2018 21:59

Except you'd already given a binding notification that your Focus could be scrunched on the 29 th March 2019?

jasjas1973 · 01/12/2018 22:05

Yep sure but i have to say, its been reported on News Night that people may be getting confused with fantasy no deal = things stay as they are and the reality no deal = jump out of plane with no parachute.

Remember, any WA is just a agreement of intent, as Ms Truss has pointed out and with a new EU commission next year, it might mean anything or nothing at all.
