Write to your MP and let them know if you want the UK to stay in the Single Market/Customs Union or remain in the EU.

Let them know that you will hold them personally responsible if the UK leaves with No Deal or a Bad Deal.

Let them know you will not tolerate the Good Friday Agreement breaking down and peace in Northern Ireland being put at risk.

If you are a Labour party supporter or potential voter let them know that you want them to come out in favour of SM/CU or Remain - NOW.

Sign the petitions (I can link if you like) demanding a People's Vote and get ready to write to the PM on 9th November.

Don't report this to MNHQ and ask for it to be put in the Brexit topic - it's a genuine AIBU and too important to be hidden away.

The people did indeed speak in 2016, half of them were listened to. Now we need to be listened to again.

I'm sure Nigel Farage and the other UKIP MEPs would be ecstatic if the UK walked away from its outstanding obligations - which include the provision for pensions for the MEPs Grin actually, maybe there are indeed bits of the UK's obligations which shouldn't be paid Wink

.

threetrees · 27/10/2018 06:31

inidistinct: you mean seriously, you are prepared to share sovereignty with someone as utterly atrocious, inept and moronic as Angela Merkel??

that is a good enough reason ON ITS OWN to leave the EU!

Mistigri · 27/10/2018 07:26

someone as utterly atrocious, inept and moronic as Angela Merkel??

Angela Merkel has a doctorate in quantum physics, played a key role in German unification after the fall of the Berlin Wall and has been in charge of the world's fourth largest economy (and third largest exporter) for 13 year. She speaks three languages.

@threetrees is ... a shitposter on a parenting forum who can't even write English properly.

Spot the difference.

frumpety · 27/10/2018 07:28

Genuine question threetrees in what way is Merkel inept or moronic ?

frumpety · 27/10/2018 07:29

Ah Misti beat me to it !

Quietrebel · 27/10/2018 07:55

To be honest frumpety, coarse name calling like what threetree writes doesn't call for such respectful questions as yours.

Peregrina · 27/10/2018 08:29

It doesn't deserve respectful answers no, but I as said on another thread, the responses provide very useful information for the rest of us.

indistinct · 27/10/2018 08:30

threetrees
Ignoring the invective ... happy to share sovereignty to our mutual economic and societal benefit particularly as we have a policy veto.

OneforsorrowTwoforJoyce · 27/10/2018 08:44

utterly atrocious, inept and moronic as Angela Merkel??

Great title for an AIBU thread Grin

No the world hasn’t fallen in but we’re still in EU and businesses still don’t have certainty of direction post Brexit. Businesses that can easily move to EU (eg finance) are doing so already and we now have low growth in comparison to our EU neighbours. If we get no-deal or fall out of the single market to a Canada type deal then I suspect manufacturers (eg JLR, BMW, Nissan, airbus...) will cease to invest or wind-down their operations. If we get a Norway type deal with customs union that probably won’t happen in the short-term at least. The warnings from various businesses, industry groups and unions shouldn’t be taken lightly - this will affect livelihood of 100,000s people.
Other than honouring the ‘16 referendum result, why should UK gov and people proceed when risks are now clearer and benefits even vaguer?

Jason118 · 27/10/2018 11:17

Threetrees will be off shift now until Monday, so the entertainment will have to wait

jasjas1973 · 27/10/2018 12:27

@sunglasses123
Although May isn't great could you image Corbyn trying to deliver Brexit?

He wants a SM/CU brexit, which is the least damaging option and respects the GFA in NI, a no-deal brexit still means we owe the EU 30 billion.
May is in hock to the DUP, the ERG & could not deliver a Pizza.

Junker is a drunk power crazy idiot who loves the sound of his own voice - that and over riding UK laws. It has had its time and now is the time for change

He is stepping down, cannot over ride anything at all, let alone UK laws, thats in the main the ECHR a non EU court, set up by the UK!!! he was voted in by democratically elected MEPs and by 26 of 28 member states & is not in charge of the brexit negotiations.

Change to what? have you ANY idea of what you actually want?

time4chocolate · 27/10/2018 18:14

The same can’t be said for his likely successor though.

Confusedbeetle · 27/10/2018 18:19

I Love the UK and I love Europe. I hate the EU and want to leave

1tisILeClerc · 27/10/2018 18:24

{The same can’t be said for his likely successor though.}
I think he is stepping down to retire.
He is a representative of the EU parliament, he does not 'make' laws but he speaks on behalf of all the countries. His successor will be similarly chosen and voted for.
If you are going to be grumpy and criticise the EU you could at least have the decency to get your facts correct.

prettybird · 27/10/2018 18:25

And pray tell, who might that be? Confused Given that we haven't yet had the European Parliament elections and it takes those results into account? Confused (You know, the democratic elections Hmm)

Admittedly, they still haven't decided which order that should be this time around: whether the European Parliament provides the shortlist, which the national leaders then vote on, or whether the national leaders vote on their choice of the leader and the European Parliament then votes on whether they accept that candidate.

indistinct · 27/10/2018 18:59

@Confusedbeetle
Why do you hate EU? Are the economic effects of leaving worth it? Why not leave to EFTA+CU?

Leavers, sound bites and hatred of EU wont replace the 100,000s good manufacturing jobs that we risk losing. UK government will accept a poor Brexit deal or no-deal and blame it on ‘16 result.

Wake up, engage, read about what’s happening and what’s at risk, write to your MP, attend next anti-Brexit march, speak to other leavers in real life, etc time is running out.

time4chocolate · 27/10/2018 19:29

1tisleclerc - no grumpiness here, just saying jobs for the boys. Let’s see how far he gets. It is a good example of bending the rules when it suits.

prettybird · 27/10/2018 19:45

Still waiting to see who Time thinks is a shoo-in for the job Confused

Especially since we still don't even know what the make-up of the EP will be after the next EP elections Confused(you know, elections - that pesky demcratic process Hmm)

1tisILeClerc · 27/10/2018 19:51

There would be nothing to stop a smart 'Brit' being the head of the EU, except the UK seems to be fielding a collection of rats in a sack, who can't even define what 'Brexit' really means after two and a half years so no chance at all.

RedneckStumpy · 27/10/2018 19:56

If people were going to make there feelings known it would have happened already.

The fact that all that can be mustered up is a couple marches and a few letters suggests that not enough people care.

The country is about to commit suicide I have been recommending that family stockpile stuff and prepare for civil unrest.

time4chocolate · 27/10/2018 20:06

www.politico.eu/article/martin-selmayr-jean-claude-junker-commission-slammed-over-selmayr-promotion

The champion of an ever closer union - I’d be very pleased if he didn’t get the job but time will tell.

1tisleclerc - I’d agree with you there, we don’t have anyone who is up to it such is the state of U.K. politics at the moment.

prettybird · 27/10/2018 20:16

Got it in one Redneck. You are talking of Farage's marches with two men and a dog of course.
