Westminstenders: Crisis. What Crisis

October is slowly rolling into November.

Your eyes, rightly, will be distracted by events the other side of the pond.

It won't be good and it won't be pretty and it will have an impact on what happens here in relation to Brexit in one way or another.

May seems to have headed off trouble makers for now. But that means nothing if she can't get a deal through parliament.

And if you think we are in anyway prepared for No Deal I'd like whatever drugs you are taking. That way lies only disorder and to put it bluntly, deaths.

We MUST find a deal, any deal to prevent that. Desperation is the final ingredients in this mess. Who will blink as they realise what's at stake?

The problem is though, is too few MPs have grasped what's at state, such is the quality of our elected representatives. And that's the truly terrifying bit.

If they can't work out the risk of no deal, they certainly not equipped to handle the fall out of no deal.

If you want to shit yourself anymore, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that the minister responsible for hauling all your food and medical supplies in the event if no deal, is Mr Christopher Grayling.

Start praying.

Channel 4 @Channel4
Dear @PiersMorgan. Unfortunately our lawyers wouldn't allow us to say you're the single biggest wanker in the history of human civilisation. But you're in the top 1. #SU2CRewards

Not impressed at this.

I think hes a wanker, but its not the place of C4 to do this.

Arguably, the law firm involved could be taken to court I would suspect. Not for Hain's statement but for telling Hain.

I wonder how litigious Green is feeling.

It was fascinating to listen to radio 4 this morning about Calais in more specific detail. I've been surprise at how little has actually been said about it, other than the odd rumbles about lorry parks.
The suggestion of a proposal to shut down Calais to freight was somewhat startling!

RedToothBrush · 26/10/2018 16:20

The telegraph have asked Green to remove the injunction.

But with this, I suspect he'll be move inclined to fight it all the way now, in the hope he still wins.

Baring in mind several of the other parties to the NDA want to remain anon.

What a mess.

I can see a tweak being made to parliamentary privilege such that the speaker has to clear in advance any disclosures made using it.

If the government can get the numbers, they could theoretically legislate it away Hmm ? Bearing in mind almost nobody would have a clue what it's about anyway.

I have not been to Tescos lately, but I doubt it is only in Grimsby

Anyone else had the consultation on US trade deals crash ?

i really hope it's just me. The UK is already a laughing stock.

I cannot wait Arlene and co congratulate Ruth Davidson and her partner. www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/oct/26/ruth-davidson-gives-birth-to-baby-boy-scottish-conservative-leader

On correspondence, this is from the UK Border Agency (which has one of the biggest post bags) but the process is similar in all departments. Most of the post received by No 10 will be sent to the relevant Department, but it will have gone through a triage process at No 10 first

It's a couple of years out of date, but this article has some interesting data about Ministerial correspondence

DGRossetti · 26/10/2018 16:54

I've had some very detailed replies from my MP on issues surrounding medicines and my concerns. Despite my emailing them in, she insists on replying with a dead-tree version on very heavy (i.e. expensive) HoC headed notepaper.

(Once again, if there really was an environmental crisis, it's hard to see evidence of the people that matter changing their behaviour.).

Now call me old fashioned, but the mantra "parliament is supreme" doesn't just give parliament the power to do what it wants. It's also a clear statement that "the buck stops here".

It's for chariddee. If you donate £50 to #StandUpToCancer they will tweet an insult to Piers Morgan.

I'm not sure I like these times.

Depends on whether he's "in" on it or not ?

Delurking to ask when they talked about Calais on R4. I'd be interested to listen.

Grabbing the news from French or German papers and popping it into a 'translate' program (one of which starts with a G) will often get you better information.

1tisILeClerc · 26/10/2018 17:47

Online versions of the papers of course!

Jeremy Corbyn @jeremycorbyn
Millions of Brazilians are deeply worried that the rise of the far-right threatens an assault on democratic rights.

We stand in solidarity with those defending freedom, peace and justice in Brazil.

clearsommespace · 26/10/2018 18:03

Thanks Leclerc but I am also interested in hearing what the R4 report said.

FishesaPlenty · 26/10/2018 18:10

Going back to the NFU stuff about rising meat prices post-Brexit, RNorth reckons in today's blog that the opposite is likely to happen at first as exports will cease at least for a time, and flood the domestic market.

Looking at the volumes produced he says beef will stay about the same but lamb prices will crash as the majority is currently exported to the EU.

beefandlamb.ahdb.org.uk/markets/industry-reports/uk-statistics/

Beef & Veal exports to EU 63,359 tonnes. Imports from EU 176,680 tonnes.

Mutton & Lamb exports to EU 46,514. Imports from EU 10,590.

So in a scenario of completely stalled EU imports and exports we'd be be short of 113,321 tonnes of cow and have a surplus of 35,924 tonnes of sheep.

Ireland sells us 133,018 tonnes of that 176,680 tonnes of beef.

Is JC trolling us?

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 26/10/2018 18:21

Thank you for the sympathy and good advice! CakeFlowers It’s so good not to feel alone.

DH did talked of resigning yesterday. I’m not sure how we would manage as I’m currently a SAHM but we must be able to work something out. A doctor’s sign off to buy thinking time is a really good idea, thank you again.

ShinyElena · 26/10/2018 18:28

I wish JC were trolling us. I wish.

bellinisurge · 26/10/2018 18:32

Jezza is so in tune with things isn't he?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/10/2018 18:34

clear I think it was sometime after 1pm.

Mightybanhammer · 26/10/2018 18:38

Thanks @ fishesaplenty. RN, for reasons I can't fathom seems to think Irish exports to U.K. will be unaffected.

Anyway, I love mutton. And salt marsh lamb is sensational. So that is one small glimmer of light. Not that I can see our hill farms surviving for long.

I dunno.

Today I read that National Audit Office report on the border situation from cover to cover.

Quite frankly, it is terrifying.
