Westminstenders: Crisis. What Crisis

October is slowly rolling into November.

Your eyes, rightly, will be distracted by events the other side of the pond.

It won't be good and it won't be pretty and it will have an impact on what happens here in relation to Brexit in one way or another.

May seems to have headed off trouble makers for now. But that means nothing if she can't get a deal through parliament.

And if you think we are in anyway prepared for No Deal I'd like whatever drugs you are taking. That way lies only disorder and to put it bluntly, deaths.

We MUST find a deal, any deal to prevent that. Desperation is the final ingredients in this mess. Who will blink as they realise what's at stake?

The problem is though, is too few MPs have grasped what's at state, such is the quality of our elected representatives. And that's the truly terrifying bit.

If they can't work out the risk of no deal, they certainly not equipped to handle the fall out of no deal.

If you want to shit yourself anymore, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that the minister responsible for hauling all your food and medical supplies in the event if no deal, is Mr Christopher Grayling.

Start praying.

borntobequiet my uni age DS works entirely in metric - hence forever having to switch my bathroom scales back to lbs when he’s home. He does tell me what heavy weight he has lifted in kg although he knows I’ll look a bit blank (until I convert it into lbs and then I’m Shock).

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 01/11/2018 10:44

Family illness meant Ive been skimming for a few days. Finally thought I'd pop and have a good read and find were on hitchhikers and Kate Bush. You've cheered me up!

I'm normally quick to moan about our NHS services in our local area when they go wrong but this week they've been just phenomenal and if they hadn't been we wouldn't have my lovely mil on her way to a full recovery rather than permanent affected.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2018 10:45

I can sew, knit (bit rusty on both).

Weaving should be OK.

Wattle & daub ?

borntobequiet · 01/11/2018 10:57

My chippies, civil engineers and others seem to work in a variety of metric and Imperial units on site, switching between them in a practical way without giving it much thought.
I was taken aback though when I suggested to a group of plumbers that they probably needed to be quite accurate in measuring, only to be told, "Nah, you look at it and say about this size "
I do give them a little history of the derivation and subsequent standardisation of measurements, which they seem to like.

54321go · 01/11/2018 11:07

I work in inches, to a resolution of a quarter of an inch, if that is easy number to remember, or metric if the number isn't a convenient quarter of an inch. When I am doing my 'proper' job I work in thousandths of an inch and millimetres.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 01/11/2018 12:03

I am trained in first aid, can cook and knit. My daughter is an archer, she can learn to hit a moving target. I have gold and an extensive wine cellar. I have an electric car that will still run when petrol is short. DH knows how to shoot.

Can we join the MN village?

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 01/11/2018 12:21

Whatthefox you’re a shoe-in!

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 01/11/2018 12:22

Shoo-in even!

I can knit and used to be able to sew. I'm also a good cook, can make sourdough bread (with my own starter) and make brilliant if I say so myself Wink tablet, which will keep the Westministenders villagers energy levels up. I'm a mediocre gardener but have been growing veg the last couple of years.

I used to be able to clay pigeon shoot and went rough shooting once, so if someone can supply a shot gun, I might be able to shoot us some game. Failing that, our two younger boy cats are brilliant birders Hmm - so we could train them to go after the wood pigeons (have you seen a cat bringing a live pigeon or magpie through a cat flap ShockHmm?)

My business skills are perhaps less useful: strategic sales and marketing (B2B) and strategic business planning.

But my main contribution will hopefully being able to offer sanctuary to the refugees from England once Scotland gains its independence Wink

DW has spent the past 6 weeks recovering from multiple bone breaks. The local NHS hospital was absolutely brilliant, efficient and friendly, including automatically arranging locally-based follow-up physio and a bone density scan. We're sending them a card to tell them this and thank them.

How can we even contemplate putting the NHS under such financial and staffing pressure? And how can we think of allowing Brexit to put such a treasured public service at risk (of privatisation)?

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 01/11/2018 12:43

Hope you have plenty of room prettybird!

bellinisurge · 01/11/2018 12:44

@Mrsr8 - sounds excellent.

Hazardswan · 01/11/2018 12:53

For the record I bagsied (sp??) a place at pretty's in an independent Scotland ages ago Grin

I can fudge many things, complicated medical knowledge, sewing, baking, hairdressing. Between us we're covered.

Oh DP is a great hot water bottle and I'm willing to lend him out.

Buteo · 01/11/2018 13:04

I’m an engineer and I use the measure twice and cut once rule of thumb.

Your plumbers’ method of measurement is probably why pipes and drains are never where they are supposed to be according to the plans Hmm

MyBrexitIsIll · 01/11/2018 13:09

Arron Banks and other Brexit campaigners referred to National Crime Agency over 'suspected criminal offences' during referendum
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-latest-arron-banks-national-crime-agency-criminal-offences-referendum-vote-a8612331.html

Why are we still trying to implement the results of a vote that has been clearly affected by illegal manoeuvres??

KennDodd · 01/11/2018 13:21

@SingingBabooshkaBadly @MyBrexitIsIll

And first item on the lunchtime news!

ElenadeClermont · 01/11/2018 13:45

Can we join in as well? I can sew, knit, like cleaning and washing up. DH is a great cook and gardener (an all-rounder really).

I have tidied up the flat in Budapest and thrown out tonnes of stuff just in case we have to quickly retreat there next year.

It was the annual big rubbish day in our street. Michael Gove would have loved it. welovebudapest.com/en/2015/04/07/of-trash-and-treasure-lomtalanitas-reveals-many-budapest-lives/

Hazardswan · 01/11/2018 13:54

kenn and mybriexit I was just coming on say it was on the news! Itv. Reasonably covered but would have been appropriate if someone was shouting WE'RE LEAVING BASED ON AN ILLEGAL REFERENDUM WITH A FOOKING TINY MAJORITY - FOOK ME LET'S NOT DO IT!

Can't have everything.

Elen more the merrier Smile also how big is you flat in Budapest? Could we all perhaps squeeze in?

Buteo · 01/11/2018 14:04

If it had been a legally binding referendum, then proven illegal activities could render it null and void.

But, as we all know, it was only advisory.

ElenadeClermont · 01/11/2018 14:06

It is not very big (70 square meters), but the apartment blocks have a playground, so we can pitch up tents there if it is not too cold.
