Westminstenders: Crisis. What Crisis

October is slowly rolling into November.

Your eyes, rightly, will be distracted by events the other side of the pond.

It won't be good and it won't be pretty and it will have an impact on what happens here in relation to Brexit in one way or another.

May seems to have headed off trouble makers for now. But that means nothing if she can't get a deal through parliament.

And if you think we are in anyway prepared for No Deal I'd like whatever drugs you are taking. That way lies only disorder and to put it bluntly, deaths.

We MUST find a deal, any deal to prevent that. Desperation is the final ingredients in this mess. Who will blink as they realise what's at stake?

The problem is though, is too few MPs have grasped what's at state, such is the quality of our elected representatives. And that's the truly terrifying bit.

If they can't work out the risk of no deal, they certainly not equipped to handle the fall out of no deal.

If you want to shit yourself anymore, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that the minister responsible for hauling all your food and medical supplies in the event if no deal, is Mr Christopher Grayling.

Start praying.

It is a huge risk.
The British government would either come to terms or quickly fall. Even if the UK agreed a deal, we would be facing an unprecedented political crisis.

It's a dangerous game. As indeed was WW1 - drifted into, with appalling carnage. Afghanistan/Iraq - jumped in with jingoistic fervour and still a mess, with a power vacuum which has now destablised the Middle East. Arab Spring .....And so on.

You look back and think of Kennedy and the Cuban missile crisis and how that was handled with a certain amount of dipomacy namely the Russians removed the missiles from Cuba and the Americans removed theirs from Turkey. This last of course, wasn't trumpeted in our press.

Quietrebel · 30/10/2018 19:35

It's shocking how this all isn't being thought through.

On a practical level, if I were in that situation, I'd collate as much evidence as possible (council tax bill, mortgage deed or tenancy agreement, utility bills and p45/p60s from previous job), send scans of it to my new employer's HR department and request in writing that they're satisfied with the evidence. I'd even attach the guidelines from the home office for EEA Permanent Residence application to show that these are documents accepted by the home office.

The UK far right gets the same message as the US, directly from source(s)

However, I read that the US is finding language issues preventing it spreading its message properly in mainland Europe

  • The xenophobes are usually those most likely to be monolingul and not speak English

So the European far right has a different message, particularly about benefits and public spending, which they often want more of

Once settled status is there, PR won’t be valid anymore and people will need to register again. They just won’t need to pay again.
There is no paperwork, card or even an email to confirm your settled status.
And of course, most people won’t have anything at all on the 30th March As the app hasn’t been released yet AND it was designed for people to enrol over several months. If everyone has to do it before March 19, it will crash (remember the idea that people would only be able to register in alphabetical order because the system wouldn’t cope with everyine doing it at the same time....)

Apparently, employers, banks etc... will be able to check said database. The one where they know there is already some issues with that they haven’t been able to solve since June....

The PM of Norway discusses economics with May;

Norway has a $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund - worth almost $200,000 per Norwegian citizen. The UK is £2 trillion in debt, despite having the same North Sea Oil revenues as us and despite selling off the utilities, infrastructure, council houses and anything not nailed down. Now you want to join our club and tell us how to run things?

Theresa May really has lost all reason hasn’t she? Speaking at the Nordic Council and explaining to a Finnish
politician why there won’t be a People’s Vote. The people have voted blah blah blah and:

’For me, it’s a question of faith in politicians and the integrity of politicians that we deliver on that vote’

Dear God, doesn’t she realise not only has that ship long since sailed it’s hit a massive iceberg and gone down with all on board?

Thomasinaa · 31/10/2018 00:41

Do you really think she means it? Have you seen the video of JMR failing to say that with a straight face?

Could this be a ray of hope? Going to be debated in parliament on the 19th November.

54321go · 31/10/2018 07:51

Hi Mother
I read that bit as just covering themselves as the few days before and after 29th are completely in the lap of the gods and as various treaties may not have been rejigged even the EU can't 'rule' over something that is joint responsibility, basically they can't know either at this time.
Their jurisdiction ends at the border of 'Euroland'

KennDodd · 31/10/2018 07:53

Part of the gov response to the above petition inclues the line-

Whilst striking a deal with our EU partners remains our top priority, we are supporting businesses and citizens to prepare for all scenarios and stepping up preparations to ensure that ‘no deal’ plans are well-developed.

What is this 'support' they are giving citizens? I haven't received any support, has anybody else. I might writes to the Brexit secretary and ask about this support and when I can expect some.

Anyway, please sign and share the petition.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 31/10/2018 08:03

Thomasina you mean does she mean the bit about integrity, rather than meaning there will be no vote? I don’t know is the answer either way I suppose. They’ve all got me utter,y baffled. She sounds so tunnel visioned about it - it’s almost like Brexit is a cult and she’s driving it through after being brainwashed. Or she’s just a better actor than imagined. I haven’t seen the JRM footage but will try to hunt it down. Odious creep.

Could this be a ray of hope? Going to be debated in parliament on the 19th November.

I don’t know Kenn. I’d love to think so but did you see footage from the last debate? IIRC it was attended by about four MPs and a paper clip.

HesterThrale · 31/10/2018 08:06

That's interesting Kenn. Often they take ages to decide to debate a petition, but I think this one's literally only just gone over 100,000 at the weekend.

Well, I'm not giving up - I owe it to my kids. I've written a letter to my MP, and I'll do a similar version for TM next week in the 9th Nov letter storm.

Scientists for EU on Facebook (Mike Galsworthy) is giving useful tips on what to put in the letter. He recommends a handwritten, personal letter. (I do like watching his little videos!)

Sellafield nuclear decommissioning ‘significantly’ delayed and £ms over budget, report reveals

UK is already the world’s plutonium waste dump with no plan for what to do with it. Totally irresponsible to even think of future nuclear power

Post Euratom.

Sellafield is near fracking sites which are causing earthquakes............

I can't access this article but was talking to people who'd seen this at MK the weekend. In Milton Keynes shopping centre is a tent city of homeless children. ( teens and early twenties and kids in my book)

Homeless children, in a nearly fully employed affluent area, with no homes for them.

It was near zero last night.

54321go · 31/10/2018 08:41

Mother
I doubt the EU will be deliberately 'playing games' as they know they are under scrutiny too. Since the UK gov are STILL pratting about it makes it near impossible for the EU to plan with complete accuracy so the EU have to give themselves a bit of wiggle room. If the EU want or need to change items they need to discuss it and get agreement from 27!

Latest off the wall idea from Jeremy Hunt: replace trained ambassadors with failed business people (the successful ones will be running businesses!)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_for_the_Restoration_of_the_Professional_Civil_Service …
"Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service"
1933 Hitler Germany.

Hunt's proposal is a parallel attack to undermine politically impartial advice based on experience, built relationships & cultural association.

Mrs May was 'too shy' to interview for head of civil service, so Mark Sedwill got it 'on the nod'.

Nice touch Ireland. The UK is also launching a coin to celebrate a thing that just won’t die based on a macabre work of fiction too!

kenn nice idea. I have received no support either, anyone else? As for it being a ray of hope singing was right about the last one. Quite epic though if memory serves me right they admitted the elec laws were broken but they didn't believe or didn't know how that influenced the results.

hester hand written?? Blimey, I'll see if I can produce something readable!

Letters are pointless now. MPs are reporting their consituents to the Home Office.

We are not in Kansas anymore folks.

There's a man goin' 'round takin' names
And he decides who to free and who to blame
Everybody won't be treated all the same
There'll be a golden ladder reachin' down
