Westminstenders: Crisis. What Crisis

October is slowly rolling into November.

Your eyes, rightly, will be distracted by events the other side of the pond.

It won't be good and it won't be pretty and it will have an impact on what happens here in relation to Brexit in one way or another.

May seems to have headed off trouble makers for now. But that means nothing if she can't get a deal through parliament.

And if you think we are in anyway prepared for No Deal I'd like whatever drugs you are taking. That way lies only disorder and to put it bluntly, deaths.

We MUST find a deal, any deal to prevent that. Desperation is the final ingredients in this mess. Who will blink as they realise what's at stake?

The problem is though, is too few MPs have grasped what's at state, such is the quality of our elected representatives. And that's the truly terrifying bit.

If they can't work out the risk of no deal, they certainly not equipped to handle the fall out of no deal.

If you want to shit yourself anymore, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that the minister responsible for hauling all your food and medical supplies in the event if no deal, is Mr Christopher Grayling.

Start praying.

8 killed in Pittsburgh Synagogue
www.haaretz.com/us-news/man-reportedly-opens-fire-near-a-pittsburgh-synagoue-1.6595493?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

They didn't have security on the door.

Men in the congregation of british synagogues take it in turns to do 'security', which is pretty basic, but at least exists.

Although we hear so much about the divisions and guns in the US, one of the nicest things I've found about many Americans I've known, is how much they trust their own country, after a fashion. Until recently that included some Jews, I suppose.

European Jews have had to be more realistic.

{The French know how to start with a blank sheet of paper.}
And continue up to page 5 and then make 17 photocopies of the 5 pages!

1tisILeClerc · 27/10/2018 18:03

Mind you, the page Mrs May had a Chequers would have been better if it had stayed blank.

1tisILeClerc · 27/10/2018 18:12

From the SKY weather news
{"From Sunday it will be a degree or two warmer and over the next week we will get wind from the northeast which will bring more continental, milder air," he said.}
You can cut this 'stealing the continental's weather' nonsense when the UK leaves, get your own weather!

Oh that's a dreadful attack on worshippers, woman 🙁
I see it was another crazy white supremacist, who somehow blames Jews for letting in immigrants and decided to commit mass murder
The crazies have been made even crazier by Trump endorsing them

BigChocFrenzy · 27/10/2018 18:41

Those of us living abroad must calculate postage times to reach London

HesterThrale · 27/10/2018 18:50

How bad do the Tories/ TM have to be before Lab/ JC is seen as a better option?
I despair....

Tories 41%
Lab-36%

TM-35%
JC-24%

Mind you 38% didn’t know.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/10/2018 19:25

This is why Corbyn & chums wants a no deal

It seems the only way the Great British Public would vote for a party that doesn't push xenophobia, tax cuts & benefit cuts ...
is after a total economic and flights meltdown

HesterThrale · 27/10/2018 19:35

Bigchoc that’s so depressing.

Ian Dunt thinks the March was a game-changer.

Theresa May's statement to the Commons on Brexit negotiations on Monday was constantly interrupted by demands for a People's Vote and a recognition of the march. MP after MP, on all sides of the House, stood up to demand she acknowledges the protest.
There was something slightly different about the way they did so. They seemed more confident about demanding a second referendum like they no longer shuddered at the sneering mockery which would invariably follow. And opponents of the protest were no longer able to be quite so dismissive. They were more respectful, more balanced in their opposition. The policy had not changed, but the manner in which it was discussed had.
That is how protest works. It doesn't secure things in and of itself. But it strengthens its supporters in places of power and it weakens its enemies. And that was the effect it had this week: slowly moulding the Brexit debate in a more favourable direction.

Yes, like the million who marched against the bombing of Iraq: it didn't prevent Blair, but it made Cameron much more cautious of apparently blindly following the Americans the next time round.

Or like the protests in E Europe which helped to bring Communism down. The steady drip drip which eventually can erode mountains.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2018 20:02

do you remember whether Ireland joined the UK in their experiment of keeping summer time all year round back in 1968 -71?

Peregrina, yes, Ireland kept summer time for those years too.

Peregrina · 27/10/2018 20:11

Thanks math. As I said, I think we will have to fall in with the rest of the EU however much huffing and puffing we do.

RedToothBrush · 27/10/2018 21:35

Well you learn something new every day:

Adam Wagner @ adamwagner1
Turned my phone on after a lovely day attending synagogue with my family, with its security guards with bullet proof vests, and I see our community’s worst nightmare has come true

Love and strength to everyone in Pittsburg. We must remember we have more in common than divides us

He's taking the piss out of Trump saying the Pittsburgh Synagogue should have had defence.

Isnt he?

Right?

Surely?

Jonathan Allan @meolscop1978
Am I reading this right your synagogue has guards with bullet proof vests?

Sue Rubenstein @ suerubenstein1
Our synagogue (like most synagogues) has ordinary members on a security rota wearing bulletproof vests.

Adam Wagner @ adamwagner1
Yes. Every Saturday. Community volunteers and professional guards

Marie Beardsley @ mariebard
Is this the norm throughout the UK?

Adam Wagner @adamwagner1
Yes

But given events in the UK alone over the last 2 years its understandable. No less shocking mind.

The floodgates are opening now in the US.
It's open season on blacks, Jews, and the 'liberal elite'.

In this case a man with a verifiable history of mental illness and a criminal record involving violence acquired a gun despite being barred by a judge and shot two elderly black people dead in a supermarket and car park. He was confronted by an armed (white) man outside the supermarket who exchanged fire with him, but he escaped. Was later arrested though.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2018 21:43

I have a feeling the time zone issue will be like the blue passports - something done just for the sake of thumbing the UK nose at Europe regardless of how silly/destructive/damaging/irrational.

If there wasn't an appetite for such stupidity there wouldn't have been a vote in favour of Brexit, after all.

I like living in Aberdeen. Will be happier when the art gallery reopens but I'm very fond of the place. Can get a tad icy and it does get dark in winter but the air is fresh and it doesn't rain as much as at home (Dublin).

HauntedForestier · 27/10/2018 22:43

Yes lime what an awful story. And the shooting in Pittsburgh.

I actually found myself thinking about prepping for a no deal.

KennDodd · 27/10/2018 22:54

RedToothBrush

And letters, letters, letters. People must write opposing Brexit.

acivilcontract · 27/10/2018 22:55

I went to university in the NE of England, it was so cold and I was constantly told that as a Scot I should be used to it. I developed a whole speech about the Gulf Stream and how the Island I grew up on had palm trees !

HauntedForestier · 27/10/2018 23:01

There are palm trees in Dublin too! Not seen any in Aberdeen though. I think my conservatory might be useful for freezing food in the run up to March 29.

(I think you should send some woolly jumpers up to your ds prettybird)

Icantreachthepretzels · 27/10/2018 23:02

I actually found myself thinking about prepping for a no deal.

I went on a big stockpiling trip today. No where near done - but I always feel better after I've bought some extra stuff. I live in a flat and don't have much storage - I'm currently keeping my stockpile in my entrance hall so I don't trip over it (opening the door is getting tricky - though) and I get such peace of mind just from seeing it there (will obviously hide it better before b-day).

I'm going to ask for a camping stove from my parents for Christmas.

My mum was also stockpiling, elsewhere, today. She told me that tins of potatoes had gone up nearly 30p in a week. That would be in Morrisons. The pound hasn't slumped that badly - I think they're noticing people stocking up on tinned goods and are pricing accordingly. Which suggests (along with the tesco bulk buy aisle) that it isn't just people on this thread that are prepping for March (sadly not the govt though).
