To think people are creating hysteria around brexit

I keep reading post about brexit And prepping and they seem to be crazy. Why are people creating so much hysteria around this. I can’t see how it would be beneficial to other countries to let it get in the state some posters are suggesting.

This is a really sad post. OP seems totally and utter ignorant of both politics and Brexit in general yet feels the need to condemn those who are clearly well informed for their 'hysteria'.

Husband is fairly senior in the Pharmaceutical authorities and said all sides are preparing for the worst and that there is a general feeling of fear for their families. He's convinced the health service won't make it through Brexit (only for privatisation to save it in the capable hands of Boris Johnson, finally getting what he wished for :( )
Close friend works for a government trade body and says employees are resigning in droves to leave before the 'sh** storm' hits. His words not mine.

What worries me is how often people say 'I think...' on here. I wish everyone would stop basing their ideas on 'gut instinct' and personal opinion and start informing themselves.

BearFoxBear · 23/10/2018 23:43

Agree on the NHS being dismantled as a result too.

Its a total shit show and yet still people don't take the time to educate themselves. It beggars belief.

VillanellesBrownWig · 23/10/2018 23:44

I'm type 1 diabetic and bloody terrified, frankly anyone who thinks I'm hysterical can fuck off, cunts Angry

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/10/2018 23:46

The dismantling of the NHS has been going on for years

Brexit will probably finish it off though personally I think we should change our health system but not under these circumstances one where it can be managed throughly

Plentyoffishnets · 23/10/2018 23:46

and this is the trouble. People started feeling the effects of austerity - poorer healthcare, larger class sizes etc and the conservatives did not get the brunt of the anger about this - The EU/ EU workers did. The conservative party is utterly appalling and still seems to escape the people's wrath. An arrogant man put the whole country's future on the line to try and silence the eurosceptics in his party. Totally backfired and he has gone to ground. If things had just been left then possibly UKIP would have got a couple more seats but that would have been it. Instead - the whole country is now fucked. Theresa May is in a a catch 22 situation, made all the worse by cosying up with the DUP. Really the past 5 years are such a clusterfuck and a real lesson on how to not run a country effectively. It is so depressing.

DareIAdmit · 23/10/2018 23:49

OP, there is no excuse for ignorance. People fought for our right to vote and you squander it, unwilling to educate yourself. Did you need spoonfeeding in school as well? You have the guts to not vote and then criticise others for actually caring about this country and its future? It's truly despicable.

whyispeppainthenightgarden · 23/10/2018 23:53

Why does everyone assume I didn’t look at information before the vote. I did I still couldn’t decide what I thought was best course of action so choose not to vote.

Incredibly unreasonable. And quite lacking in empathy as well, the lives of 3,000,000 Europeans living here are still in limbo after over two years, we have no idea whether our fundamental rights will be protected. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, but sometimes I do wish certain British people would bother putting themselves in our shoes.

And don't come running to me if Brexit happens and you're all out of tuna!!!

poppymatilda · 23/10/2018 23:56

As many people are saying on this thread, leaving without a deal would have very serious ramifications for our country. However, I believe (/hope) that this scenario is unlikely to materialise.

Everything that is being said at the moment is through the lens of an ongoing negotiating position. It's a high stakes game of brinkmanship with neither side (the EU or the UK) wanting to blink first.

My expectation is that there will be an 11th hour deal because neither side really wants a no deal Brexit. The EU's bargaining position is stronger than ours because we stand to suffer more in the event of no deal so I imagine the last ditch deal will not be pleasing to the majority of the UK electorate.

I could be wrong of course but that's just what I reckon!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/10/2018 23:58

I know quite a few people who feel they just didn’t know enough about the EU and if we are better to leave or stay to vote and had done their reading on the subject

It was far too complex to be put forward to the public

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 23/10/2018 23:59

Hoping this thread is a reverse posted by a Remainer!
Our problems are now our own OP; we’ve brought this shitshow on ourselves and no other country has to help out because we are no longer part of the Union. We’re out in the cold.

HarveyNickNacks · 24/10/2018 00:00

What DareIAdmit said.

I know there are many ill educated people out there. But many have taken the time to learn about what Brexit will mean to them and their families.

What I cannot understand is those who are educated - and have the means to undertake research - but for whatever reason choose not to do so and to ignore the evidence presented by reputable and credible individuals and organisations. Instead they believe the utter bollocks perpetuated by the likes of The Sun, The Daily Mail, Gove, Fox, Rees-Mogg, Farrage and many others who wouldn't know the truth if they were slapped with it across the face with a dead fish.

It's going to be absolutely shite. But don't worry. Gove, Fox, Rees-Mogg and Farrage will be fine. It'll just be the rest of us who are up shit creek.

BackInTime · 24/10/2018 00:05

In Ireland they are running adverts on TV and radio advising businesses to prepare for Brexit, yet in the UK we are crossing everything and hoping for the best Confused

Breadfoam · 24/10/2018 00:07

I’m a t1 and I need to stop reading this thread. It’s kicking my anxiety into massive massive overdrive.
Frankly if we get to no deal and it looks like I’m going to die a painful death from DKA I will just use whatever insulin I have to end it pretty quickly.
Without insulin I’ve probably got 72 hours. Maybe.

Costacoffeeplease · 24/10/2018 00:07

Well done you

Lots of people did educate themselves and continue to do so

Without an agreement the uk is fucked, in so, so many ways. I’m actually shocked that anyone thinks it’s ‘hysteria’

LeMesmer · 24/10/2018 00:09

Everything will be fine, initially, short term measures will be put in place to assure everything functions. Medium to long term it doesn’t look good. Customs difficulties will probably mean manufacturers relocating with job losses, freedom of movement will be curtailed - for holidays, for working in the EU, the UK will lack a very important immigrant workforce There are so many things that make for a bleak future. It won’t happen on Brexit day, but it will happen. Maybe in 20 years the UK will recover, but maybe not. What does the UK have to offer the rest of the world? And don’t say we could be like Switzerland or Norway, they have a very long and mutually beneficial history of working with the EU, it is difficult to see that happening now with theUK.

LikeCherOnlyTiny · 24/10/2018 00:10

People die unnecessarily all the time.

People who could be saved by simple treatments die all the time.

Did the HIV crisis in Africa just pass you by?

Many life saving drugs are already not available on the NHS.

There’s a guy in the US specialises in buying drug patents and jacking up the price til the pips squeak.

The global pharmaceutical industry isn’t run on a charitable basis.

puzzledlady · 24/10/2018 00:10

People fear the unknown - that’s all. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s new uncharted territory. Personally I think the UK will be fine (I’m not from here but my children and husband are) I come from a country where we sort of broke off from our own ‘EU’ and we have thrived - done even better than them I would say.

HarveyNickNacks · 24/10/2018 00:16

So what are you saying LikeCherOnlyTiny

We should rewind about 40 years and just get on board with this utterly ridiculous farce? We should seriously put people's lives at risk just so disaster capitalists like Rees-Mogg can avoid the EU Tax Evasion Legislation? Which funnily enough is due to become law the day after we leave the EU. Coincidence much?

Fuck that!

LikeCherOnlyTiny · 24/10/2018 00:26

What I am saying Harvey is that it is utterly naive to think that drug shortages simply won’t happen.

The OP seems to think some magic wand or other will be waved re insulin and other vital medications. I’m pointing out the foolishness of that point of view.

LikeCherOnlyTiny · 24/10/2018 00:28

And rewinding 40 years wouldn’t be a bad thing, if the results of the ‘79 election could be changed.

Somerville · 24/10/2018 00:29

People who think short-term solutions will be conveniently put in place if we crash out on 29th March are those who forget we live on an island, I suspect. Unfortunately it won't be so easy.

Suzeyshoes · 24/10/2018 00:30

Again the use of the phrase 'I think...', PuzzledLady.

What do you base your 'thinking' on? The thousands of experts? The Government's own warnings? The numerous alerts from industry groups? The personal fears of people like Breadfoam? The intelligent press?

Seriously, I'm interested? To what extent do you block out the many voices of informed people to the sound of your own 'gut instinct'? I'd love to hear that you have detailed knowledge. Feel free to tell us which country you are from and why the circumstances are so similar...

Quietrebel · 24/10/2018 00:49

People fear the unknown - that’s all.

I very much fear the KNOWN shitshow heading our way.

Willofthesimpletons · 24/10/2018 01:33

I certainly feel like there's a tidal wave of shit about to hit us and I'm watching it move ever closer, armed with only an umbrella to protect me and my family.

... and I KNOW things and I've already taken steps to prepare. If you haven't even bothered to find out whys coming, you really are in for a terrible shock.
