How much of the millions the ERG individuals are proposing to save (personally) will filter down to improve the lives on council estates?

None. But council estates don't exactly exist any more. Previous right to buy policies have led to once council houses being snapped up by buy to let landlord. Which no doubt numbers a good few ERG people, who will do OK out of Brexit.

1tisILeClerc · 14/09/2018 13:47

Sorry, probably a poor example but you see the principle, the wealth accumulated by some will not be used to improve the lives of the poorest.
I am not advocating communism but a regulated 'evening out' of wealth which in many respects is part of the goals of the EU.
One of the parts of Mr Junker's speech was he wanted to see citizens from birth through to leaving education to have the best chances in life (bad paraphrasing, sorry).

Morethanthisprovincallife · 14/09/2018 19:02

Ah yes evening out of wealth, stuff the people who go under in the process

Frank field said.. Who do you need to protect in UK, UK poor or the poor of the eu. We all want to help all poor people but actually the job of our government is to protect the poor of the UK.

This is what so many posters do not accept. The UK has been flooded with extremely poor people from elsewhere. Which drowned people already residing here. Its these poor shat on folks who voted leave and who people who have no clue patronise and need to explain to them how they will be worse off.

bellinisurge · 14/09/2018 19:13

I live in a pretty impoverished part of the UK . Most immigrants that are also in poverty are from Non-EU countries. Most EU immigrants I know are in tax paying skilled jobs for decent wages that cannot be filled by UK citizens.
Just because you are in poverty doesn't mean you can't read. Pretty patronising to suggest otherwise. Brexit will make the already struggling struggle more. Which anyone who can read would know.
If people chose to believe that Brexit meant a quick painless fix to all our problems they were conned. Hard to admit you were conned. Everyone can get conned if you find their week point.
But it was a con. It's going to just and it's going to take a generation to fix. At least.
I watched Thatcherism devaste communities and a whole generation. I'm seeing it again.

bellinisurge · 14/09/2018 19:14

It's going to hurt

Morethanthisprovincallife · 14/09/2018 19:18

It's not me who patronised them. On another thread last week someone said Labour should be slick opposition going round all leaver Labour strongholds explaining to these people why they voted wrong.

People seem to think they need to be explained too. If that's not fucking patronising I don't know what is.

I'm in area around lots of deprived pockets and I instantly knew what ff meant I have seen it

It's affected every aspect of people at the bottoms life. It's something you either know or don't know

People do know it, ff knows it... Most leavers know it.

bellinisurge · 14/09/2018 19:23

@Morethanthisprovincallife - then what do you plan to do about the fact that 16 million people voted Remain. Only slightly less than voted Leave. Are you going to change our minds? Insult us? Throw us out? Plenty of us are pretty impoverished too and don't rely on privileged white boys to tell us what to do.

surferjet · 14/09/2018 19:34

It’s really difficult to have any sympathy for the remainers on mumsnet when their main concern is orchestras having to queue lionger at airports.

If you were referring to my comments, maybe you should consider that it is ENTIRELY the UK government's responsibility to look after all in the UK.
This is NOT an EU issue it has been the case since the Government was set up. Failure to acknowledge governmental responsibility until more recent times (say 100 years as a guess, I am not a historian but it will do as a marker). Blame the UK government of both 'flavours' over the last 100 years for failing to adequately look after ALL citizens. The great cities of the UK, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield etc have been largely abandoned since the factors that made them grow initially receded (trading or manufacturing) and rather than invest properly in regeneration to mover into alternative activities, to a fair extent they were thrown a bit of money for 'redundancy'.
The UK has not been 'flooded' by the poor from other countries and is as unpleasant as it is inaccurate.

frumpety · 14/09/2018 19:39

Morethan does Frank field believe that non of the woes of the people living in poverty in this country has anything to do with the government that has been in power ? So years and years of austerity measures have had no part to play in their lives , it is all down to the FOM of some other poor people from the EU into their area ?

frumpety · 14/09/2018 19:42

Also if you are poor and someone else who is poor moves in next door , how does that make you poorer still ?

bellinisurge · 14/09/2018 19:47

Yes @surferjet - absolutely the only thing all Remainers are focussing on is orchestra inconvenience.

KennDodd · 14/09/2018 19:51

So are we blaming the poor for Brexit? I would challenge the view that poor people overwhelmingly voted Leave (willing to be proven wrong though). An awful lot of wealthy home counties pensioners voted Leave, maybe somebody could explain to me why they felt so hard done by?

1tisILeClerc · 14/09/2018 19:56

Personally I am more angry that the UK government may cancel my pension, is massively devaluing my savings and makes my work a lot more difficult.
Given a free choice I would have a florescent orange passport so I can find it easily.

frumpety · 14/09/2018 20:05

Also all these leave voters you are talking about in Frank fields constituency, they are all Labour voters , yes ?

Hazardswan · 14/09/2018 20:20

Hi! I exist! I voted remain! I'm on benefits as a full time carer! I don't have a degree and left school at 16! DP takes over 20 meds a day!

There's more than one type of leaver and more than one type of remainer!

I like remainers more tho because they didn't vote for med shortages, I hope most leavers voted leave not knowing that and continue to hope they'll kick off a storm now they know and say 'not in my name biatches' or something to that effect

lljkk · 14/09/2018 20:34

I live in a strongly Leave voting area. We have almost no immigrants whatsoever. The locals are just very contrary. Grin

Morethanthisprovincallife · 14/09/2018 21:40

Frumpty. Ask him.

A hugely admired Labour mp for yonks with a huge heart and tons of compassion. He has one of the most deprived wards of the UK.

Why not read some of his brexit writings and know why he wants to leave?

I think it's a good idea to look at both sides of any argument, in a genuine way to make sure you feel correctly... The posters (not on this thread but on others) who say...

But we ask leavers questions and they don't Ansa.. Get short shrift from me.... In a very light hearted way of course.

All info for both sides is out there.
The Crux is only on here but some renainers are entrenched and no matter what you say about the eu they wouldn't care.

Morethanthisprovincallife · 14/09/2018 21:44

Iikijk in the nicest way you may not realise.

In my town we have people who have absolutely no idea of the sheer volume of immigrants who have passed through. They can't understand where they are even! So it can happen.

I grew up in a super leafy little village bubble. Had I remained there I know I would be a remainer because nothing would have possibly convinced me otherwise.

But I strongly believe in political transparency and freedom.... So I'm not sure but I would have been more on the fence...

Morethanthisprovincallife · 14/09/2018 21:48

Frumpty on the the even poorer people moving in next door

In the first instance if your life is shit... It's probably not the poor family moving in next door that might affect you. But a rogue landlord renting out his small houses to 30 immigrants who literally roll in and out might.

That's in terms of anti social behavior. The rubbish, probably one loo so people defecting in the garden? Rats... Parking issues, noise issues? Smoking parties etc.

This phenomenon has been and continues to be huge problems up and down UK.

As for blaming government I personally very much do.

I have seen the brits cannot function in the eu!! I cannot trust the people I voted for, when in the eu. So I want out. 😀😀

lljkk · 14/09/2018 23:51

About 58% Leave:42% Remain was result in my area.
In my area, 7% of residents are foreign born (I am one of the 7%).
I believe that foreign-born can include people who are British citizens by birth, btw, just born outside UK.
Anyone want to guess what the % of UK or English residents are foreign born?

Keep in mind there are areas in London that have >40%; those areas voted Remain of course.

frumpety · 15/09/2018 07:52

Morethan Birkenhead has a UK born population of over 95% (from the 2011 census ) and a tiny percentage of the rest is from the EU, so less than 1500 people. Has there been a bigger sudden influx in the years since the census ?

HMO's issues can be dealt with by the local council, has this happened ?

bellinisurge · 15/09/2018 08:06

"
But I strongly believe in political transparency and freedom.... So I'm not sure but I would have been more on the fence..."

And the only way to express this is by voting Leave?Hmm
And only Leave voters feel this way?Hmm
If you voted Remain, you aren't someone with true faith?

surferjet · 15/09/2018 08:26
