If there were to be a second referendum now, 52% would vote Remain and 48% Leave, an average of polls over the past three months suggests.

We must have a #peoplesvote on Brexit as the Brexit we are getting is not the one which was promised.

You imply you know how I voted?

Always thought that was supposed to be between the person and the ballot box?

If \ When the U.K. implodes the day after the leave date, a GE will be held, JC will get in and within a week, he will sort it out 😬

SoloD · 12/08/2018 18:17

The problem with the first referendum is that no one knew exactly what Brexit was, and the promises made by Leave

  • £350m a week for the NHS
  • Easy Free Trade deals with other countries
  • No impact on trade with the EU
  • No Divorce Bill
  • Faster growth and more money
  • More money for investment and science

Have all turned out to be false. It is perfectly rational to have another referendum.

What would be utterly wrong is to take this huge step against the will of the nation.

Then again, so was Project Fear

By all means, have another Referendum, then sit back and watch the fireworks and the cries of the initial Referendum being ignored

People were given a choice, they voted, a case now of get on with it or call a GE / Referendum

sonlypuppyfat · 12/08/2018 18:45

Bunch of sore losers

Yaralie · 12/08/2018 18:52

Playground talk, typical of the small minded leavers.

cholka · 12/08/2018 18:53

I'm disgusted that it's only 52-48 to be honest, what are people thinking? Brexit is a colossal error, it will ruin the country and I hope the consequences are visited upon those who voted for it. May you have no nurses, no care assistants, crap food and lose your jobs.
I think getting the general public to vote on trade policy when they have not the foggiest idea about what it means makes no more sense than getting them to vote on the treatment someone should receive for cancer. The referendum was irresponsible and could only have worked if people were interested and educated enough to understand the intricacies of how trade works. They're not, so we're stuck with jingoistic morons taking the country down for the sake of some idiotic idea about going back to the 70s.

Yaralie · 12/08/2018 18:59

The latest poll is 53% Remain to 47% Leave

rainingcatsanddog · 12/08/2018 19:03

WE ALREADY HAD THE REFERENDUM SO IT DOESN'T MATTER!!

I live in an area which apparently would switch if there was a second referendum. No idea why when that's the but that's very interesting.

After the referendum, there was a lot of talk from the youth on social media and the Internet about "old" people shafting them by voting for Brexit. I'm assuming that this new "swing "isn't the non-voting youth voting next time.

Yaralie · 12/08/2018 19:06

Two years ago nobody knew what brexit meant. We still don't know. If we are ever told, then surely we must be entitled to decide whether the costs outweigh any benefits (I still don't know what they might be) and we should be entitled to vote to remain in the EU.

rosamundhopelovesdogs123 · 12/08/2018 19:21

I meet quite a lot of Remainers who now say they'd vote leave.
Your post sounds like wishful thinking.

UnnecessaryFennel · 12/08/2018 19:25

No you don't.

MedicinalGin · 12/08/2018 19:31

I have never met a single person who has voted to remain and now wants to leave.

MedicinalGin · 12/08/2018 19:37

I really can’t be doing with all these leave people who chime in with that classic line;

‘the people voted to leave, it’s democracy so you have to get over it.’

In a minute, I can pretty much guarantee that someone will be along to say that remainers are all smug, sore losers who panic over nothing and that it will all be fine. Their response is sooo predictable and soooo unqualified by any credible evidence that passes any scrutiny.

It’s like hitting yourself over the head with a daily mail, over and over and over again.

Makes me so furious.

Jason118 · 12/08/2018 19:40

No Engtech, just the balance of probabilities from your posts Smilebut whatever you do, don't answer the question

SoloD · 12/08/2018 19:49

@EngTech

There was no project fear, that was just something made up by Vote Leave.

What specifically did the Remain campaign say which you have issue with. If anything, what has actually happened is far worse than remain said it would be.

I was a leaver as was my DH. Both of us now regret our votes and would vote remain if there were to be a second referendum. I suspect my SIL feels the same way as well. I’m sure we are not alone and I suspect that there will be more people who regret voting leave than the other way around. I absolutely dread next March and although my vote was only one vote I contributed towards the outcome of the vote and I will have to live with the consequences of that. I admit it took me a long time to decide which way to vote and I wasn’t sure even on the day. I wish I had more time to decide.

SoloD · 12/08/2018 19:56

@sar501 I would not beat yourself up about it, as you said it was only one vote and you did what you honestly thought was the right choice at the time.

With more information, we can make a more informed choice, and this is what we have now. Good on you for being open.

I'm surprised that the swing towards Remain is not larger. How anyone in their right mind can still think this chaotic Brexit is going to be a good thing, either for the UK as a nation or for themselves personally, is beyond me.

Parker231 · 12/08/2018 20:04

The Brexit referendum is no different to a General Election. Both sides tell lies to try and win but whatever the outcome of the vote, democracy dictates that the party with the majority of the votes, is the winner.

sar501 · 12/08/2018 20:10

80smum I’m sure that there are loads of people who regret voting leave. They probably don’t like to admit that they were wrong or are they are in denial.

Jason118 · 12/08/2018 20:11

So Parker, in 5 years we can have another go, guaranteed?

CaptainBrickbeard · 12/08/2018 20:19

To justify the Leave cheating and lies with the defence that all politicians lie is not acceptable. We should be holding them to higher standards and making them accountable, not just blithely accepting it. Also, the consequences of leaving are far more severe and long lasting than the consequences of a General Election. The Leave campaign lies about everything and Brexit as it looks now is unrecognisable from what they were promoting. The failure in democracy is the terrible, greedy, misleading Leave campaign designed solely to further enrich a tiny wealthy elite at the expense of the rest of the country. Upholding that makes a mockery of democracy.

usernamealreadytaken · 12/08/2018 20:23

@MedicinalGin I've never met a single person who voted to leave that would now choose to remain. I have, however, met many remain voters who believed that "lets fund our NHS" was akin to a contract to provide £350m on the day after voting to leave, whereas every single leave voter I have discussed with took it to mean "let's direct some money to the NHS and other things of our choosing once we're not paying subs to the EU club any longer". Anecdotal evidence is not fact. HTH.

Yaralie · 12/08/2018 20:26

80smum you might be surprised because you are looking at the evidence, at the facts, but unfortunately there are a lot of leave voters who seem to be emotionally committed to brexit, even if you could show conclusively that it would be very harmful to them personally, their families and the country.

They have been brainwashed by the shady operators of the leave campaign and the right-wing tabloids. They only think in slogans and the worse it gets the more they will blame the EU for every catastrophe.

jasjas1973 · 12/08/2018 20:45

Please show a little intelligence, we can change our minds and vote differently at the next GE every 5 years or every 2 years if you are T.May or are you suggesting we should just have a GE every 50 years?

Its perfectly logical to have a vote on the deal, accept, reject or remain, its democracy in action but i'd not want a re run of the 2016 vote.
