Scared by the prepping threads?

Should we be scared?

Do you have reassurance to offer?

Heinz or Branston?

There's a bread factory near me, so we can make some sandwiches for the picnic!

rainbowsandsmiles · 29/07/2018 23:55

Beyond - this is beginning to sound brilliant. Everyone in need of cheering up and escaping from their wood dwelling can come and have a picnic with us. We have sandwiches and biscuits sorted already and we're only just starting the thread! Anybody got any crisps or makes their own blackcurrant squash or whatever to bring along?!

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 29/07/2018 23:56

Crisps? Someone must live in Ashby-de-la-zouch, surely? (actually, are walkers still there now?)

rainbowsandsmiles · 30/07/2018 00:01

No idea, hope they are though! If not, I was watching a fantastic youtube vid the other day on how to make your own crisps from potato peelings, they sounded really nice actually! In the absence of Walkers, we can make do and mend.) Got lots of fancy salt and spices here to make them even tastier.

UpstartCrow · 30/07/2018 00:02

I make ginger beer. I will have to grow my own ginger next year though.

rainbowsandsmiles · 30/07/2018 00:04

My Dad makes his own wine. I need to ask him for lessons, I'm hopeless and just nip out to Sainsbury's or Aldi. Am on it.

rainbowsandsmiles · 30/07/2018 00:05

On it as in asking him, just to clarify Grin

keyboardkate · 30/07/2018 00:10

This is how our Government can do what they like.

There is no one to challenge them really .

FPTP has to be the most undemacrotic thing ever. IMV

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/07/2018 00:13

keyboard you are absolutely right there.
My main concern is people who’s lives are going to be turned upside down.
I appreciate that we’re all going to be affected but some more than others

leavemenowornever · 30/07/2018 00:15

I used to live in York.

A few years ago the city flooded badly just after Christmas.

The telephone exchange flooded. For several hours, our telephone line and WiFi were down. We could also not get a signal on our TV.

Before the internet went down I had seen on Twitter that card payments in shops, and ATMs, were affected too. It felt quite scary.

The point is that this was an unexpected effect of the flooding which in itself disrupted access to the city. The unexpected DOES happen and it would be foolish not to have a couple of extra days’ food basics, and a bit of cash for emergencies in the house, if possible.

*a bit of cash in the house in case of emergencies

I live near a biscuit and a bacon factory so I have both sweet and savoury covered. Also at least three pasty bakeries in my vicinity. Although the biscuit factory only bakes a few times a year as they make posh overpriced biscuits for the tourists so I can't guarantee the biccies.

We also have a factory which makes ikea furniture even though we don't have an ikea any where near so we might be ok for Swedish style furniture at least.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/07/2018 00:29

I believe Adrian Mole hailed from Ashby de la Zouch. Aaaaaah Sue Townsend........gone too soon

rainbowsandsmiles · 30/07/2018 00:29

Susan - the furniture factory sounds great. It's all very well fashioning seats out of twigs and branches but might get a bit pokey bottom like after a while.

keyboardkate · 30/07/2018 00:29

Aint nothing.

I just feel it is not good. NO positive vibes for me and and my family anyway. Nothing positive coming from the Tory/Dup government is there

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/07/2018 00:31

No keyboard it’s scary and bleak

rainbowsandsmiles · 30/07/2018 00:35

leavemenow - that sounds sensible, that's just common sense to do that. I remember the York flood, you couldn't get in or out well if at all and the Grand Opera House near the river had to close at one point (near Christmas time right? Affected the pantomime performances as foyer was under water ) Stockpiling a few tins to feel safer, sensible. Mass panicking, not.

hellololly · 30/07/2018 00:42

I feel honoured to be providing the biscuits for this picnic, should we have a central point to meet in case the phone lines go down?

leavemenowornever · 30/07/2018 00:45

Ah yes, rainbows I’d forgotten about that, the whole side street next to it had flooded, such a shame for the pantomime.

rainbowsandsmiles · 30/07/2018 00:51

Hellololly - somewhere central! Erm, right, hang on ..... somewhere both far North and far south can get too easily. Any suggestions?

keyboardkate · 30/07/2018 01:03

If we had voted to stay would there be any of this trauma going on.

I am guessing NO.

So explain this Brexit for me now, and give me a reason to leave.

Guessing that I will be waiting for that.

rainbowsandsmiles · 30/07/2018 01:09

I'm guessing no too, as precisely nothing would have changed so there'd be nothing new to worry about or any upcoming potential changes. We'd have just trundled along as usual.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/07/2018 01:47

rainbows are you a politician?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 30/07/2018 01:53

keyboard there is no answer because it’s all a hideous nightmare. It’s a mistake of epic proportions and the shit is about to hit the fan.
We will get our answers when we actually leave.
And before you open your blowhole rainbows
I am listening,
Please say something of value here.
Ps I’m fucking listening
