To be scared by our apathy?

Threads on here discussing how best to stockpile food, the government telling us not to panic but at the same time making the kind of plans we shouldn’t see in peace time.

All of this is self inflicted. Largely down to our politicians worrying more about their parties than the rest of us. Austerity making us feel poorer and running down our services. Now the scary reality of next March is getting closer by the minute.

Countries have managed to royally fuck themselves before up by blindly believing the government will sort it out before. Ask yourself do you really believe that all those 650 MPs in parliament are either competent or working in your best interests?

but... its not too late

Many believe it’s a done deal with no turning back. But it can be stopped. Here’s the proof.

Speaking on the BBC Radio Today programme this morning, French Europe Minister Nathalie Loiseau confirmed that the door “remains open" to the UK, and that we could stay in the EU “on the same terms”.

Commenting, Lord (John) Kerr, the architect of Article 50 and a leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:
“It’s up to us. There would be no price – political or financial – to pay if we took back the Article 50 letter, as the French Europe Minister today confirmed we can.
“The people should have the right to choose. They deserve their vote, once the present negotiation with the EU ends.”

We all need to making our thoughts and voices heard on this. Please dont’t leave it to others - its all our futures and those of our kids.

So write to your MP, sign the facebook petition and take back control!

The only chance this country has is if we make Brexit a success

No kidding. Everybody knows that.

What absolutely nobody knows is how the fuck to make it anything other than the utter shitshow that it currently is, and I include the government in that.

SoloD · 26/07/2018 16:32

How do we make Brexit a success, we will be worse off after Brexit than before brexit. It's pretty simple.

Simply repeating tired old mantras is not going to help

CardinalSin · 26/07/2018 17:03

Star If you really can't be arsed to find out why Brexit is going to be a total shit storm then there's no point in focusing my campaigning on you. I'd rather talk to those whose heads aren't so far up their own arses that they will look at facts rather than make up illogical arguments to vote against their own interests. Simples.

vandrew4 · 26/07/2018 17:15

cardinal what you actually mean is "I'm right, I'm right" fingers in ears.

SacrebleuLondres · 26/07/2018 17:21

@vandrew4

The thing is ... @CardinalSin is right. She bothers to collect facts and analyse. You don't.

Simples.

frumpety · 26/07/2018 17:27

I guess we need you to define success fangirl , I am going to set the bar low and go for no-one dies.

Dapplegrey · 26/07/2018 17:28

am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that violence is underrated as a means to political change

Motortrader what form will this violence take? Bombing MPs who support Brexit? Physically attacking anyone who has spoken publicly in favour of Brexit?
Certainly violence can bring about political change - Stalin and the Nazi party both used it with success.

frumpety · 26/07/2018 17:28

Not, not ever obviously , I am in no way suggesting Brexit is some form of elixir of life, just not as an actual result of Brexit Grin

DGRossetti · 26/07/2018 17:30

A good start would be for two Leavers to go off (no conferring) and return with a matching list of what "out" looks like to 4 key points.

Never been done, I tell you.

frumpety · 26/07/2018 17:30

Dapplegrey killing MP's who don't support your view on life , I think the UK has been there and done that and everyone decided it was a very very shit thing.

RedneckStumpy · 26/07/2018 17:44

My history teacher always told us that violence does solve problems

callmeadoctor · 26/07/2018 17:44

Mmmmm where has OP gone? Grin

Walkingdeadfangirl · 26/07/2018 17:50

Hate to disappoint but it doesn't look like Brexit is going to happen
If that is what happens, do you think it all will go back to the UK we had in 2014. No fall out? Back to paying the EU £20 Billion a year, happy with unlimited immigration, a tolerant multicultural society, UKIP representing us in Brussels, companies seeing us as a good place to invest for the future, obeying every order the EU issues, and so on ...?

Fantasy.

Heatherjayne1972 · 26/07/2018 18:03

Violence is not the way forward
But I do think we should all bombard our local member of parliament with emails and letters to tell them how disgusted we are with the current government and what may happen next March/April - stockpiling food fuel medicines etc In peacetime (whatever their own opinions are )
They work for us after all

Surely they are obliged to act if enough people complain

Quietrebel · 26/07/2018 18:08

fangirl that £20b figure is a proven lie as it doesn't take the debate into account. It's more like £8.5b.

SacrebleuLondres · 26/07/2018 18:08

@Walkingdeadfangirl

Yep. And by the way we pay £12bn. It's a bargain. A rounding error for all we get in exchange.

Quietrebel · 26/07/2018 18:08

*Rebate

Justanotherlurker · 26/07/2018 18:11

Do people actually read the articles and evaluate them or just take the headline and run with it.

Britain has lost 65,000 retail jobs since Brexit vote

The fact the high street has been dying for years as businesses move out of bricks and mortar and was understood before brexit:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35681474

So to the article:

Data compiled by IHS for Visa (V) show that spending in U.K. brick-and-mortar stores dropped 3.5% over the previous year in November. It was the seventh consecutive monthly decline, and one of the biggest drops since 2012.

But as shopping habits have changed:

Meanwhile, online spending was 2.4% higher in November.

But stick Brexit in there and people will just lap it up.

www.theguardian.com/business/2018/apr/11/tough-year-high-street-internet-shopping-weak-pound

If you try and make tenuous links it weakens the argument.

SacrebleuLondres · 26/07/2018 18:13

@Quietrebel: You are right. It's £8 bn not £12bn

Dapplegrey · 26/07/2018 18:14

Dapplegrey killing MP's who don't support your view on life , I think the UK has been there and done that and everyone decided it was a very very shit thing.

Frumpety it wasn't my idea, I was answering motortrader who said she thought violence was the best way to stop Brexit.
My answer was sarcastic - of course I don't support violence as a solution to stoppingng Brexit and I'm amazed that motortrader's comment advocating it hasn't provoked more response.

Maybe many of the posters secretly agree with her/him.

Quietrebel · 26/07/2018 18:15

The digital revolution is a factor, yes. Brexit won't make a positive difference though.

Quietrebel · 26/07/2018 18:16

Brexit isn't the root of all evil but where it doesn't create the problems, I can't see how it will help us find solutions.

frumpety · 26/07/2018 18:26

Not I Dapplegrey , and actually I was supporting your argument against violence , see we can agree Smile

Dapplegrey · 26/07/2018 18:38

My apologies frumpety.
