May has officially demoted Raab and the Brexit Department to just being responsible for practical implimentation in the UK and not negogitions.

This shouldn't be a surprise, its been the case in reality for some time, much to David Davis annoyance.

The official government position now seems to be scare the shit out of everyone about the possibility of No Deal in order to force the EU to make a deal. Jeremy Hunt has been dutifully spelling this out, by talking about an 'accidental' Brexit.

The government are already outsourcing responsibility for this potential eventuality to industy and business by telling them they need to stockpile food in order to keep supply lines going. This WILL mean price rises will start to happen soon. It also means there is no coordinated government plan and if businesses can't afford to do this as its heavily dependant on having sufficient cash flow in reserve to be able to do it, or don't want to, then you, me and everyone else is going to be well and truly on their own. Whilst the public are not being told to stockpile, its hard to justify not doing so, if this is the current government line.

The government has also done a u-turn on when the repeal of the European Communities Act will come into force. They fought hard to have it fixed for 29th March 2019. Thats now been rolled back to Dec 2020. This is fine, but in practice, makes no difference what so ever if we have no deal or the EU refuse to honour a transition deal on the terms the UK want. The ERG will also go nuts at it and try to get May to roll back on it.

Raab has also made a point of saying that if we don't have a deal by October (rather than midnight 29th March 2019) we are going into No Deal land by default.

Parliament has now broken up for the summer, with May surviving, so things are likely to be a little quieter for a few weeks, but come September this is all going to blow up with avengance.

If you think the last few weeks have been a rollercoaster, just wait for the Autumn.

Why is the non entity Robinson getting so much press?

At a guess because it plays into the MSM right wing agenda to exacerbate racial tensions by playing into the "poor Tommy" narrative that his cretinous "supporters" have been spinning since day one.

Note the lack of any questioning about that previous text. It's a statement, not a suggestion.

Cailleach1 · 01/08/2018 13:43

Why does "Robinson" adopting an alias surname? Or various one in the past, I believe. He states that his parents were Irish immigrants to Britain. The irony.

This is long but worth a look:

Brexit Britain is fed up with experts. These days we only listen to the bloke down the pub. So in this controlled experiment, we put three experts in a pub and recorded the results for your viewing pleasure.

Graham Hughes is the first (and so far only) person to visit every country in the world without flying. He knows his Aarhus from his El Salvador.

Jason Hunter is an international trade negotiator who has made deals around the world worth billions. His knowledge of the sector is as comprehensive as it is informed.

Ciaran Donovan is LBC's famous "White Van man", the guy who took on Jacob Rees-Mogg live on air. He's driven over a million miles around Europe, crossed every border. There's not much about logistics, cargo, shipping and just-in-time deliveries he doesn't know.

In this episode, we talk about the nitty-gritty of this "No Deal" Brexit people are currently getting either horrified or excited about, depending on how much attention they paid in school.

So we could be at least £500worse off even with a soft Brexit.
Am I the only one to think this should scare people off the idea of a hard brexit that will costs us so so much more?
See the reductions in spending Hammond wants to introduce too.... NHS, benefits etc etc

HermioneGoesBackHome · 01/08/2018 14:53

Anyone seen the thread in IABU about planes not been able to fly in the 30th March?

The bottom line is being in the EU has reduced costs for everything. (It's why we did it).

It's not fucking rocket science to work out that leaving the EU must increase costs.

Just taking food (for example). It costs (an awful lot) to store food. Which goes on the price of food. If you can avoid storing food, you save money and food is cheaper.

Anyone who cannot understand that should not be allowed near scissors. And certainly not near a vote that affect other people.

there's a few threads where Brexit needs to be mentioned. I noticed another about getting different brands of medicines, since it's accepted wisdom there are clinical differences. Guess what is already fucking up the supplies ?

RedToothBrush · 01/08/2018 15:04

Hermoine, I don't know, but I hope it says very active in AIBU as long as possible.

There is definitely a group of people who really, really don't want any spoilers about what's coming next year, isn't there?

Mistigri · 01/08/2018 15:32

AIBU is full of posts that could be elsewhere. I might start reporting everything that belongs in another sub-forum.

DGRossetti · 01/08/2018 15:47

Isn't it funny how the humour cannon doesn't work for Brexit ?

Passport union mentioned by North here:

www.eureferendum.com/blogview.aspx?blogno=86605

In EU terms, to facilitate the entry of third country citizens to the EU, the passport issuing countries must appear on a permitted list, currently established by Decision No 1105/2011/EU, with a list of the recognised documents in respect of each country. Details can be accessed through a dedicated Council Website. An example of the actual list here, with the Schengen list here. The list is routinely updated by a Commission Implementing decision.

For a person from a third country to be able to enter the European Union without complications, the country that issued their travel documents must appear on this list. As Decision 1105/2011 helpfully states, "a Member State's failure to notify its position with regard to a travel document may cause problems to holders of that travel document".

Link to EC webpage here:

www.consilium.europa.eu/prado/en/prado-recognised-documents.html

The list of travel documents which entitle the holder to cross the external borders and which may be endorsed with a visa, divided into three parts, as well as the non-exhaustive list of known fantasy and camouflage passports, are drawn up by the European Commission with the assistance of EU Member States and Schengen Associated States on the basis of information gathered within the framework of local Schengen cooperation, as established by Decision No 1105/2011/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 October 2011

Why hasn’t the AIBU to be worried about the normalisation of far right politics? been moved to the Politics board?

DGRossetti · 01/08/2018 16:01

Why hasn’t the AIBU to be worried about the normalisation of far right politics? been moved to the Politics board?

Or with the word "Brexit" appearing 99 times (thus far) here ?

Let's remember Hanlons razor first ....

Buteo · 01/08/2018 16:03

Fantasy passports = ones issued by population groups, minorities, sects, individuals, private organisations etc

Camouflage passports = passports issued by states no longer in existence

Plus ones issued by states not internationally recognised

PineappleSunrise · 01/08/2018 16:05

Give them time.
