Westministenders: High Drama at The Ok Coral

3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 1881, Tombstone, Arizona.

After months of death threats from the Cowboy Billys, their long simmering feud with the law thing came to a head. The Earp Brothers and Doc Holliday faced the criminals down in a shootout.

Tomorrow's 'sleepover' is starting to feel like the Gunfight at the OK Coral.

The outcome of the real story was three of the outlaws were killed. Another two claimed they were unarmed and ran from the fight. Virgil, Morgan, and Doc Holliday were wounded, but Wyatt Earp was unharmed.

How many Brexiteers can we expect to roll over and resign from the Cabinet and how many will surrender to May and the Pro-Business lobby? ONly time will tell.

Please place your bets for the number of resignations and the number of 'I support the PM' comments.

But don't get too excited. The showdown wasn't the end of the matter.

One of the outlaws who legged it, filed murder charges against the Earps and Doc Holliday. It took them some time for them to be acquitted.

Then Virgil Earp was ambushed and disabled in the arm later that year in December and Morgan Earp was assassinated in March 1882. Wyatt Earp, then thinking he had no other option, went on a personal vendetta to kill the outlaws and then fled the state.

Given the Tory Cabinet and the perchant for stabbing each other in the back and settling personal scores, a repeat of a wild west gun fight, really doesn't sound too wildly off the cards now does it?

Buckle up. Its time to play at Chequers.

Pimms anyone?🍹

Heyduggeesflipflop · 09/07/2018 18:39

Pineapple

Yes sorry I am off script

Presumably being on script is allowing the eu to bully us until we fold and have as many referenda as it takes to get the ‘right’ answer

PineappleSunrise · 09/07/2018 18:39

I'm thinking we should invite Richard North and his blog's commenters round for a "Holy Hell, What Is This Useless Bunch of Brexit Fundamentalists and Their Enablers Trying To Do to This Poor Country" pub evening. We may well span the entire political spectrum, but we'll all be united in that one message. Have you seen the comments on his blog today?

Heyduggeesflipflop · 09/07/2018 18:42

I’m not sure who Richard North is, but I would be surprised if he wished to talk to a minority of remain voters. Presumably he would want to talk to the more mainstream leavers

PineappleSunrise · 09/07/2018 18:42

OMG look at this - from the Telegraph:

The EU is a bitter cacophony of conflicting voices. May cannot rely on it to support her deal

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/07/09/eu-bitter-cacophony-conflicting-voices-may-cannot-rely-support/

The lack of self-awareness is almost sublime.

Pimms anyone?🍹Thanks elements Anyone had any rain at all this week?

prettybird · 09/07/2018 18:45

I'm glad my raised beds are starting to produce veg and I've just made a batch of jam from my own raspberries Smile I'm hoping that there is still plenty of sugar beet being grown in the UK so I will still be able to make it next year - but I can always stock up in advance of 29 March before the shelves empty Wink

We've acquired an old greenhouse (used to be dh's dad's), so I've got tomatoes, courgettes and cucumbers coming on nicely.

In the mean time, here is a nice graph to show that May lied to misled Parliament today about how FDI was was still really strong. you know, facts and all that Wink

And another picture of my raspberries before they turned into 10 jars of jam, just to cheer everyone up Grin

I was considering a poly tunnel earlier this year, but I'm glad I held off. My cucumbers would be toast under plastic in this weather.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/07/2018 18:47

Get yourself a eu passport while you still can is my advice.

Got an Irish one thanks.

Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.'

The trolls are not quite as resilient as they think but I take your point.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/07/2018 18:48

I'm staggered a genuine, serious (British) Leaver doesn't know:

Richard North is a prominent Leaver who has campaigned for 30 years to leave the Common Market, EEC, EC, now EU
He worked for Farage and for Owen Patterson
His daily blog, which is the most reliable source around on Brexit and EU rules, gets about 100k hits per month

Sadly there is just the smallest grain of truth in Heydugs wild ranting. IF some Tories (or indeed anyone) had engaged Lawyers to look at the possibility of leaving the EU and researched it then it would have been possible. The process would have taken several YEARS to complete and it would have had have been done in complete secrecy and a carefully crafted plan presented BEFORE even mentioning A50. All sticking points with the EU would have had to be planned out with practical responses.
What actually happened is a few months of talking bollocks then triggering A50, then the worst of all realising that hardly any of what had been said was actually achievable. It may come as a shock to the likes of Heydugg that the world is a pretty big place and the UK is only a very small part of it. You could drop the UK into the middle of Australia or Brazil and no one would find it again, and given the all to frequent 'entitled' attitudes of some 'British' others wouldn't bother looking.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 09/07/2018 18:51

54321

Why is everything you write such legalese sophistry?

PineappleSunrise · 09/07/2018 18:52

Well sure, that's why I started reading Richard North in the first place: I was quite interested to find a plan for Brexiting that was actually realistic, and clearly backed up by a lot of research.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 09/07/2018 18:53

Steady pineapple - this is the wrong thread for suggesting Brexit had any workable outcome...

54321 will be along shortly to explain why in 5000 (or more) words written in the finest jargonese...

frankiestein401 · 09/07/2018 18:54

keep this quiet, but i've mislaid the list of brexit benefits we've been keeping secret from the brexiteers. If hey finds it we're in trouble, it was on the back of a raffle ticket so hopefully s/he won't think to look, sorry people.

My gast is well and truly flabbered ...

TheElementsSong · 09/07/2018 18:55

54321 How dare you sound even remotely (shudder) expert? Don't you know that makes you a patronising elitist Remoaner? The only Brexitly correct way to interact with the world is in short, empty slogans! Grin

PineappleSunrise · 09/07/2018 18:55

Shame no-one in government is at all bothered by realistic, workable Brexit plans. Crashing the country while they feather their nests is clearly more their style.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/07/2018 18:56

Steady pineapple - this is the wrong thread for suggesting Brexit had any workable outcome...

You'd probably find that most remainers would have welcomed a workable outcome. No chance of that with the current government.

woman11017 · 09/07/2018 18:57

Raspberries look gorgeous prettybird pineapplesunrise grass is going white here. My wee olive tree in a pot seems happy in this heat and I think the sun has made a dormant( for 2 years) tropical plant inherited from late MIL flower. We call it the toilet brush plant, not sure what its grown up name is. It looks like this.

Being able to write in sentences and have a coherent argument isn't really legalese sophistry, sorry 54321. It's really just a sensible starting point for any discussion.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 09/07/2018 18:58

Hmmm

54321 is an expert you say?

Or just someone who happens to agree with your minority worldview..,

OlennasWimple · 09/07/2018 19:00

Other threads are available, Hey, if this one isn't to your liking

TheElementsSong · 09/07/2018 19:00

Didn't you get the memo? It's not just legalese sophistry, it's elitist patronising middle-class Remoaning legalese sophistry!
