Things just got scary.

The colony of US puppet state or a vassel state of the EU?

Why not just let market forces take their course and let Russia buy the UK?

How did we get to stories of spies and mafia who buy politicians?

Just who are our enemies and allies?

Won't someone think of the effect on house prices in Salisbury?

Try not to don your foil hat, brace yourself and resist shouting 'money laundering too loud'.

More turbulence ahead.

Brexit still seems like such a cracking idea doesn't it?

18% think Corbyn has handled Salisbury aftermath well

Party and age break down on that is important. Will be interesting to see in full

Amongst Labour voters in this week’s YouGov poll, how did they judge Corbyn’s handing of the aftermath of Salisbury incident
38% well
18% badly
44% dk

Thats better for Corbyn than I expected.

As far as the court of public opinion is concerned, Putin is to blame. Three-quarters of YouGov respondents blame the Russia state for the chemical attack

That's better than I expected, too, Red. BUT there is surely something hidden there in the term "Labour voters". People who are thinking of voting Labour next time or people who voted Labour last time.

What I think might be hidden there is whether recent events have influenced how people were feeling of voting.

Maybe?

Because that is higher than I would have imagined. There is a big difference there between general population (of YouGov respondents) and sub-population (YouGov respondents identified as Labour voters).

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2018 22:28

Labour voters are 2017 labour voters.

I think the thing you are looking for is how the don't know level compares to the don't know level of other parties.

To date, the dont know hovering over Labour in yougov polling is noticeable and significant.

That number strikes me as another one to add to the list.

If im right it represents a serious mistrust of corbyn but no confidence or like for the tories or lds.

Its the labour centrist vote.

Thats why I say the full figures tomorrow will be more interesting than these headlines.

A Russia Today presenter is on Question Time today. What the actual fuck.

Sostenueto · 15/03/2018 22:57

Yes question time interesting. Kier Stammer supporting government. Love the the line all evidence proving its Russia will come later..........

thecatfromjapan · 15/03/2018 22:58

Thanks, Quentin. I'm just a mother (enough with that 'just') and a very non-politics-related job (when not ill). I think Red does the serious work that I associate with people who are really good at politics. As do a lot of you on this thread. I'm always amazed by you - all of you. It keeps me coming back to this thread - despite the occasional inclination to stick my head in the sand and pretend it's not happening.

So, again, thanks to everyone on this thread. You're a light. And a cup of tea. And a biscuit. And a hand-hold. And a conversation. And a gathering of kindred flames.

Sostenueto · 15/03/2018 23:00

Well not all in agreement then...

European council member worried about backlash for Baltic countries because of USA German and French support for UK.

Harry Cole @ mrharrycole
On tape passed to Sun, cabinet office aide tells EU diplomats that UK could pay into PESCO- dubbed EU Army by critics - and concede eu military officials will be stationed in Whitehall forever.

Oh my. This.

We leave the EU. And join the EU army anyway.

Russia today panellist made a good point about our reliance on energy from Russia which has put the security of this country at risk and blames the government for this.

ALittleAubergine · 15/03/2018 23:13

Watching qt, I wonder if this could mean more government funding for security services? Police? I know there was a senior police official who warned that cuts have led to decreased security. Probably just wishful thinking from my part..

Russia wants to expand. We are just a toy Putin plays with while he figures out how to get the Baltic's.

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2018 23:19

Portadown has already been given extra budget this week.

I think we might be able to improve our defence capability if not as much of the security services were not outsourced to private firms.

My mind has boggled at a couple of the jobs DH has been suggested he go to interview with for national security. (Computer based).

Incidentally the last one was so dreadful in how they were treating him before he got to the interview he told them where to stick it.

Its not really filled me with confidence.
