Westminstenders: From Russia with Love

Things just got scary.

The colony of US puppet state or a vassel state of the EU?

Why not just let market forces take their course and let Russia buy the UK?

How did we get to stories of spies and mafia who buy politicians?

Just who are our enemies and allies?

Won't someone think of the effect on house prices in Salisbury?

Try not to don your foil hat, brace yourself and resist shouting 'money laundering too loud'.

More turbulence ahead.

Brexit still seems like such a cracking idea doesn't it?

Threat to transition deal: Scottish MPs threaten to vote down final Brexit deal as row over fishing rights escalates

Ruth Davidson siding with Scottish Tories over this.
Promising to regain total control over fishing stocks & vessels was key to some Scottish Tory gains last GE

Ruth Davidson siding with Scottish Tories over this.
And another Scottish tory has suggested he'll back her. Can't remember his name.
Does look like BINO for now, mother Will be some cross DUP and brexit bunnies.

mrsreynolds · 19/03/2018 17:47

Brexit:

It's damaging to the economy
It's unworkable
It's divisive
It's pointless

So...

Let's just stop it, eh?

Icantreachthepretzels · 19/03/2018 17:48

for example Brain Gym.

Now in fairness, Brain Gym is excellent if the kids finish their work early and you have ten minutes to kill Grin

Am I right in thinking that the number of Scottish tories in Westminster outnumber the DUP? So if the Scottish mps don't play ball there's nothing the govt can do? Interesting ...

lonelyplanetmum · 19/03/2018 17:48

Is it just me or is the right wing press having a cow in reaction to this transition agreement?

woman At first glance, little for non-expats except that EU rights remain until 31 Dec 2020
AND

  • only relevant for those who are able - Brits can move to the E27 until that date if they wish and in practical terms if they find a job can wangle that into 5 years and then permanent residence

motherof4 Far from safe:

  • The transition deal still has mostly white-coded areas, i.e. awaiting agreement
So the Ultras could still block the transition deal

  • It may get voted down in Parliament, or May could even renege before then, as she did last December when the DUP & ERG pulled her strings

  • There may still be no deal after 31 Dec 2020 - i.e. disaster for the UK postponed, not averted - if the DUP & ERG are still pulling the govt strings then.
The E27 though, should have completed the infrastructure, supply chain, market changes etc they will need to avoid significant damage.

mrsreynolds · 19/03/2018 17:54

Nothing on sky news at all

Isn't that a bit....odd?

BigChocFrenzy · 19/03/2018 17:58

pretzels The news about Scottish Tories is worrying:
because the EU requires the UK obligations, which includes fishing, to remain during the transition, in order to receive the rights

They are yet another group who could prevent a transition deal (although maybe not as serious as others)
i.e. Scottish Tories seem to be a problem in addition to the DUP, not a counterweight to them

because of what Ruth promised to get them elected last GE.

BigChocFrenzy · 19/03/2018 18:00

Maybe May will bung £1 billion to the Scottish fishing communities …

woman11017 · 19/03/2018 18:00

There may still be no deal after 31 Dec 2020
Delayed cliff edge. Breaks up UK. Plenty of time to make such utter *s of ourselves that no sane country will want to be in any sort of alliance with us.
Charles Tannock

@CharlesTannock
Good there are plenty of of sensible Tories who realise that the scale of false promises made and a narrow victory means the country is still very divided and a #FinalSay might just settle it.Charles Tannock added,

@JohnRentoul
Survation poll of Tory voters finds they back a 2nd referendum by 46% to 30% www2.politicalbetting.com/index.php/archives/2018/03/19/new-survation-con-voter-poll-finds-that-50-say-brexit-should-go-ahead-even-if-the-deal-threatened-jobs-and-living-standad/
but in that poll:
New Survation CON voter poll finds that 50% say Brexit should go ahead even if the deal threatened jobs and living standad Confused

Yes, and often overlooked that May only got the seats she did because of the good showing of the Scottish Tories.

Off to the new thread - see you there.

BigChocFrenzy · 19/03/2018 18:15

SNP fishing spokesman (putting the boot in to the Tories):

"The Tories have sold out the Scottish fishing industry once again and Ruth Davidson should be shame-faced for her fastest broken Brexit promise yet.
Just last week she said ‘Britain will leave the CFP as of March 2019’.

Now we know not only will the UK have to abide by CFP rules during the transition period, it will lose the voting rights it has now.
The Tories have delivered the worst possible outcome for Scotland’s fishing industry."
