Just remember that women are more likely to be worried about Brexit.

Their women's and workers rights are more at risk from departure from the EU, the ECJ and potentially the EHCR.
They are more likely to be worried as EU citizens in the UK due to taking time to have and raise families.
They are more likely to have been badly affected by austerity and an economic downturn will hit them first.
If they are leavers they are more likely to have changed their minds.
They are less likely to be MPs so have less representation.
They are more likely to be feeling politically unrepresented by any party and unsure of who they will vote for at the next election.
They are more likely to get abuse for expressing a political opinion. Many report having been subjected to sexual harassment from political colleagues.
They are more likely to be the target of abuse on social media.
They are earn less than their political colleagues, they earn less than their media colleagues, they earn less than their business colleagues. They are less likely to be in powerful lobby groups.

Then there's #metoo

And to cap it off women's groups are finding it hard to get their voice heard, and are frequently being labelled as hysterical or bigoted for merely wanting to discuss things and be reassured that their fears are acknowledged. They are frequently dismissed as liars or over sensitive.

This is 2018.

It doesn't feel progressive. It doesn't look equal.

Brexit has more of an impact on women.

I will be cold and buried, before this country is back to rights again.

Let's hope that doesn't affect my judgement in the coming years and decades.

Got the articles the wrong way round Blush

TalkinPeace · 08/03/2018 15:08

It would all be funny were it not so sad.

DD is at Uni - doing Erasmus next year. The combination of stress over her placement in mainland Europe and the lecturer strikes so she has gaps in her Lab record is pushing her (and many thousands like her) to the edge of tears every day.

She voted in the referendum a few weeks after her 18th Birthday.
Old folk really struggle to understand HOW angry she is
I count myself as old .... she will not even talk about Brexit or let me joke about it to her--

DGRossetti · 08/03/2018 15:10

In addition to my comment upthread, DS21 will probably be retiring before we get back on an even keel.

Did you see this clip from Panorama? No wonder we're in such a mess.

Thanks, Red. Here we all are again.

Mimpi
I heard it on the radio. And it does not surprise me at all.

I deal with the local Tory group in a town with LOTS of sheltered flats (and I mean LOTS )
The town voted out. The Tory group campaign for Brexit the MP is the king of we swivel eyed loons.
But now they are struggling to find care workers to look after their parents in the flats and homes
there are no British born young workers - its a retirement town - and the immigrants know they are not welcome so have moved to friendlier places .....

Stormont sources suggest more than £400M of DUP’s confidence and supply money will be included in budget to be announced later this afternoon

DGRossetti · 08/03/2018 16:18

Sorry, but Smile.

If I were a lot younger, I'd be visiting as part of a 6th form media studies project, and troll them, by asking how happy they are with Brexit.

MimpiDreams · 08/03/2018 16:24

Just when you thought we couldn't be any more fucked ... the EU suspends Brexit talks until Britain sorts its shit out:

Predicted on these very threads, I believe.

Just out of interest, how many Brexiteer predictions have come true ?

I would have seen the news sooner, only I was on the BBC "news" site Hmm

They still have their heads FIRMLY in the sand. They have convinced themselves that the magic money tree will make it better after March next year. The MP still rants for a hard WTO Brexit
I tend not to say anything as otherwise my bills will not get paid but I watch and listen Grin

Sostenueto · 08/03/2018 16:31

The lack of care workers us not only less immigrants. My dd is a care worker, zero contract, minimum wage, ridiculous amount of work to do in a ridiculous amount of time ( half hour to get someone with dementia out if bed, showered, dressed, fed, meds, drinks and snacks prepared, bed changed, mess cleaned up, fill out forms make comfortable and safe) can't see any youngster wanting to work like that all day long, 12 hour shifts, no traveling time or even paid traveling time,oh and not forgetting the calls on your day off to cover shifts........

mrsreynolds · 08/03/2018 16:33

Get ready for some nasty anti Irish stuff coming our way...
😔😔😔

DGRossetti · 08/03/2018 16:35

All quiet on the western BBC front. They must be desperately rewriting the news to read the opposite of the situation.

Not sure why, really. All the need is a few cartoons for the Brexiteers. Words is for experts.

WifeofDarth · 08/03/2018 16:42

Sos The conditions for care workers is shocking. Another example of "women's work" being undervalued. I'd love to think that as supply of labour in the sector goes down then wages and conditions will improve, but there's no evidence of that happening yet - councils just wheedle out of their obligations and those who need care have to get by on fewer contact hours.

TalkinPeace · 08/03/2018 16:47

Sostenueto
Also, why would anybody want to be a care worker when there were ranty threads on MN last week about care workers not turning up to a posters Dad's house.
When it was pointed out that though his road might be clear, theirs might not be, all hell broke loose.

wifeofdarth
councils just wheedle out of their obligations and those who need care have to get by on fewer contact hours.
In my county, Adult social care costs the county council £1,200,000 a day and their budget from central government has been cut by 43% in the last 8 years
it is not physically possible to retain services that have rising demand with that level of cuts

thecatfromjapan · 08/03/2018 16:52

Care is going to be a huge issue post-Brexit. And it's kind of appropriate that it should be raised on this thread because I think the impact will be felt disproportionately by women.

Sostenueto My sister works as a Care Worker. And yes, most of her fellow workers are non-UK.

Sostenueto · 08/03/2018 16:53

Wifeofdarth, there simply is not enough money for social care to pay a decent wage. I did palliative care for almost 30 years and saw in that time the demand on the system increase, and the wages decrease along with the amount of time allowed to do your job. It has got far worse with private agencies who can sack you on the spot for no reason, no rights, no consideration etc. I suppose we must be grateful that they finally stopped the 15 minute visits, yes 15 minutes to do a lunch, meds and toilet the service user. If people really knew the extent of the crisis in care it would make their hair curl!

mrsreynolds · 08/03/2018 16:54

I've said it before
I'll say it again
Brexit was caused by the govts since 2010 pushing ahead with austerity measures

Cailleach1 · 08/03/2018 16:54

My council tax has gone up. And services have been pared back. They cite adult care as the issue. Funding has been cut. But there is still the servicing of an extortionate interest rate pfi .

DGRossetti · 08/03/2018 16:56

My council tax has gone up. And services have been pared back.

And these will be the years we remember fondly.
