Groundhog day is 2nd Feb.

Its also today. And yesterday. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before. And the day before.

We have all turned into Bill Murray.

That's Brexit in the UK.

The only progress seems to be linguistic gymnastics not policy.

No action has been implemented, we are still on words going nowhere.

Tick tock, tick tock.

Theresa May will hand out £1bn in 'cash for votes' DUP deal without Parliament's prior approval

Exclusive: MPs will only vote after the money has been granted – despite the Government conceding that ‘authorisation’ is needed

Boris Johnson has likened the challenge of avoiding a hard border in Northern Ireland to the boundaries between different boroughs of London.

Rupert Murdoch's Sky bid challenged by Comcast

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43209100?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc_breaking&ns_source=twitter&ns_linkname=news_central

Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox had already agreed an £18.5bn deal to buy the 61% of Sky it does not already own.

Comcast is the biggest US cable TV firm. It also owns the broadcast TV network NBC and Universal Pictures.

Comcast chief executive Brian Roberts called Sky "an outstanding company" and said he was "confident" the offer would be cleared by regulators.

Mr Roberts added: "We would like to own the whole of Sky and we will be looking to acquire over 50% of the Sky shares".

Comcast said its bid of £12.50 a share was 16% higher than the 21st Century Fox offer.

Sky's shares jumped more than 18% to above £13 in early trading on the London Stock Exchange.

Labour MPs are micro targeting EU nationals to ask them for their vote in the local election.

Why ?

Why would an EU national (raises hand, btw) vote for a party that has just re-committed itself to Brexit ?

This will come as no shock to any of you

Rupert Murdoch's Sky bid

Wasn't that posited as one of the "leave EU" pressures on Tories ?

He's denying that they were hired by Leave.eu despite Banks writing they were in Banks' book "Bad boys of brexit"

howabout · 27/02/2018 11:41

Interesting graph Bigchoc but it looks like mince, assuming I am interpreting it correctly? Suggests the non Lab/Con vote was split 50:50 Leave/Remain. The largest element of this is LibDem, followed by SNP so looks unlikely. Interestingly high percentage of non-EUref voters in the Labour column. I suspect the Parties are engaged in far more granular seat by seat analysis.

On local elections anything other than Labour sweeping the boards in London would be a negative for them. Wise to target EU Nationals to help this. Not sure they would be concentrated enough in other places to have an impact? In general Labour has far more to defend in May, given the seats up for election, so have more risk?

DGRossetti · 27/02/2018 11:47

Wise to target EU Nationals to help this

I am wondering how they would know whether a voter is EU or EU+UK registered ? Is usch data publically available ? And if so, should it be ?

SusanWalker · 27/02/2018 11:51

I am so ashamed that the EU are having to safeguard the good Friday agreement from the actions of our government.

howabout · 27/02/2018 12:01

The information is there on the electoral register, as they have different voting rights from UK Nationals. Not sure what access politicians / public have to it?

LondonMum8 · 27/02/2018 12:05

Good link. Looking at this otherwise slick guy's stuttering and general body language I'd say there is a 90% probability he is trying to deceive by saying "he wasn't personally involved in any campaign work".

LondonMum8 · 27/02/2018 12:05

... in the UK.

DGRossetti · 27/02/2018 12:07

The information is there on the electoral register, as they have different voting rights from UK Nationals.

Obviously there has to be a record somewhere, however

Not sure what access politicians / public have to it?

I'm not particularly thrilled if (as I don't know) it turns out that a political party - say UKIP, or the EDL - could pay a few pieces of silver and have a ready made list of EU nationals and their addresses Shock

DGRossetti · 27/02/2018 12:08

I am so ashamed that the EU are having to safeguard the good Friday agreement from the actions of our government.

Try and see the bright side. The ignorance of it is a great moron filter.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 27/02/2018 12:24

londonmum it is fascinating, covering Assange, leave.eu, Aaron Banks, Trump - though as you say, how much of what he's saying is the truth is questionable

DGRossetti · 27/02/2018 12:28

Assange

No matter what game of shifty character top trumps you are playing, you can't help but feel Assange completes a set somehow.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 27/02/2018 12:54

He certainly keeps very shady company

This is pretty extraordinary - Irish leader Varadkar urges Sinn Fein to take its seats in the House of Commons to “make things better” for Ireland - ie vote for a customs union/ in Withdrawal Deal vote via @thetimes www.thetimes.co.uk/article/take-commons-seats-and-defend-ireland-sinn-fein-is-urged-hc5p08x9r

@J_amesp
So it's a form of military psyops. Against a civilian population ?

@J_amesp
Correct.

DGRossetti · 27/02/2018 13:17

Irish leader Varadkar urges Sinn Fein to take its seats in the House of Commons

I'd expect the moronic Brexiteers to fail to grasp the implications of that, but surely he must know better ? There's no way on Gods Green Earth Sinn Fein would take the oath - not even if it were to lead to a Republic Britain.

Which makes me wonder who he's really signalling to ???

woman11017 · 27/02/2018 13:32

SF won't take instructions from Varadkar( or anyone) I would have thought.
Having crisps and eating them: Grin

Westministenders: Groundhog Day
prettybird · 27/02/2018 13:37

Just to clarify: I'm not giving up either Grin

But I am able to have a slightly different perspective, given that I already have a (very good) SNP MP. And part of my campaigning will be for an independent Scotland within the EU. Smile

DGRossetti · 27/02/2018 13:51

Great picture ... nothing seems to wind Brexiteers up more than happy remainers ...

DGRossetti · 27/02/2018 13:52

unless it's foreign happy remainers ....
