Westministenders: Rebel Rebel Your Brexit is a Mess.

Hot Tramp, I love you so!

The European Parliament have agreed to progress talks to the next stage. Despite Brexiteers saying its not legally binding, it is apparent that the EU certainly disagree.

Not only that, but the wording of the deal goes further. It binds us to not being able to agree and new trade deals for 2 years.

The All Important Amendment 7 to the Great Repel Bill has been successful. May’s power grab has a set back.

By just FOUR votes the government was defeated. How May will be regretting that pointless election tonight.

Parliament will have a meaningful vote on the exit terms.

But don’t be too excited. Brussels might not like this as May can not guarantee the UK will agree to a deal. It means the the EU are negotiating with parliament NOT May now.

There is also the suggestion that the mood of parliament is changing and is beginning to lean more towards a EFTA / EEA type deal.

But equally this could also send us to the brink with a deal from the EU that could be rejected by parliament.

The stakes just got higher.

Thank you math Kudos to US and British lawyers who tried and are trying to mitigate. Justice is innate.

Theresa May got her leash jerked by Arlene Foster Oh yes. It would be interesting to find out how many fellow travelling fundamentalist protestants are currently in positions of authority across britain.

Isabel Oakshott was very aggressive to Nicky Morgan. She seems like a piece of work Remember economist Vichy Pryce?

QT was horrible. There was a bit when Dimbleby allowed a man in the audience to rant for what seemed like several minutes at Nicky Morgan and Rebecca Long-Bailey (surprise, surprise he didn't address the other remainer, Robert Winston during his tirade) and Dimbleby did nothing, just let him call them traitors and go on about betrayal - straight out of the Daily Mail songbook. It was disgraceful although, at one point, I think the cameras caught RLB and NM exchanging sympathetic glances. He also let Isabel Oakeshott's contention stand that the Conservative rebels were greeted in the lobby by Labour MPs singing the Red Flag Hmm.

Going to email Nicky Morgan and thank her. More things I never thought I'd say.

Yes I'm no Tory but Nicki Morgan and LRW were the only two decent panelists last night.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/12/2017 11:06

There's to be a new head of news at the BBC - Fran Unsworth - so perhaps the balance issue will be address (though I shan't hold my breath)

“We are heading towards a softer version [of Brexit]” Maltese PM Muscat tells me after bilateral with PM last night “pretty obvious now we are converging on a more sensible approach... not sure it is what the UKG says it prefers”

Muscat: up to UK to “make its request” on an end state to EU-UK Trade ... he says, after meeting her though he said “the PM knows exactly what she wants”

On the Commons vote loss, he told me “it complicates things.. in terms of the timetable”... but he is sure the EU27 would agree an Article 50 timetable extension “if asked to stop the clocks, we’d say “yes”’

He said EU leaders were “a bit disappointed” that “there were different interpretations” of the Phase 1 deal in the UK soon after but “right now time is the only enemy”

He confirmed that any deal reached on future trade by March 2019 is “more a blueprint a framework agreement that needs to be filled in” than full trade deal

Theresa May has told fellow EU leaders at the #eusummit that the UK will stay in the Erasmus student exchange scheme at least until end of 2020, praising the scheme, saying she wanted to offer certainty

First the UK realised they wanted to stay Euratom and we forgave their error.

Then they wanted back into Erasmus and we granted them that, but 💶.

Then they wanted back into EASA for ✈️, 🍕 via EFSA, 💉 through EMA, and EHIC 💳 too.

Then we wondered: what was leaving for…?

EU leaders agree to move on to the second phase of #Brexit talks. Congratulations PM @theresa_may

UKIP is rattled. Just had a leaflet through the door from them telling me how Brexit is being betrayed, and how their MEPs are working to ..... well, I couldn't' be bothered to read any more. I put it in the recycling, but I might fish it out, rip it up and post it back to them without a stamp.

BlazingPaddles · 15/12/2017 12:19

Make sure you correct their typos before sending it back. They're the most illiterate lot.

Some one, some where is pouring a lot of money into this today, all over the media. Meanwhile our ranks are growing Oakshott and her type are quite useful.

Nigel Farage, who has been involved in politics for more than a quarter of a century, tells Sky News that he is not a career politician because "being a career politician is about a state of mind".

This made me grin though

You're right, woman. Leaflets through the door aren't cheap.

Wonder where the money is coming from.

OlennasWimple · 15/12/2017 13:06

I've never quite worked out how Nigel Farage has pulled off his "man of the people" persona, having Huguenot ancestry, attended Dulwich College and then a career in banking. Hmm Is it purely because he didn't go to university and says things that other people are thinking but don't want to say out loud because then everyone would know that they are a bigot ?

woman11017 · 15/12/2017 13:34

Wondering if this is aimed at tory remainers and tory 'changed their minders' since that nice Mr Grieve gave that elegant and persuasive speech?

A petition against moving some cancer treatments out of Cornwall. So patients will not have to travel to Plymouth or Exeter several times a week to get treatment, which if you live in west Cornwall is a long journey, especially when you are ill.

woman11017 · 15/12/2017 13:41

signed thanks for posting. hollie

Holliewantstobehot · 15/12/2017 13:48

Thanks. Have signed yours as well. If the EU came up with reforms a second referendum would be inevitable I think.

LurkingHusband · 15/12/2017 14:20

If the EU came up with reforms a second referendum would be inevitable I think.

The thing is - quite aside from the philosophical aspect - the EU of 2019 that the UK is "leaving" will be quite a different beast to the EU of 2015 that the UK "voted on".

One possible future is that the EU changes such that the UKs non membership is actually damaging the UK.

At which point the time travel back to 1972 will be complete. My money is on Luxembourg for Eurovision ...

woman11017 · 15/12/2017 14:33

Thanks hollie I was more posting it out of general interest, wasn't quite sure who it was aimed at. Hoping that doubtful leavers might be able to find a voice in all this noise.

Peregrina · 15/12/2017 14:50

Sorry, I won't be signing the German petition.
I took exception to this statement:

Brussels has contributed to the outcome by refusing to offer the necessary flexibility to let Britain control its immigration.

The UK starting with Tony Blair and continuing with all subsequent governments has failed to take advantage of the flexibility it was offered. I believe that austerity, coupled with the limited outlook shown by so many in small towns and villages, for whom an 'immigrant' is someone from 30 miles away, inflamed by the likes of Farage, is what made immigration one of the Brexit issues. Few of the Leave voting communities have seen much immigration. Those communities which have seen immigration have tended to vote Remain.
