Tin hat on.

Of course the referendum was binding, please don't keep repeating that lie.

Nope. Not binding at all. Just a large and expensive opinion poll.

OliviaD68 · 24/11/2017 11:05

@AgnesSkinner

No idea why Brexshitters all think the ref was binding. Of course it wasn't binding.

AgnesSkinner · 24/11/2017 11:13

It's one of their favourite stock comments when things look a bit sticky for them.

Peregrina · 24/11/2017 11:21

Politically binding, but not legally binding. Cameron said a lot of things, the first one being that he would stay on as PM. That promise didn't last 24 hours after the result.

That's democracy. Democracy is allowing people to petition for things that one personally doesn't agree with. What you were talking about is nearer to Dictatorship.

OliviaD68 · 24/11/2017 11:27

Here's a good analogy I found on Twitter about Leaver complaints wrt EMA, EBA and the recent row about cultural cities applications

When I hear Brexiters ranting about the EU punishing Britain, I imagine England storming out of FIFA and then loudly whining that they're not allowed to play in the World Cup.

True cost of leaving the EU emerging. ...

@Imbroglio

The true cost of Brexit will be witnessed over the next decade as swathes of British industry fall apart.

Imbroglio · 29/11/2017 08:14

Indeed.

Bump.

There's an actual vote in parliament next week on the public getting a say. Time to contact MPs again.
Another key vote, on amendment 120 that calls for a public vote on the deal, will take place on Weds 20th.

A4Document · 14/12/2017 19:48

I do like the "I've told you I don't want to be your friend and now you're being mean to me" quips about the EU

I don't see it that way. It's more like deciding to move out of a house you've shared with several friends, to a home of your own. It's a valid choice, and doesn't mean you're no longer friends or have to fall out.

CardinalSin · 15/12/2017 12:58

Piss poor analogy there A4...

Peregrina · 15/12/2017 19:20

It's a valid choice, and doesn't mean you're no longer friends or have to fall out.
Except that we have been telling the one time friends that we don't want anything to do with them - rows of the summer, go whistle for money, etc., and the one time friends have had enough of this and say, go on then.

OliviaD68 · 15/12/2017 19:55

@Peregrina

And moving out of a house to buy another you have not seen, don't know where it is or when you can move in.

Also others will decide what colour you paint it inside and out. You no longer have that choice.

And whether windows are open shut. Someone is going to decide that for you.

But you are paying for it. Now.

lonelyplanetmum · 16/12/2017 05:58

....and if you move out from a house you once shared with friends it is vastly more expensive on an ongoing basis and extremely lonely.

Imbroglio · 20/12/2017 07:28

Had my email with the government response. They are sticking to their guns.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 20/12/2017 10:38

I had the same response, but the whole tone is of Theresa May's 'nothing has changed, nothing has changed' while getting ready to do a U turn. They have at least had to acknowledge that Parliament has a say.

Imbroglio · 21/12/2017 07:22

Petition is at nearly 40,000 signatures.

OP posts:
GlassOfPort · 21/12/2017 14:03

Signed.

40,200 signatures now. Here's hoping we'll get to 100,000, so this will be at least debated in Parliament.

ACertainRatio · 21/12/2017 16:30

Signed. And will send it to friends.

How much time, money and resources will be wasted on Brexit in 2018?

Peregrina · 22/12/2017 09:26

Even if it gets debated the stock answer is yah booh sucks.

Imbroglio · 23/12/2017 08:30

Politicians need to know that there would be life after a non-Brexit and that this is worth fighting for.

Far too many just rolled over and 'accepted' the decision without, apparently, being convinced that this was anything other than catastrophic for the country.

OP posts:
woman11017 · 23/12/2017 08:45

just rolled over and 'accepted
I think they are actually watching the polls. Grieve and others have said that once it's polling 60/40 remain clearly, they will feel they have the mandate, it is already tipping that way.
The article 50 legal challenge won't 'win' but it is going to reveal a lot about the dodgy ways in which this is being steam rollered through.
The only way this is going to be adjusted is by people having what is really happening revealed to them.
Losing all our rights of FOM and holiday pay seems to have struck a few chords already this week, there is a growing group of leavers who voted in good faith, realising they were duped.

Imbroglio · 23/12/2017 09:34

Yes and we need to encourage politicians to put their heads above the parapet.

OP posts:
LondonMum8 · 19/01/2018 17:39

The problem is that in this "democracy" the government are free to just piss on the petition as they have. To be fair, they have also pissed on the UK Parliament so at least they are taking a consistent piss.
