Is Anybody Making Personal Plans For Brexit?

Very worried about it.

I have some savings, not loads, just a few thousand. I'm thinking maybe I should convert it into foreign currency. What do others think? I have a holiday aboard planned next year, I've converted all the spending money we'll need already and plan to pay for meals etc while we're there in cash.

I've been saving as much money as I can, our mortgage still has another eight years to run. I really need a new car and we had planned to get a new kitchen as ours is falling apart but don't think I can risk spending money on stuff like that now. At the same time I want to take my children abroad as much as we can now as I don't think we'll be able to afford to post 2019.

I wish we could leave the country for the EU but it's just not easy for us, no access to foreign passports, children settled in really good schools, and not easily transferable jobs.

For context, I'll almost certainly be losing my job because of Brexit in 2019, not sure what will happen with my husbands job, don't think he'll lose it but it will be negatively affected.

Is anybody else making plans to try to mitigate Brexit? If so any more suggestions for us?

My thinking on this is simple.

JC will become PM soon when the present government implodes due to a vote of no confidence.

JC will re apply to join again, we will adopt the Euro and everything will be sorted 😀👍🍷

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 17:42

I don't think it's creepy either, not at all.

ImminentDisaster · 11/10/2017 17:46

I think JC is very much in favour of a hard Brexit too though.

TheElementsSong · 11/10/2017 17:46

Yeah, my bad. It’s because my uterus is controlling my typing fingers.

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 17:47

Yeah, my bad. It’s because my uterus is controlling my typing fingers

I've heard you can get pills for that.

LewisThere · 11/10/2017 17:48

user you do realise that as soon as the result of the referendum was out, we saw the number of emigrants (as in British emigrating) going up.
As they have done for hundred of years - when things get tough, they go away to find better places.
Let's think about people moving to Australia in the 1970 for example. When things here were bleak. Also when Thatcher did her best to ensure the UK could join the EU to improve its economic situation.
So are all those people who emigrated great British people showing a sense of adventure and how entrepreneur they are. Or are they cowards who go away from hard times instead of supporting the British economy/country?

HipToBeSquare · 11/10/2017 17:49

user why should anyone stay who doesn't want to and seriously, in this instance fucking off isn't a case of 'I'm alright Jack', you've got that saying in the wrong context.

It's a case of why stay with a sinking ship Confused

nNina22 · 11/10/2017 17:52

I don’t want anyone to ‘fuck off’

user1486062886 · 11/10/2017 17:56

Sinking ship, what happens to the people left on the ship after all the lifeboats are used up , The selfish people wont care about those left behind, it's a good job there are still a lot of people in life that don't just look after themselves

TheElementsSong · 11/10/2017 17:58

Massive chasm.

TheElementsSong · 11/10/2017 18:01

Oops. My uterine thumb pressed Post.

Massive chasm and I think an unbridgeable one there, between your POV user and that of people planning future lives in other countries.

fakenamefornow · 11/10/2017 18:04

So what are you saying? People who are dead against Brexit, didn't want it, didn't vote for it and will be harmed by it should stay in the UK, even though they, and their children can have a better life elsewhere, so they can work hard to help out the people who brought this about?

OP posts:
HipToBeSquare · 11/10/2017 18:06

I didn't vote for Brexit, I know it will be a disaster but you think I should stay because you can't leave Confused

My concern is my family which is why I voted remain. So I'll take my family and move somewhere better.

Only a mug would stay if they didn't want to.

LewisThere · 11/10/2017 18:06

Of course fake because they should be patriotic enough to stay there and support all the tossers all the people who were too naive to realise the shit we would end up in.
Even when all the experts, economists etc... have said clearly that it will be a monumental catastrophe.

M4Dad · 11/10/2017 18:09

No they haven't. More hysteria.

user1486062886 · 11/10/2017 18:12

Sorry I don't like it when people take great joy in rubbing people's noses in it, when they have the ability to move on and many people haven't or can't due to family reasons or whatever, Then want to come running back, when life isn't so great elsewhere. As we have witnessed and backed up by the number of EU people who have settled here compared to the number of uk citizens living in the Eu

The UK has lost a lot of it’s national identity, the good old fashioned “blitz spirit” found a unexploded bomb in recent years.

As far as I am concerned, family comes first. I am going to do what I can to look after them.

I am sure those left behind will also be looking out for themselves which whatever options are available to them.

whatwouldrondo · 11/10/2017 18:13

user Are there no other people around the world in need of help and care from their fellow human beings?

Holliewantstobehot · 11/10/2017 18:14

But surely you will be happy if lots of people leave what with all the pressure on services....... or is it just immigrants who are allowed to escape the mess?

TheElementsSong · 11/10/2017 18:16

“Selfish, running away, rubbing people’s noses, sticking two fingers up, people who leave should be stripped of British citizenship...”

None of this language, of course is even minutely hysterical, eh?

HipToBeSquare · 11/10/2017 18:17

This isn't my birth country and while it's been great for so long, I can assure you I'll have no problem settling elsewhere.

Everywhere else looks more inviting than the UK at the moment.

ImminentDisaster · 11/10/2017 18:17

Why do you think the govenrment aren't publishing the impact reports then? If they say everything will be tip top, that surely strengthens our negotiating position?

The fact is, they are probably disastrous. They can't publish them because there would be mass panic.

This alone is enough to make me do some serious planning.

Melassa · 11/10/2017 18:28

I agree Imminent, it's very suspicious that the govt is so keen to keep these buried. Reminds me a bit of tobacco companies burying the cancer link for all those years, while extolling the glamour and the virtues of a good fag.

nNina22 · 11/10/2017 18:39

Lewis, do you really think leavers are tossers? (your word, not mine)
Maybe you should leave us right now.
We live in a democracy. 52% of voters voted to leave the EU. A twitter poll yesterday revealed 52% want a hard brexit. So we are all tossers but at least we keep a civil tongue in our heads

Mistigri · 11/10/2017 19:09

^Lewis, do you really think leavers are tossers? (your word, not mine)

We live in a democracy.^

You do realise that democracy involves having an opposition, and this implies dissent and disagreement?

Calling people tossers is quite rude, but it's not undemocratic.
