Back from the dead, May carries on whilst the vultures circle.

She had tried to out smart her rivals by running of to the palace to tell the queen she could form a government before they could act.

Definitely she stood and pretended nothing had changed. Except everything had. The wrath of her party was unleashed and there was open revolt. She has been summoned to appear before men in grey suits tomorrow at 5pm to hear their verdict.

How do she decide to make amends and reach out to moderate Tories? By sleeping with the DUP. And appointing Gove to her Cabinet.

How long will this last? How long can it last?

kiss my arse (póg mo thóin),
You're probably all too young to know them, but an anti DUP Pogues benefit gig would be just the ticket. Grin

squoosh · 13/06/2017 15:21

I love the Pogues. I gave Rum Sodomy & the Lash at the weekend when I was cleaning.

squoosh · 13/06/2017 15:23

I gave it a good listen that should say.

WorshipTheGourd · 13/06/2017 15:24

sorry to be dense, but why the jeff would the DUP want Farage involved in anything???

woman12345 · 13/06/2017 15:24

It's such a good housework album, that one!

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 13/06/2017 15:24

Bercow's been reappointed as Speaker of the House.

WorshipTheGourd · 13/06/2017 15:26

Bercow

woman12345 · 13/06/2017 15:26

Follow the money. Leave had a very close relationship with DUP.

mathanxiety did some great posts on it on previous threads.

Woman great idea...we can donate all the money to the pro choice lobbyists in NI

Then they can kiss my half republican Northern Irish, pro choice, pro LGBTQ fat arse.

OlennasWimple · 13/06/2017 15:34

Back in the day a UUP politician called Tim Lemon campaigned for election under the slogan "The future's bright, the future's Lemon"

More importantly, this stuff about SF being seen around Westminster is a) trying to whip up hype; and b) displaying incredible ignorance. SF staff and politicians are frequently seen in Westminster: I've bumped into Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness in the canteen on numerous occasions. This is not news, folks! There's plenty of real news out there to report on, without making stuff up

BigChocFrenzy · 13/06/2017 15:46

The Nasty Leader of the Nasty Party is trying to ally with the Dangerously Unhinged Party

I hope that sensible Tories listen to experience figures in their own party like John Major and find some backbone to avoid a "Bonkers Brexit" led by Arron Dirty Moneybanks and Lord Farage

squoosh · 13/06/2017 15:50

John Major tends to keep his political opinions largely to himself. His coming out publicly to say that a deal with the DUP is a bad idea that could lead to a return to violence in NI must surely mean something.

Peregrina · 13/06/2017 15:50

Now that the public have failed to endorse May's vision of a Hard Brexit, how do you think Parliament and ourselves could get the far right of her party to shut up? I can only think that a group of them should be tasked with producing a fully costed and detailed paper setting out the benefits of Hard Brexit. Would we get any sense out of them?

In the past this might have been difficult to do because of the spectre of UKIP being available to take votes, but at the moment they have collapsed. (Wasn't it 1.8% of the vote share?)

squoosh · 13/06/2017 15:53

'The views of the 48 percent cannot be brushed aside as some of the more 'hardline Brexiteers' would wish.'

I agree John!

missmoon · 13/06/2017 15:59

"We don't currently do anything to remove people who don't self support."

This is a really important point. Other EU countries, e.g., The Netherlands, are really strict on EU migrants who don't work. They check up on people and kick them out, if necessary. This happened to British friends in NL who were self-supporting (i.e., had some savings) but were not in work.

citroenpresse · 13/06/2017 16:01

Apologies if this has already been posted (but couldn't be posted enough, in my view). DUP - surely this has got to sink Maybot. Untenable to do 'deals' with this people.

OlennasWimple · 13/06/2017 16:08

missmoon - I agree. I said years ago that we needed to enforce the rules on FoM properly, or it would lead to the end of the agreement in the UK. The other side of the coin is the people in the UK who face being asked to leave because they have been in breach all this time (SAHM, for example) without understanding that they were not meeting the conditions of FoM. It's all a big mess that could largely have been avoided.

Were your friends actually removed, BTW? I know in some European countries they do an "administrative removal" and note it down in their officials stats as a removal, but all they have done is write a letter or two giving notice that the recipient needs to leave, whereas the UK only counts a removal as someone who has been put on a plane by the UK authorities

citroenpresse · 13/06/2017 16:14

yes indeed missmoon and they are also tightening up the rules.

"Foreign nationals [and this includes EU workers ]who cannot provide for themselves may not stay in the Netherlands."

IND have a firm grip. Policy that combines ensuring competition for Dutch jobs is not unfair, penalising employees who don't pay minimum wages etc but also protecting employees from being exploited.

HashiAsLarry · 13/06/2017 16:14

miss Finland is similar. I have a few friends who've failed to find work in their initial 3 months and were made to come back. Confused the royally as that's not what happens here. Our lack of applying the rules has also been portrayed as an eu issue, when reu don't seem to have an issue in that regards

missmoon · 13/06/2017 16:22

Olennas they received several threatening letters, and decided to come back. I don't know what would have happened had they decided to stay regardless.

LurkingHusband · 13/06/2017 16:27

Maybe tangential, but I see next Friday (23rd) Ian Hislop is presenting a documentary on a history of immigration in the UK (with a companion interview in the Radio Times).

www.radiotimes.com/tv-programme/e/frds5b/who-should-we-let-in-ian-hislop-on-the-first-great-immigration-row/

If it's as good as the one he did on Victorian philanthrophy, it should be illuminating.

WorshipTheGourd · 13/06/2017 16:31

So Verhosstadt says Brexit 'started as an internal Tory Party dispute and still is one'.

The EU dont want us to go, do they?

I think we should have another Brexit vote AND another GA!

Peregrina · 13/06/2017 16:38

I don't want either a Referendum or GE at present. They cost time and money which could be better spent. I do think the Tory party need to sort themselves out, instead of the whole country having to put up with their nonsense.

I keep hoping that they will destroy themselves - or certainly destroy them in their present form.

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2017 16:40
