Back from the dead, May carries on whilst the vultures circle.

She had tried to out smart her rivals by running of to the palace to tell the queen she could form a government before they could act.

Definitely she stood and pretended nothing had changed. Except everything had. The wrath of her party was unleashed and there was open revolt. She has been summoned to appear before men in grey suits tomorrow at 5pm to hear their verdict.

How do she decide to make amends and reach out to moderate Tories? By sleeping with the DUP. And appointing Gove to her Cabinet.

How long will this last? How long can it last?

The Maybot is rebooted as strong and humble. Stumble for short John Crace

'How unfortunate that the Supreme Leader didn’t decide to ‘listen and govern’ before the election rather than after it'

So Gove and Raab both off the @CommonsEUexit select committee

Why I wonder.

I have fears of Raab being PM.

SeanSpicer · 12/06/2017 22:56

Thanks all. I only dip in and out of Private Eye so don't know all the in-jokes etc.

lalalonglegs · 12/06/2017 22:57

Because they are no longer back benchers. Perishing the thought of PM Raab.

NancyWake · 12/06/2017 22:58

Ah right.

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2017 23:29

LurkingHusband
Could we be seeing a new centre party forming before our eyes ????

Seen the front page of the Torygraph for tomorrow?

MAIN HEADLINE: Tories and Labour hold secret talks on soft Brexit

Many rumbling about the possibility of a new centre party for a while from some quarters.

Sam Coates Times @ samcoatestimes
George Bridges has quit DexEU - and government - unexpectedly

Lord Bridges of Headley MBE
Parliamentary Under Secretary of State

He's effectively the third most important person in the department.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 12/06/2017 23:38

This also just happened. It must be totally unrelated...

Faisal Islam @ FaisalIslam
... perhaps more interesting Leaver David Jones is replaced at the Brexit Department by Baroness Anelay, who is listed as a Remain voter

She's effectively the number two at the Brexit Department....

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 12/06/2017 23:42

This is less than a week before Brexit talks are supposed to start. The number two in the department just got booted and the number three just walked.

And Davis has flip flopped from hard Brexit to soft Brexit talk and back again in the space of 4 days.

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2017 23:49

Starmer on Labour's Brexit position.

Perhaps EEA not viable as it imbalance that but very similar bespoke version is what's in mind. EEA has emergency break mechanism within in. But maybe they don't want to spell it out at moment whilst Tory chaos in progress...

Just a thought.

Didn't someone say that the money was all ready to go to create a new party when Labour were wiped out at the election? Could that be used for a new centre party instead of one formed from a labour split?

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2017 00:05

Possibly but I'm not sure it will happen immediately. Stability needed and all that. Plus Lab MPs may be having second thoughts. Corbyn and his approach to Brexit has the potential to break that though.

mother I come in peace.

The ladybird book was a general suggestion , not aimed at you personally and a vague, but obviously, failed attempt at humour.

However I will still have to disagree with your comments that republicans can't be Protestant or atheists and that Catholicism determines their politics. That is too blunt an analysis and historically inaccurate.

In fairness a venn diagram might be handier than a ladybird book to explain the forty shades of green/ orange / whatever you're having , that makes up NI politics.
There's a few other threads on the go at the moment discussing the nuances of NI as I know this thread isn't really about this Smile

mathanxiety · 13/06/2017 04:41

Motheroffourdragons, I agree with you and with BigChoc earlier, that the problem in NI is sectarian. It's no accident that the Rev Ian Paisley was the mouth of hardline Unionism for so many decades. He came to his senses far too late, after doing far too much damage from his Free Presbyterian Church pulpi. Ian Paisley also ranted against the World Council of Churches and against the Ecumenical movement. You can't write find many articles about him that don't bring up the topic of incitement of hatred or bigotry. He wasn't the first to call the Pope the Anti-Christ and he won't be the last in NI to do so either.

Exceptions prove the rule when it comes to protestant Republicans/RC unionists. YY to Theobald Wolfe Tone and a few others on the prominent end, and the odd old IRA man descended from Planters in my grandad's day (I have a specific person in mind here) deep in Boolavogue country. The majority do not break ranks.

Six, I agree with this - a republican in Ireland is not someone who comes from a catholic family to the extent that not all Irish people were, or are, 'Republican'. Hence the Irish Civil War, and the divide that generated the Fianna Fail and Fine Gael parties and their tributary parties over the years.

^Jo Cox: Great Get Together memorial events unite fierce rivals
Politics, journalism and broadcasting rivals in message of unity as events take place across UK in memory of murdered MP^

All four living former prime ministers, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown for Labour and Sir John Major and David Cameron for the Conservatives, are recording messages about what they believe unites Britain as a nation

What did I say yesterday/a few days ago/everything is happening so fast maybe 5 mins ago Confused?
The Labour position sounds very much like they would end FOM by spin.
FOM for just workers and their families. That's sort of what FOM is. To ensure it, it takes work at our side that we just haven't bothered with previously.

woman12345 · 13/06/2017 06:38

The Sun and Daily Mirror printed the joint message to support The Great Get Together organised by Mrs Cox's family

The editors of the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian have also written a joint opinion piece, printed in both papers

On how to get involved:

CaptainBrickbeard · 13/06/2017 06:43

The Guardian today says the DUP will keep their demands financial rather than sectarian - I was very worried about the prospect of marches being on the agenda so that is a relief. There has been a lot in the press about their horrible views but I can't et past the hypocrisy at the moment. After weeks and weeks of Tories telling us Labour we're going to bankrupt us all HOW can anyone justify the millions of pounds they are going to have to spend on buying the DUP at every vote? This is public funds, our money, that could be spent on or schools or hospitals or police, but the Tories are going to spend it on power we would have given them freely in the election if we wanted them to have it. But no one seems to be talking about the cost, after all this relentless banging on about magic money trees.

HashiAsLarry · 13/06/2017 06:50

It is a complete hypocrisy captain but people don't talke about it largely because the Tories are expected to be hypocritical twats and not all parties are held to the same standards - which in itself is a shame.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/12/tory-labour-mps-plot-secret-deal-ensure-soft-brexit/
More on that headline, red:

Senior Cabinet ministers are engaged in secret talks with Labour MPs to secure cross-party backing for a soft Brexit, it has emerged.

Some of the most senior members of Theresa May's team have been discussing how to force the Prime Minister to make concessions on immigration, the customs union and the single market.

Mrs May is understood to have been “aware” of the plot for several days but so far has done nothing to stop it

A week's a long time in politics. Smile

And the Daily Mensa's thoughts on it:
DAILY MAIL COMMENT: Suicidal folly of the 'Cabinet Sensibles' plotting with the opposition and Brussels to water down Brexit

Some one's a wee bit cross.Grin
