Westministenders: The Zombie PM

Back from the dead, May carries on whilst the vultures circle.

She had tried to out smart her rivals by running of to the palace to tell the queen she could form a government before they could act.

Definitely she stood and pretended nothing had changed. Except everything had. The wrath of her party was unleashed and there was open revolt. She has been summoned to appear before men in grey suits tomorrow at 5pm to hear their verdict.

How do she decide to make amends and reach out to moderate Tories? By sleeping with the DUP. And appointing Gove to her Cabinet.

How long will this last? How long can it last?

Very true that we must wish HM & Phil good health, even more than usual human reasons.
Also, once one of a very old couple goes, the other usually follows soon after

woman12345 · 12/06/2017 17:41

Not won a decent majority since MrsT left, and very low party membership. The Labour party gained the same number of members since Thursday as the tories had during the last count.

150 000.

Woman This is doing the rounds of My Northern Irish friends' Facebooks. Doing Street in July www.facebook.com/SPIDEPRIDE/photos/a.667491926667295.1073741828.667436190006202/1463835467032933/?type=3&theater

woman12345, that 150,000 figure has been questioned. Apparently more like 15,000.

woman The IRA are sometimes callously indifferent about collateral damage - i.e. murdering civilians

However, the Loyalist paramilitaries often deliberately target civilians, including children
I don't know if that is to increase civilian terror / cowards attacking soft targets / sheer evil - probably that.
Several Loyalist prisoners in jail had posters "Kill them all and let God sort out the innocent"

Loyalists are dominated by specifically religious hatred - of Catholics - whereas Republicans are motivated by Nationalism & politics, not religion - some Republicans are atheist and a few even protestant

In the Orange Order marches, some members openly taunt about murders of Catholics

Iain Martin‏*@iainmartin1*
No DUP fan, but honestly. London conceit + imagery deployed to attack Ulster Unionists dire. Would be "out of order" for any other group.

Said with no irony at all.

Thanks for the kind petition to put me in the Lords, but I'm afraid an unelected chamber is not for me. Ermine just isn't my thing... 3/3

Hope Nick Timothy & Fiona Hill enjoy the £35k redundo for < a year in Downing St. I'm getting half that for 12 years service in Commons

The "getting on with the job" line used by May and Tory MPs jars when their frolic of a general election means they have not being doing so.

You don't mess with the Queen. Moving the Queen's speech is messing with the Queen. There are few bigger signs of an unstable chaotic gvt

Well, this is interesting. Ruth Davidson on her discussion with the PM:

BigChocFrenzy · 12/06/2017 18:03

It would be a PR gaffe - and could be taken as "political dissing" - for the Queen to attend Ascot or any other sporting / cultural event, instead of opening Parliament.
So, she'd have to cancel Ascot
Royally pissed, we can be sure.

Of course, if she's unwell, someone would deputise for her - isn't Charles allowed to ?

BigChocFrenzy · 12/06/2017 18:07

Guardian live:
Another MP has come out and reports May said:
"I got us into this mess and I’m going to get us out of it."

Laura Kuenssbergg @bbclaurak*
May also apologised to the 1922 and told MP s 'i'll serve as long as you want me too

woman12345 · 12/06/2017 18:08

whatwouldrondo brilliant, thanks
bigchoc Time for the peace women to dust off their/our banners if we march against terrorists here too.
red 15 000 would still increase tories by 10% and labour membership by about 1%? ( useless at maths Blush)
No tory leader has a chant invented for them, though. I think JC's capturing of the football vote's a pretty good move too. Grin

Caroline Shenton, who used to head the parliament archives, is determined to spoil the best story of the day. Sad

Caroline Shentonn @dustshoveller*
I was Director of the @UKParlArchives for 6 years and I can tell you that the Queen's Speech is not made of parchment, goat or otherwise.

Everytimeref · 12/06/2017 18:09

Surely even the Tories can't be that power hungry they would agree to that March.

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2017 18:10

Royal Ascot is one of the things she really enjoys in her royal as queen. I would not be surprised that the "Oh we might do it on Monday afterall" has come after a very blunt response with the palace to the suggestion.

OP posts:
BestIsWest · 12/06/2017 18:10

According to @LordAshcroft poll 35-44s voted LAB 50%-CON 30%. That’s not kids, thats mortgages, car-owning, kids at school, mid-career.

We thought there were noticeably more young families voting last Thursday - I did comment at the time.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/06/2017 18:12

flippinada That's Ruth stepping right back and towing the party line / genuflecting to the Maybot
That's Ruth been offered something for Scotland / Ruth for PM next but one ?

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2017 18:14

Just a teeny reminder but remember that Brexit talks going forward is dependent on the question of NI and the border first being settled.

The idea that Brexit talks can resume before the issue of the government officially formed and the Queens speech confirmed is somewhat crackers in that context.

What happens with that, is directly related to Brexit talks.

OP posts:
woman12345 · 12/06/2017 18:21

It is crackers, isn't it.

whatwouldrondo · 12/06/2017 18:21

I did some dropping off at a polling station that is right in the middle of an area of terraced housing that are typically lived in by young families. At 6.30 it was heaving, tea done, Mum and Dad home from work, a chance to show their children democracy in action......

Sostenueto · 12/06/2017 18:23

The Tories and the DUP wanted a grand parade.
Theresa Mays ideas were voted as the best plan laid.
They donned their sashes, the band played loud.
Surely it was a sight to make you proud.
'Hang on a minute' said the DUP leader,'We need a mascot, let's have a vote.
Months later after much debate they all decided on a scape-goat.
They covered the goat in orange and blue
And said 'There, there little goat, that will do'.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/06/2017 18:24

Below age 45 are a lot of generation rent.
After 45, we start to see more of the elder cohort who have done very well out of property and BTL

Ashcroft has an age analysis of party split:
