WELLLLL

Its just before 2.00am.

So far its the YouGov model all the way. Still a long way to go but, the Cons are not getting the top of their target list and Labour are doing very well in seats they just 'shouldn't be'.

Corbyn is now favourite to take the poison chalice of Brexit, but they may not be the largest party yet.

This is looking right now like 1974 not 1983.

May's potted regardless. I look forward to her resignation speech. Its still entirely possible that our next government is a Tory Minority under another leader.

The LDs are having a rough night so far. They are loosing deposits all over the place as they are squeezed out. But they still might hold the balance of power yet. Though they are pledged not to go into coalition.

Another election in the autumn? Brexit delayed and going soft and squishy?

Well, the Fixed Term Parliament Act is in the manifesto to be repealed.

Why do I get the feeling there is a U-turn coming on that one?

Queen of Denial. That's exactly it. George O seems to be enjoying his new job.

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 14:22

Tory party will be under pressure from the likes of the Times and FT and Spectator who supported May in a qualified fashion - in that they wanted her to take business more seriously. They wanted concessions from her. Socially conservative v economically conservative on collision course within the party.

Mrs May calls an election the UK didn't need: Loses it, and stays in opower: just politics? or snubbing the democratic will of the people?

The phrase 'will of the people' is going to haunt certain individuals isn't it.

Really disliked May's casual reference to "Conservative and Unionist Party" as though everyone had been calling it that the whole time and it's all completely normal.

What's Ruth Davidson position on LBGT rights, abortion, creationism and the death penalty?

Thirteen questions on Brexit the gov has to answer in next hours and days and failed to answer during the campaign.

I keep reading about Kippers going back to Labour but I wonder if it is more accurate that they went to Con but more liberal cons went to lib demand and I know a number of lib dems who voted labour tactically.

OlennasWimple · 09/06/2017 14:27

Lord Lamont reckons that TM will stay on to see the Brexit negotiations through, and that the arrangement with the DUP will last quite some time

surely there is no Parliamentary time to spare to repeal the Fixed Term Parliament Act?

ChilliMum · 09/06/2017 14:28

Posted too soon making it look like a shift from ukip to labour when actually that didn't happen.

Kaija · 09/06/2017 14:28

"I find the DUP coalition brings out schadenfreude in me. Like seeing two people you loathe getting married only to make each other miserable."

Yes, except now they're your parents.

BestIsWest · 09/06/2017 14:29

Do you think May has discussed this union with the DUP with ANYONE in the Tory party or is this another unilateral decision?

HashiAsLarry · 09/06/2017 14:29

chilli in my area it was definitely ukip back to labour. Libs and greens just about held their vote, ukip massively dropped some to Tories most to labour.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 14:30

Nah. They should just know what is right....mind you I have issues with JC about style too sshhhhh!

ElenaGreco123 · 09/06/2017 14:30

I hope Corbyn is screaming down on the phone to his supposed Sinn Fein friends to get onto that f*ing plane right now. I know it is more complicated than that. But I, an agnostic staunch anti-royalist, had to swear an oath to God or the Queen to become a British citizen, and I am still here. We all have to compromise sometimes. Do they want peace in Northern Ireland and soft Brexit? This is the way.

LurkingHusband · 09/06/2017 14:30

surely there is no Parliamentary time to spare to repeal the Fixed Term Parliament Act?

Can it be repealed by a simple majority ?

It wasn't very well written if it can be repealed with less onerous conditions than it imposed for a GE ?

And the implications of repealing it - another "snap" election should be terrifying for all parties ???

What was the comment about insanity being repeating the same behaviour in the expectation of different outcomes ?

I think it's Nick Timothy's decision.

NancyWake · 09/06/2017 14:35

Yes, except now they're your parents

Nah, my parents have been married for 50 years, this won't last 5 mins.

LurkingHusband · 09/06/2017 14:35

Apropos of nothing, we've seen up to E6 of S5 of House of Cards. The one where Francis May strikes a deal with the Democratic Union party to keep Governor Corbyn from piloting the plane ...

Hmmm, might need some sleep Smile

OlennasWimple · 09/06/2017 14:36

Lurking - I just looked at the FTP Act - there's nothing in there on repeal, so it looks very much as if it can be repealed on a simple majority - as you say, a simpler process than calling a snap election under its terms

LurkingHusband · 09/06/2017 14:37

Wow ! Has anyone heard what Boris Johnson has been saying ?

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 14:38

What has he said?
