WELLLLL

Its just before 2.00am.

So far its the YouGov model all the way. Still a long way to go but, the Cons are not getting the top of their target list and Labour are doing very well in seats they just 'shouldn't be'.

Corbyn is now favourite to take the poison chalice of Brexit, but they may not be the largest party yet.

This is looking right now like 1974 not 1983.

May's potted regardless. I look forward to her resignation speech. Its still entirely possible that our next government is a Tory Minority under another leader.

The LDs are having a rough night so far. They are loosing deposits all over the place as they are squeezed out. But they still might hold the balance of power yet. Though they are pledged not to go into coalition.

Another election in the autumn? Brexit delayed and going soft and squishy?

lalalonglegs · 09/06/2017 13:25

Oleanna - the tellers need to sleep. They will have been at the count since 10.30 last night.

I think the estimated cost to the state of carrying out the election is around £130 million

Or a third of a Brexit Bus.

I wouldn't go that far squoosh!

HashiAsLarry · 09/06/2017 13:30

@benrileysmith
Senior Tory: May's "terrible and damaging campaign has retoxified Conservatism."

@jolyonmaugham
There is a sense that people are coming together. About this.

TempsPerdu · 09/06/2017 13:32

"BBC now eporting that Labour have gained Kensington" i thought they hadn't done the third recount

BBC/Guardian now rowing back on this it seems - announced a tad prematurely!

TheElementsSong · 09/06/2017 13:32

Or a third of a Brexit Bus.

Oh, so we could run three general elections per week and still be quids in?

Better get on with it, then. I'm gathering that some people are most incensed that the electorate didn't vote the right way, didn't understand what they were voting for, etc etc. Wait, I'm getting a sense of deja vu...

WeakAndUnstable · 09/06/2017 13:33

I'm quite relaxed about the DUP coalition thing. There can be no more slow realization that Theresa May is a power crazy incompetent that will discount the rights of ordinary people at the drop of a hat.

That frog has been well and truly boiled and is visible to all.

Call me an optimist, but I can't quite believe there are many people/MPs out there that - given the opportunity to show hands - would be happy to support this set up.

HashiAsLarry · 09/06/2017 13:33

One for the footie fans

@bbclaurak

squoosh · 09/06/2017 13:34

I had just this moment chortled at that Hashi.

OlennasWimple · 09/06/2017 13:36

I've jsut caught up with the fact that Diane Abbott increased her majority by 11,000 with over 42,000 votes (75% of the turn out in her constituency) Shock

Is she the MP with the largest number of votes cast, I wonder?

HashiAsLarry · 09/06/2017 13:38

Grin Hashi Do you think Fergie could be persuaded out of retirement for one more gig?

Any one else noticed people a bit happy today (a la 1997?)
Trolley lady in Tesco's gave me a big smile, and she's always friendly. Some of the staff were getting quite dancey by the check outs. This is at 11am. Not normally like that, quite.Smile

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2017/06/wiser-theresa-may-show-contrition-humility/#
It would have been wiser of Theresa May to show some contrition and humility

The spectator on May's speech.

Theresa May was determined to suggest that nothing had really changed in her statement outside Downing Street after seeing the Queen. She talked about her plans for the next five years, which is—to from the Brexit referendum, but made no real reference to last night’s events. She emphasised certainty and indicated it was all business as usual.

Tonally, May’s approach was a mistake. It would have been better to put it mildly—ambitious. She emphasised the mandate that came level with voters about what had happened, to tell the country that she would work to regain its trust. It is jarring to talk about how the country needs certainty, when the election that you called has injected huge uncertainty into the political system.

As Prime Minister, May’s attitude has very been never explain, never apologise. But she would have been wise to show some contrition and humility today.

May's inability to do this is her biggest flaw. Who is she going to blame this time instead of step up and take the responsibility?

Same thing. Every. Single. Time.

Diane Abbott increased her majority by 11,000 with over 42,000 votes

Good for her, vindication for the shameful behaviour of May and the right wing press.

woman12345 · 09/06/2017 13:40

The Spectator has been furious with her for weeks. Andrew Neil's twitter account was looking very cross last night.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 13:42

Who will be the chief brexit negotiator now? If they send the clowns Bojo Dickhead Davis etc there would be riots.

She's clearly not as astute as we thought and is fucked. She will mess this up too

OlennasWimple · 09/06/2017 13:43

IDS and Gove tipped for a comeback Shock Shock

Surely not....

NancyWake · 09/06/2017 13:43

I find the DUP coalition brings out schadenfreude in me. Like seeing two people you loathe getting married only to make each other miserable.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 13:46

IDS and Gove....oh they will unite us all. She really really hasn't learnt anything

OlennasWimple · 09/06/2017 13:47

Except that the couple become one of those ones that you dread bumping into at a party because they are clearly unhappy in their dysfunctional relationship and inflict their misery on everyone else, Nancy

WeakAndUnstable · 09/06/2017 13:48

New cabinet this afternoon? Shock
Did everyone else know about this except for me? Hmm

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 13:49

How much of a difference will this really make in reality? Don't the DUP almost always vote with the CONs anyway? What HAVEN'T they voted on?

I noted that apparently unionist parties got the minority of votes for the first time ever last night. I can't help feel about what happened to the LDs. How are DUP voters going to react if they are running ads about voting DUP rather than Tory.
