Westministenders: Strong and Stable Theresa Date with Destiny

WELLLLL

Its just before 2.00am.

So far its the YouGov model all the way. Still a long way to go but, the Cons are not getting the top of their target list and Labour are doing very well in seats they just 'shouldn't be'.

Corbyn is now favourite to take the poison chalice of Brexit, but they may not be the largest party yet.

This is looking right now like 1974 not 1983.

May's potted regardless. I look forward to her resignation speech. Its still entirely possible that our next government is a Tory Minority under another leader.

The LDs are having a rough night so far. They are loosing deposits all over the place as they are squeezed out. But they still might hold the balance of power yet. Though they are pledged not to go into coalition.

Another election in the autumn? Brexit delayed and going soft and squishy?

She hasn't learnt a thing from last night - it's like no one's actually told her the result. They'll be decimated next time round big she keeps this up.

lalalonglegs · 09/06/2017 13:03

Was that the speech TM was going to read out last night when she was returned with a huge majority - but with a hastily-scribbled sentence about the DUP squooshed in? Shock

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 13:04

May has a look about her as if she HATES everyone right now.

A true leader would use this as an opportunity to reach out and create a cross party Brexit approach. May is no true leader.
Every time she makes the divisive choice, the self interested choice. And she's not even good at it.

Waves to Yvette.

I though you couldnt take the speaker (and its deputy) in the number?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2017-40209087
BBC is saying only 3 seats from the majority (329 with the DUP, assuming Kessington is Conservative), majority at 326....

TempsPerdu · 09/06/2017 13:06

How much has this whole pointless exercise cost?

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 13:06

Do you think she has a special parallel universe in Number 10?

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 13:07

They don't normally vote. They can in exceptional circumstances.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 13:09

Replying to @IanDunt
There is, I suppose, slim chance she will come up with a recalibrated Brexit plan, but can't see her being open to anything on single market
Can't get it past DUP or her own headbangers. But without a meaningful change this will be a democratic disgrace.
She asked for a mandate, didn't get it. Carried on regardless. Unacceptable.

Labour has rebels too, so TM may find herself looking for support from them and the LDs on issues where her querulous back benchers cause her trouble.

I wonder who the Whips will be? Key roles in all parties now...

TempsPerdu · 09/06/2017 13:10

BBC now eporting that Labour have gained Kensington Shock

May delivers something close to victory speech outside No 10. No hint of shellacking from voters.

Its Trump and the GOP isn't it? Same thing. AGAIN.

Oh, yes, remember this?

Carole Cadwalladr Retweeted Carole Cadwalladr
Good evidence May got to power on back of ref that broke multiple laws. Govt refuses to investigate. DUP up to its neck. Questions.. anyone?

Carole Cadwalladr added,

The DUP, you say? The offshore money laundering machine & funnel for Brexit dark cash that May's govt has refused to investigate? Oh...

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 13:14

I hope she has cried as much as it looks like she has

Doesn't look like this MP will be very impressed with what Theresa May just said in her speech

Heidi Allen‏ @heidiallen75
We @Conservatives will learn from this. We will listen, collaborate more& demonstrate greater vision& compassion for all. We HAVE to change

So that's now Heidi Allen and Anna Soubry on the liberal side of the party. Anyone seen anymore?

Charlie Falconer now talking to Dermot: he organised @Ed_Miliband carefully prepared plans for exactly these circumstances
Falconer calls @theresa_may "an illegitimate prime minister" & "every day she stays will increase the size of subsequent Labour majority"

Sarah Wollaston‏Verified account

  1. Overall I'm very concerned about consequences of a hung Parliament & what this means for the future & crucial negotiations with the EU
  1. Fox hunting & changes to social care were turning points in how people felt about the PM in highly personalised campaign
  1. Hope we never again have such a negative campaign. The public just don't want US-style attack politics

  2. I cannot see how the inner circle of special advisers can continue in post. Needs to be far more inclusive in future

OlennasWimple · 09/06/2017 13:21

Kensington going for a third recount, but will not start counting again until 6pm tonight (why? Is this something to do with tellers having their day job to go to, or is it a legal thing?)

SwedishEdith · 09/06/2017 13:22

On Twitter

Just seen someone describe the DUP manifesto as "basically just the bible, with fortnightly bin collections"
Too real #ge2017

squoosh · 09/06/2017 13:22

I've always had time for Ken Clarke

Only Tory I'd snog.

howabout · 09/06/2017 13:22

I'm with Yvette but TM would never go for it. Without Brexit glue the Conservative remaining vote share splinters.

JC got more seats than GB in 2010 even without most of their Scottish seats Shock

Over 200 women in parliament for first time ever.

OP posts:
LurkingHusband · 09/06/2017 13:23

I find myself vaguely wondering if May is trying to "be nimble" (which she has failed to be up tilll now) and railroad naysayers with a lightening fast DUP stich-up before the Tory party can get it's act together.

Basically trying to present it as a fait accompli with a dare to all and sundry to "have a go if they think they're strong and stable enough" ???

I can't believe every single possible area of DUP-Tory policy has been thrashed out in 4 hours.
