I was thinking about how I could sum up the general election campaign and well. This said it all.

Is there anyone else who hasn't voted yet?

Me. Disenfranchised Brit in France :(

Lazybastet · 08/06/2017 20:34

Thank you for the advice above I will do!

We live in a safer than safe safe Labour seat, I think my MP has the highest majority so it's not too bad.

However she is quite political and will be a bit miffed.

RedToothBrush · 08/06/2017 20:36

Newcastle Under Lyme
Keele University telling students to go back and vote if they have been denied.

Suggestion voters are late registerer and are on the role but not on the list given to the polling station.

FFS. If its close this is a major fuck up if true.

That is unbelievable Angry

I remember how excited I was to vote I my first election. They must have been gutted.

I hope they all go back!

Peregrina · 08/06/2017 20:41

The lady in front of me went into the booth, came back out and shouted over "Oi, where are UKIP on here?". So they told her UKIP aren't standing in our constituency. She went back, then reappeared, "And where's Theresa May on here?"

Grin Grin. Another own goal for Treeza - shouldn't send out election literature with I, I, I, me, me, me on it, should put the candidate's name on election literature.

TheElementsSong · 08/06/2017 20:42

Jeez RTB Angry

pointythings · 08/06/2017 20:43

That is the item that got me worrying, Red. But I'm inclined to agree with you and think 'major cockup' given the short runup to this election.

woman12345 · 08/06/2017 20:46

Another overseas voter has got in touch about problems, which stopped him voting.

James Pellington writes from the United States:

I was told my overseas registration had expired (apparently I have to re-register every year) and then, while re-registering, was told that my identity could not be confirmed. This is despite me registering in the exact same address as previously registered. I need to find another British voter who is registered overseas to confirm my identity.

Eventually the election office agreed that I was the same person that they had previously had registered. Then I also needed to register to vote by postal ballot, and after providing my overseas address was told I needed to provide an address in the UK.

When they finally agreed to register me at my overseas address, they sent the ballot paper so that it arrived on Monday, despite having registered several weeks before. I arrived at the post office first thing Monday morning and they told to get it there before polls closed it would cost $80 (£62) and they could not guarantee Thursday delivery

Peregrina · 08/06/2017 20:49

In these cases the overseas voters need to find proxies PDQ. You can always get in touch with the local party of your choice and they will find a proxy for you.

woman12345 · 08/06/2017 20:51

Thanks Peregrina fingers crossed for your candidate tonight.

HardcoreLadyType · 08/06/2017 21:01

DD1 voted for the first time, as she turned 18 less than a month ago.

Two of her friends were upset that, at 17, they couldn't vote. They both had AS exams this afternoon, and straight afterwards dashed off on a train to a nearby constituency, which is marginal for the Lib Dems. They stood outside a school, with proxy forms, and asked 6th formers coming out if they were registered to vote, and if they intended to vote. They found two who were registered but were not intending to vote, who were prepared to sign their proxy forms, so they got to vote on their behalf.

That's dedication!

Our polling station was busier than usual, and the electoral officer said to DD1 that lots of young people were voting.

Artisanjam · 08/06/2017 21:12

Voted - another one against Nicola Blackwood. Reassuringly (and yes I know it's an echo chamber) my FB feed is full of lib dem/ labour voters which is slightly more surprising than it might be as it is school parents and people from choir and sports things

Cautiously hopeful for lib dems here in Oxford west. And I have s box of wine in the fridge! I'm hoping to be up for Hunt though think it's unlikely in every way!!

prettybird · 08/06/2017 21:14

Good on your dd1's friends hardcore. Great to hear of young people who are so politically motivated - more power to their elbows. StarStarStar to them.

Lashing rain all day. The central heating is on. Wine poured.

RedToothBrush · 08/06/2017 21:24

Do you think its worth decamping to a dedicated GE thread or staying put here?

I am nearly ready to go. I have C4's Alternative Election night on now.

I have my list of target seats. I have my list of declaration times.

Most important of all I've started on the gin.

BestIsWest · 08/06/2017 21:27

Stay here please! It's a safe place.

Artisanjam · 08/06/2017 21:28

Fwiw Red, I'd stay here, otherwise there could be two concurrent threads all night and people will lose track... I hope you're ready for the next one though!

woman12345 · 08/06/2017 21:29

I agree, best.

CivQueen · 08/06/2017 21:31

Aye, the wine is cracked open.

No going back now.

Once more into the breech, dear friends.

BiglyBadgers · 08/06/2017 21:32

Please don't go! I like it here.

Badders123 · 08/06/2017 21:34

26 mins and counting....

RedToothBrush · 08/06/2017 21:37

Ok no problem here it is.

Just a reminder of the predicted turnout - 59.9%. 25 mins to exit poll time. In 2015 the Exit Poll underestimated the CON seats by 20 (so bare in mind too).

The action doesn’t really start going until about 2.00am, with lots of key results checking between then and 4.30am. I would have thought we would start to get an idea of how good/bad it is for each party around then. So once the Exit Poll comes out at 10pm, if you want to get a nap, that’s the time to do it and get up after a short kip.

Chances are I will be around and about most of the night, though I might try and get my head down periodically.
