I hate the way he says 'grip' constantly too, and he's alway 'holding xyz to account.

I wish he'd fuck off & mansplain elsewhere.

(Am watching QT on catch up, hence random Keir hatred).

SemiPermanent · 27/03/2017 22:09

I love it that Starmer is disliked in certain sectors. They are worried about him

Worried about him?
In what way?

I'm not remotely worried about him, other than weirdly troubled by his irritating face & voice.
His face has the look of a serial killer about it.

Imjustapoorboy · 27/03/2017 22:12

Semi That's good. Carry on insulting his looks. It becomes you and adds to the level of discussion

Not sure how he mansplains - I think are misusing the word there to get down with the feminists

Unless mansplaining is any man talking?

WoodPigeonInFlight · 27/03/2017 22:17

What was worrying for you about the EU?

Its distance from us, politically speaking, and the impossibility of having any meaningful input into its decision making and its unwillingness (possibly inability) to adapt to a fast changing world and to many people's unhappiness with the effects of globalisation.

WrongTrouser · 27/03/2017 22:21

I agree with Pigeon

LondonMum8 · 27/03/2017 22:24

@WT Democracy is not foolproof. In fact, it can definitely be a serious bummer if not a global disaster, for example see:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enabling_Act_of_1933

Note certain similarities between the Nazi march towards dictatorship and TMs pushback against parliamentary scrutiny. Yes, the hardline Tories are softcore (and UKIP are irrelevant) compared to the Nazis, but we should be mindful of the history and ever vigilant. Overall, Britain hasn't really been moving in the direction of healthy democracy recently.

The referendum result itself was really close, just 2% change in the vote would have reversed the result, which is why many modern democracies require a supermajority for constitutional decisions.

howabout · 27/03/2017 22:24

It was all just Deja vu all over again Semi. I also hate the way Keir keeps referring to grip especially since it just keeps reminding me that him and the rest of the PLP are singularly failing to get one.

Cleggers equivocating and weaseling as per. Wee eck banging on about process and my right to continue to say No to him.

smashedinductionhob · 27/03/2017 22:27

Thanks for replying. Here's hoping things will work out.

I was lucky enough to see the peace making side (25 years ago).

It stays with you.

Imjustapoorboy · 27/03/2017 22:30

I hate to say but I really think the ardent leavers are amongst the minority. Most people vote with their pockets

Let's just see

SemiPermanent · 27/03/2017 22:37

Urgh - Clegg.

YY howabout, he irritates me no end too.
Same old, same old.

He hates it that he can't pretend to be relevant any more.

Keir's stupid hair pisses me off too.

And I wish he'd fuck off with his 'my 6 tests' which are worth the square root of fuck all.

SemiPermanent · 27/03/2017 22:49

'A meaningful vote'
'Satisfy the tests'
'Grip'

All in one interminable monologue.

FUCK OFF!!!!!!

WrongTrouser · 27/03/2017 23:21

Are you not keen on Keir Starmer Semi? Grin

Imjustapoorboy · 27/03/2017 23:34

Good to see Starmer has an effect. Nice litmus test

SemiPermanent · 27/03/2017 23:53

Oh Wrong!
You've no idea.

There are not enough words or emojis to truly convey how crawly I find him.

JC's 'calm & reasonable' voice irritates me at about the same level.

SemiPermanent · 27/03/2017 23:54

Litmus test for what?

Why the intrigue & mystique?

missmoon · 28/03/2017 06:47

In order to get parliament to vote for A50 David Davies said that we will get a deal with the "exact same benefits as under the single market". Starmer is holding him to account with the first of his "tests". What's the problem? Which one of them is wrong? Did David Davis lie to parliament? Or is the opposition spokesman wrong to hold the govt to account?
(The other so-called tests are minor and so vaguely worded as to be pretty irrelevant).

GhostofFrankGrimes · 28/03/2017 06:51

Yep, if your pissing off brexiters you're probably doing something right bursting their bubble

user1487175389 · 28/03/2017 06:54

What are we celebrating? The great repeal Bill? It's the end of legislation that protects people and the environment from the worst excesses of late stage capitalism! Yay!! Is that K C and the Sunshine Band I hear playing?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 28/03/2017 07:03

Well the telegraph are celebrating deregulation. I'm sure that will benefit ordinary people. Hmm

LondonMum8 · 28/03/2017 07:10

The ordinary have been so blatantly duped by the likes of Trump and Special Agent Farage the Rat it's not even funny.

Imjustapoorboy · 28/03/2017 07:39

Exactly Ghost if logic and argument is annoyingly challenging the pro brexit view Starmer is doing something right

SemiPermanent · 28/03/2017 08:38

In order to get parliament to vote for A50 David Davies said that we will get a deal with the "exact same benefits as under the single market"

Did he say 'will get a deal'?
Or
'we want to get the best possible access for British businesses to trade with and operate within the single market'

There's a difference.

That's why Keir Starmer's 'test' is stupid & nonsensical.

Keir has yet to adequately explain what this test actually means.
He says 'grip' & 'meaningful vote' on a loop, which is meaningless.

His 'test' will not be met in all reality - everyone knows this, including him - he's said as much.

So when we are offered a deal that does not offer 'the exact same benefits as under the single market' - will Labour vote down the deal? Even if it's a good deal? What happens then? We leave with no deal at all?

Keir Starmer is boxing Labour into a corner.

if logic and argument is annoyingly challenging the pro brexit view Starmer is doing something right

Logic is fine, I'm a fan of logical & practical solutions - Keir however is not remotely logical in this.

He irritates me more because of how he looks though tbh - he's creepy.

Imjustapoorboy · 28/03/2017 08:41

Is your quote from hansard?

Imjustapoorboy · 28/03/2017 08:42

And isn't 'under' and 'within' the same thing? Or is there a brexit version of the definition of words now

Inkanta · 28/03/2017 08:56

'He irritates me more because of how he looks though tbh - he's creepy.'
