Westministers: The Lords Strike Back

RedToothBrush · 01/03/2017 19:41

This needs no fanfare or lengthy post. Just this:

The Lords are demanding amendments unilateral protection for EU citizens.

Labour was split 358 for an amendment to 256 against.

This is after Amber Rudd had tried to reassure the Lords by writing a letter assuring peers that EU citizens would be treated with the utmost respect.

Utmost respect = an amendment to guarantee unilateral support.

Today is a good day. It should have been done in the first place.

Please stay Misti. The current shift will be finished soon.

So... budgets. Apparently no more money for the NHS or social care because its all going into the Brexit war chest.

unicornsIlovethem · 06/03/2017 16:54

At least Yer has put some pants on.

HashiAsLarry · 06/03/2017 16:55

But but but
We were giving the NHS £350m a week. Confused

HashiAsLarry · 06/03/2017 16:56

Too coherent for yer

prettybird · 06/03/2017 16:57

Tables such as the one slippery posted up ignore the fact that the SNP only stood in 59 seats. remind me what proportion of the Scottish vote UKIP got in Scotland? Hmm

Despite the fact that they benefitted from FPTP at Westminster, the SNP is still in favour of PR at Westminster for as long as they have to suffer being there . The Scottish Parliament at least returns a voting chamber that reflects the proportions that people voted (except in 2011 when it "broke" the d'Hondt system).

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 16:58

Misti don't gooooooooo 😖

The £60 million is going to Nissan et al isn't it? To pay them off for staying here?
That's my take on it anyway

They will have to pay so much out to keep business on this inward thinking xenophobic rock

^ because that's all it is now. Globally we are a laughing stock. And rightly so. Has any country ever made such a drastic change with no plan at all?

(A country that's still a global power that is...)

LurkingHusband · 06/03/2017 17:03

The £60 million is going to Nissan et al isn't it?

£60 billion

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 17:04

Sorry yes billion

We are going to have to pay through the nose

Slipperyknickers · 06/03/2017 17:04

I think this lot might be all fur coat.

What do you think unicorn?

LurkingHusband · 06/03/2017 17:06

They will have to pay so much out to keep business on this inward thinking xenophobic rock

Not just that. The funniest thing is they need to bribe spend money on demographics that traditionally the Tories have only ever shat on from a great height. It must have really galled some Tories that Nissan - who after all make things - were promised money ahead of the City.

I wonder if Hammonds budget will start with 5 loaves and two fishes ?

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 17:21

Well, I can't speak for my compadres, but my knickers are full of glitter ✨

missmoon · 06/03/2017 17:22

This is very good on why committing to give parliament a meaningful vote on the final deal doesn't weaken our negotiating position (the final point alone is pretty conclusive):

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 17:23

Well, TM has certainly got a God complex so maybe?
She won't be healing the sick that's for sure!

HashiAsLarry · 06/03/2017 17:26

badders Grin

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 17:29

It's EVERYWHERE hashi!

😖😂

LurkingHusband · 06/03/2017 17:35

Given how things are going in the UK, something to ponder ?

President Donald Trump has pledged to deport several million undocumented immigrants and recently set a plan in motion targeting those with criminal records (of any kind).

While the ethical issues with mass deportations have received lots of attention, the economics haven’t been explored as comprehensively. And the costs of mass deportations will likely be significant.

These include the impact on economic growth and the labor force, which have received some coverage, but there are several other factors that ought to be considered, such as the debts and dependents left behind by those deported and the costs of giving them the boot.

Slipperyknickers · 06/03/2017 17:44

Exactly Mr exit

RedAndYellowPeppers · 06/03/2017 17:45

I'll tell you what I am finding really striking atm.
When the referendum was won by Leave, it was all about how great it would be. The how great it was that the pound went down becaus eit would boost exports. Then how actually the uk didn't collapse and look at how well the economy is going.

The news today are about how the Brits in the EU are forgotten about, the inflation rising and being a real worry, the budget and all the budget cuts, incl the NHS, social care and so on.

I can't see ANY enthousiasim anymore but worry.

RedAndYellowPeppers · 06/03/2017 17:47

Nope. The £60 billions are to pay the bill to the EU Grin

LurkingHusband · 06/03/2017 18:30

I can't see ANY enthousiasim anymore but worry.

Hardly surprising when all you can do is talk Brexit down ...

Slipperyknickers · 06/03/2017 18:35

I agree lurking husband.

They are all over the threads not just slagging off brexit, but slagging of 52% of the population who voted brexit and tarring and feathering them as racists, demonising their elected government and slagging of the UK in general.

Badders123 · 06/03/2017 18:36

TM was not elected.

Not sure you have grasped lurkings point tbh....

Slipperyknickers · 06/03/2017 18:37

We elected a consrvative government.

She is the new leader of the Conservative party elected by members.

Slipperyknickers · 06/03/2017 18:39

"A demon took a monkey to wife — the result by the Grace of God was the English.
Indian saying"

Yes lurking, a very racist Indian saying too.

HashiAsLarry · 06/03/2017 18:41

And the Tory party were elected on the premise of keeping us in the single market.
