Couple of papers on EU / India trade relations. Looks like there would be plenty of scope for the UK to improve on the current negotiating without rEU.

So do you think immigration from the whole of India would be forced upon us then?

I don't think all of India want to emigrate here, no! But the point is, nobody's queuing up to trade with us: trade deals are going to mean we compromise on immigration. Like we used to.

Seek thats not how I phrased it.

I said would any remainer accept total FOM like we have with the EU from India.

Opening up the whole of India to come here with no restrictions at all, do you think thats a good idea.

becausebecausebecause · 08/02/2017 19:39

"The trouble I am having with Brexit and the leavers is the fact that they seem to think the rest of the world owes us something, or that we have something the rest of the world wants.

But we do not, and they don't, so we have to be very careful."

Oh how very patriotic you sound. We will have control of our destiny, among many other positives. As you say, for every link remainers proffer to bolster their arguments, leavers can proffer their own. It's a pointless game of tit for tat. Bottom line, we're delighted to be leaving whether that means a recession or fewer Indian immigrants. It all pales against the positives of leaving that hideous, over reaching monolith that is the EU. Cheers.

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 08/02/2017 19:41

mother

I find some remainers really do the UK down, I have posted some considerable good news on the other chlorine chicken thread - how we can improve so much to do with labeling and standards when we are free of the EU, but its bveen ignored and they want to talk about USA chickens.

They don't care about EU farmers ignoring EU welfare standards and keeping pigs ( intelligent animals) in sickening pens to give birth etc. OR UK farmers who have naturally higher standards on farming being undercut by cheap nasty meat.

Cheap nasty meat and low welfare standards from the EU dont matter it seems, only cheap nasty meat from the US ( which we dont have yet) same as - Nasty racist talk and action and deed from EU leaders doesnt count - only from the US even if its far more toned down Confused

Sounds like school children point scoring to me, rather than actually caring about the issues.

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 08/02/2017 19:45

Mother - in the nicest way it doesnt sound to me like you have a deeper interest in the subject. If you did you would know the UK is a player on the world stage, in terms of influence, diplomacy, security etc.

How much we are a player waxes and wanes and TBH I am happy we are going to back off with military involvement in the ME.
The out going US Ambassadors here spoke at length how they hoped the UK would remain in the Uk - not to do with UK Loss but EU loss. UK he said brought many skills to the table and the EU is poorer without us there.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 08/02/2017 20:16

Debbie I have no strong feelings either way, and I'm not sure why it'd matter if I did!

The point is that with trade deals comes freedom of movement.

I love how not 'sounding patriotic' is considered a valid retort to an argument here!

woman12345 · 08/02/2017 20:24

Nigel Farage after claimed the Leave party had emerged victorious in the EU referendum “without a single bullet being fired” . hmm

Seek it's a valid response to being told your country had better be careful as has nothing to offer that the rest of the world wants...if that's the case, why on earth would the EU want us to remain? Of course, lack of patriotism is endemic among remainers who seem to view it as the scourge of little Englanders, to be keen on nationhood.

As for Jo Cox's murder, what on earth has that to do with a legal legitimate vote to leave the EU? Apart from, of course, the desperate attempts to conflate a lone, mentally ill nutter with legal and orderly referendum? Which failed and was tasteless in the extreme.

becausebecausebecause · 08/02/2017 21:39

Cheers! Gin
