'I enjoy rarely skimming through some of reds tracts'

Does that mean you enjoy avoiding them or you enjoy reading them on the rare occasion?

RortyCrankle · 17/01/2017 16:47

I'm also bemused by the Remainers who have been bleating since last June that they have been applying for passports for RoI, EU countries, Canada, US, Oz, NZ etc and threatening to leave the country. Except they are still here, bleating and frothing - same as Jamie Oliver promised threatened to leave - still here and now he has had to close down six of his restaurants which is naturally the fault of Brexit and nothing to do with the crap food.

Why don't they all leave - just go - we won 't miss them.

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 16:47

I like the idea mooted on the other thread that given eighteen months or so enough of the 'young' will be old enough to vote and then Leavers won't have a majority and A50 can be overturned/watered down enough to not matter. It does rather beg the question what about those 'young' at the other end of the spectrum who trip over into 'old' and hence become Leave voters. Or will that not happen? I can't quite wrap my chihuahua brain around it but it seems to me either being 'old' equals voting Leave so one group getting old enough to vote correctly will cancel the other group getting too old to vote correctly. Or it's not a vote purely based on age............hmm could therefore knowledge and experience have played a part?

Ontopofthesunset · 17/01/2017 16:48

You will miss their taxes.

Doubletrouble99 · 17/01/2017 16:49

I am really heartened by all the positive views off the PM's speech. I have yet to meet on here or anywhere else any leaver who wanted a soft Brexit - I think they are just an urban myth!

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 16:50

Jamie Oliver's restaurant in Brighton is was awful greasy, cheesy high fat yuckiness with slow service at high prices Confused don't think Brexit was the problem.

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 17/01/2017 16:50

If your confused Infinite, just wait and see what the DM makes of it.

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 16:51

Bet we won't miss their taxes what with all the Starbucks they drink GrinGrinGrin

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 16:52

'Her cheerleaders will love the petulant threats. Like a yapping chihuahua.'

Is this the comment? Reads to me as though May is being referred to as the chihuahua no? She's the one making the threats like a small yappy dog?

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 17:05

Reads to me like those that support her Plan are the chihuahuas either way yet more namecalling. I personally have a chihuahua and my ddog is far from yappy but definitely my biggest fan and supporter except when I have to carry him because the ground is too cold for his weeny paws

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 17:07

Apparently Britain is getting like South Africa during apartheid Confused

WrongTrouser · 17/01/2017 17:19

Sheldon I've wondered whether people might continue tending towards leave as they age, rather than it being a fixed correlation to age on 23rd June, which seems quite unlikely to my mind. Everyone seems to assume not, but I haven't seen any evidence. Not sure how you would find out without waiting a year or two but odd that people who are so convinced they are all "evidence based" and logical are making the assumption that people's views won't change as they get older.

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 17:26

Far more eloquently put than I was able @Wrongtrouser
Random pic of ddog because I never miss an opportunity

I voted remain but am unbothered by a hard Brexit. The EU is a fairly recent institution and I do feel that in the long term it would implode with or without us as the countries in it are too different. Add a terrorist wave and the immigration crisis from Syria and Africa and the lack of borders just looks daft.
You can't just magic up more schools houses and hospitals.
I voted remain because I liked (and still do like) the idea of countries co-operating and working together. It just all seemed to go pear shaped in the past 10 years when some countries (like us) had an influx of immigrants rather than the largely reciprocal trickle there had been before.
I think if you are going to plan a health system, education system and social care system you need to know what the populations is going to do over the next 10 years. You can only do that with border control.
I also don't want to see our green spaces concreted over to provide more houses and roads for all the people who want to come here.
I accept immigration is good for our economy but that is based on an economic model I dislike where countries grow by increasing their populations and producing more and more stuff.
That isn't compatible with protecting our environment and reducing our carbon footprint.
Sadly I know that this is not why the Tories in charge of Brexit want a hard Brexit. They still want us producing more and more stuff, but being paid less for it.
I do find it more interesting than scary though.
I'm more worried by the rise of fundamentalist religions than Brexit. I worry that we can fight fundamentalist religions less effectively outside the EU.

Project Fear still alive and well on the other threads then, that's a ridiculous comparison in the same way as the Nazi Germany one a few months back Shock.

Why would drinking Starbucks wipe out the potentially large deficit of high earners removing their taxes? Don't get it. People don't stop paying income tax and dividend tax because the place they buy their coffee from is not paying as much tax in some jurisdictions as it should.

I know it was supposed to be a joke but there is no logic in it so it doesn't work.

SemiPermanent · 17/01/2017 18:06

Infinite ❤️ your chihuahua ❤️❤️

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 18:20

Yes sunset I should have considered the high earners before I voted Leave what was I thinking

InfiniteSheldon · 17/01/2017 18:23

semi he's a bit cute isn't he Smile

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 17/01/2017 18:34

Super cutie, adorable Smile Really adorable.

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 17/01/2017 18:36

Umm interesting SA comparison, the only way I can see that is in the degeneration of useless, lazy and unfit to work - native Brits, and the applauding of the fabulous workers from Poland?
